the black dog is such classic taylor songwriting - starting with a small detail/memory (seeing her ex visit a bar) and then it spirals into a wider recollection of the relationship. the flip from 'magic fabric of our dreaming' to 'tragic fabric of our dreaming' because those dreams are now ruined. the disconnect between being so far apart that she's stalking his location, to once showering together while she was shaking. the switch in the last chorus to him being a black dog, leaving with his tail between his legs. i am simply OBSESSED

It's kinda funny how the fact that their personalities were irreconcilably different was basically what the initial statement post break-up said, but then everyone just blew it way out of proportion 😔

so many people were waiting for all the tea with the album but instead it's like it's stripped back all the extra noise and speculation that built up in the past year and pretty much gone back to the core of it that we got from the start which was two people not working anymore. and it's not really impossible to believe — taylor has undergone a massive transformation in herself and her life and career from 2016 to 2023, so of course part of that is going to mean that her priorities and feelings and what she wants/needs from a relationship is going to change too. obviously there's layers and multiple things that lead to the end of a long term relationship but even with the album there's no impression that the initial press was covering up some huge crushing secret.

I will defend joe from swifties forever but people are saying that taylor outed joe’s mental health struggles in this album as if “my hearts been borrowed and yours has been blue” and “ill be there when your ocean waves cascade blues come” haven’t existed publicly for years now. and nothing taylor has ever said will be more revealing than what joe said himself when promoting conversations with friends. “you sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days” quite literally reveals nothing other than the fact that his mental health struggles are a thing that affected their relationship. I think that’s incredibly inoffensive. it’s hard to be a rational taylor fan because both her lovers and haters are equally stupid.

the last sentence lmao so true! I agree, I don't think any particular boundary has been crossed by just alluding to mental health struggles — the issue only comes when fans take it as an invitation to start projecting entire diagnoses and discussing it as though it's their own personal business, but obviously taylor can't be responsible for every weird fan response. I think there's a massive difference between "this was an obstacle in our relationship and it was very hard for me and we weren't able to overcome it" and "your stupid depression ruined everything and you should've just overcome it" and the album gives us the former, even if some fans decide on the latter.

I'm pretty sure I'm stealing this from someone's post or tags but "we learned the right steps to different dances" is such a beautiful and sad way to say no one person truly did anything wrong, it was just a square peg and a round hole situation 😔 same with "he was a hothouse flower to my outdoorsman" (have you seen the post going around about that one in particular bc that OP really cooked)

In the end, no one person truly did one thing wrong. It was just a square peg and a round hole situation. It's the most heartbreaking, bc it indicates there was nothing either could've done to save it. It never would've worked and it wasn't meant to be, even if it felt like it was at the beginning

putting these two asks together because you're both clearly on the same wavelength! i don't think I've seen the original post but it's so true and it makes it so sad when there's never going to be a permanent fix and all that can be done is to accept it and let it go ❤️‍🩹
