please forgive me i’ve been thinking about faerghus recently and it makes me cry

i know a very simple reason as to why faerghus gets as much crap as it does and it’s because of the aesthetics. everyone loves summer and spring and call but come winter it’s nothing but dread.

faerghus’s aesthetics being wholly that of a cold world that can’t catch a break is detrimental to it’s image because it’s not as inherently inviting as adrestia summer or leicester spring.

the rain too and that type of image only lets people further say “see! isn’t this place so miserable?”

the short blooms of spring, the fleeting warmth of summer, the rush of rains in the fall, and the long and difficult winters. there’s something to be appreciated about how short the warm season lasts but even in winter, there is warmth next to the fire and beside the family and friends who huddle together for warmth. flowers are hard to come by but when they’re plucked and made into crowns, those crowns are worn until they can’t be anymore. then when the last ones of the season are pressed between the pages of book, in the fall you can look back and remember those short and sweet times. the time for planting comes and it’s always a tense time. the lands are surveyed and the people hope and pray there is enough for everyone to make it to the next spring. the first rain after is cause for joy despite the tension that still rests in the air. that tension exists but so to do the king, his lords and their kindness. there can be no king or lord if there are no people so he bids them to do their best and he will handle the rest. when the time for harvest comes and the crops are all accounted for, it’s time for the people to hunt together. it’s a lively group activity that results in the liveliest villages and taverns after. some is spared for then but the rest is divided into dry meats and those frozen by the mages from the school of sorcery. it’s a mad dash to make the warmest pelts of the boars and bears and to gather enough wood to last in case the winter hits harsher than expected. the night of first snow is a quiet time where everyone steels themselves for the hardships they must face. they have hope because they have each other and they know, this is their biggest worry. once they make it through this, they can enjoy that ever distant warmth made even warmer by the people around them.

i romanticize a bit but really, faerghus and winter aesthetics in general deserve more in my humble opinion.

While proceeding to explain that he rehashes his name with every subsequent conversation you have, or everytime you click his character, and does not use contractions in his speech even when speaking informally with his comrades. It’s funny when people bring up how Dedue was treated badly by the plot only talk about how his relationship with Dimitri is ‘glorifying the White Savior trope’, and says anyone who supports the Dimidue ship is excusing it.

When the bigger disservice to Dedue was deciding to make him optional and have no impact on his one route, trying to kill him off just to make room for Byleth to be Dimitri’s new cherished one, and replace him with Annette’s shitty father who ends up less relevant than an NPC and for some reason is the one who gets to be a part of the revelation of the Tragedy of Duscur- instead of the actual character from Duscur.

Fix your priorities. There are bigger issues with the game’s writing and how it handles its characters than this performative wokeness in regards to an incredibly intimate interracial ship.
