Adolescence

I tried to think about it the other night,

how she faded away.

slowly

but it was never like that.

I was just trying to hold on to what was left of her.

"hold on" is in fact quite kind

I wouldn't. let. go.

no, she did not fade

it wasn't slow

I didn't wake up one day to find her gone,

I let her go

I killed her

I laid her to rest.

I'd like to say it was a choice,

and in a way, it was a conscious decision

but I never really had a choice.

I had to let her go.
