one thing i will say for people coming into the franchise now is that if you're the kind of person who likes to pick apart horror movies that aren't arthouse/A24 type shit you not gonna enjoy yourself ... i remember when curse of chucky came out direct to dvd, i watched it at my friend's bday party, and one of the guys there just scrutinized every plot contrivance and ""illogical"" gore effect. completely took everyone out of it. issa movie about a wisecracking murderous possessed doll played by the guy from one flew over the cuckoos nest you need to understand this going in 💀
POV: The year is 2021. You’re a guy who stopped watching the Chucky films since they got all annoying with Seed. They made it too campy, you think. What they really need to do is bring back the real Chucky. Enough of all this gay shit, you declare! Chucky would never respect trans people! Later, you see a show as you’re flipping through the channels – they made a whole series out of this? Maybe it’s gotten better. Maybe Glenda is no longer canon.
Everyone seems to be talking about how they want Chucky to adopt Jake since his dad is abusive to him because he’s gay and that Chucky is accepting of Glen/Glenda being trans… like… Did y’all not watch the series?
Chucky uses manipulation tactics on kids in order to take possession of their bodies. He discovered that it’s a lot easier to do so if the target is willing and/or thinks that you’re their friend.
Andy Barclay :
Chucky whispered things in 6 year old Andy’s ear and had the kid take him all the way to the man who taught him voodoo so that he could kill the guy with Andy none-the-wiser.
Then came the little game of “Hide the Soul” ->
Chucky, of course, continued to plague Andy’s childhood all the way up to the current timeline.
Ronald Tyler :
Though Chucky comes across 8 year old Ronald by accident while trying to be mailed to Andy, he quickly poses as the boy’s new friend and, when Andy begins to interfere with his plans, he tells the boy that Andy is just jealous that he’s now hanging out with him.
And, once more, came the game of “Hide the Soul” ->
Alice Pierce :
Chucky comes across 8 year old Alice when he’s seeking revenge on the girl’s grandmother for alerting the police to his whereabouts back before the start of Child’s Play first movie which inadvertently lead to the entire series being born. He quickly befriends the girl and later convinces her that her Aunt Nica Pierce is the one who killed off her entire family.
After tracking her down at the end of the events that happen in Curse of Chucky, they play a little game known as “Hide the Soul” ->
Which actually is stated to be the first success Chucky’s had in possessing a child though in Cult of Chucky he says he had to kill her due to the fact that a little girl’s body doesn’t have strength enough to take on and kill an adult proving her no longer useful to him.
Jake Wheeler :
Chucky comes across 14 year old Jake when the boy purchases him from a yard sale. He quickly discovers that Jake is gay which leads the kid to be abused by his father and bullied by the children at school so Chucky’s plans quickly form - What better way is there to convince someone you’re their friend then to be on their side while everyone else turns their back? He can even relate “I have a queer kid too… I’m not a monster, Jake”…
Right?
Yeah no I don’t buy it.
Caroline Cross :
Chucky finds his way to Lexy’s Halloween party where he somehow meets and befriends Lexy’s little sister Caroline. During their short interaction, he tells the girl “You got potential. I always say killings good, clean fun for the whole family.” and seems to push the idea of killing her sister onto her which Caroline surprisingly doesn’t react negatively towards.
I can see Caroline being a good Plan B for Chucky in case his plans of taking over Jake’s body doesn’t work out.
