Jamie laughed as he looked at himself covered in dirt and straw. “Where have yer been? Jenny hasn’a seen Yer with I ken. Come inside she’ll get yer a drink and something ter eat.” He shovelled the last thing of hay. He grinned, “let me feed the horses first.”
Old friends
Jamie was bent over shoving the pitchfork into the mound of hay. He had a wheelbarrow beside him, he was feeding the horses when he heard someone walking past. He straightened up and leant on the pitchfork smiling. “I haven’a seen yer verra much around here!” He said waving to Siobhan. “How have yer been?”

Jamie was with the men of Leoch cattle raiding. He was alone as he looked for them, they had scattered to regroup later, he ended up at the stones at Craig Na Dune. He left the horse tied to a tree as he sat beside the stones taking a deep breath and savouring the momentary quiet.

My father, however absentee he was had always kept my dear mother in line, somewhat. It was unfortunate, his passing. The course of events had lingered in my mind. Her unfathomable loathing for me being at the forefront of my mind as the cool night breeze swept past me.
It felt pleasant along the exposed skin of my forearms that were littered with bruises and scratches. I hadn’t bothered to survey the rest of the damage, though the manner in which my body had protested as the movement it had taken to hoist myself up here in the first place served as enough of an inclination. It was almost amusing as I stood along the man made stone bannister, I’d never had the steadiest balance, but at this moment, God or the universe or some force had led me to perfect stillness.
My stepfather had certainly played on my mother’s already-present disdain for me, it was as good entertainment as any. He preferred to watch whilst she beat me, though he always took her place when he felt she would mar me irrevocably, what use would I be then? I’d made up my mind upon hearing of my arrangement.
I could feel the spaces between the stones against my feet from beneath the soles of my shoes, I could imagine that feeling disappearing when I would step off and the breeze would overtake me before the water would eventually take dominion. The wind was steady, almost urging me along, the navy of my skirts moving forward with it.

“I dinna ken where else ter go but I can cope in the woods if I have ter, and I am a hard worker I am willing ter trade my labour fer shelter and food.” He said earnestly, “I used to have a farm I am not afraid of it” Jamie was sure he could do it.

Jamie had travelled to the New World after escaping Fort William and Jack Randall. He had found a farm to initially work on until he built enough money to buy his own land. It was one such morning he went out to check on the crops and livestock when a sudden compulsion seized him. There were a group of standing stones in a clearing he’d never seen before. The stones hummed with the echoes of battles and history. Before he could stop himself, his hand was on the centre stone, he felt a jerk and then blackness consumed him.
He awoke in the middle of the circle of stones. It sounded different as he staggered to his feet and started walking down the hill. Jamie stopped when he saw the hard black surface cutting through the valley. He’d never seen such a thing before and cautiously stood on it. When nothing happened, he walked to the centre to look around. The area was fenced, vast tracks of land contained with a strange type of fencing. He jumped when he heard the sudden noise of a car but didn’t know what it was.

“Aye, I’ll be alright” he said softly. “I just have never been inside…a car as you call it…I am still looking fer the horses” he smiled at her nervously and after watching her put on her seatbelt, he put his on staring at the controls. “I trust Yer and I promise ter not be more trouble than I have ter be”

He looked at the car and back to her but nodded slowly. “Thank yer mistress” he said quietly bowing his head. “Yer have been verra generous.” He walked up to the car but stared at it baffled on how to get in and how it worked. He cautiously opened the door like he would a carriage and when the door opened, he nervously sat inside but after that, he was lost. The inside looked nothing like anything he’d ever seen.

“I dinna ken could yer possibly point me in the direction of settlement…I will find shelter and food once I am in civilisation again.” He said stepping back to help relax her. “I am happy ter walk I just need ter ken where the civilisation is.” He was trying to stay calm but his panic was rising in his throat.

Jamie laughed hollowly. “I know how this likely ter sound” he said watching the woman. “But this morning fer me was 1743 I dinna ken now where I am or how I got here.” He knew she wasn’t going to believe him but there wasn’t much he could about that. “I dinna ken how ter get back and I would appreciate some help,”

Jamie stared at her more confused than ever. “James Fraser” he said slowly walking closer but he stopped before he got too close to the car. “Aye I’ve never seen a…car as you call it and I’ve never seen road that looks like this” he didn’t understand what was going on around him. Jamie stared at her strange clothing and something told him, mad that it was, he went in his own time. He didn’t know how this had happened but it clearly had.

Jamie looked at her and the car. “Road?” He said confused, his accent thick Scottish brogue. “What…I dinna ken where I am or what that is!” He pointe to the Mercedes. He felt as if he just have lost his mind to be surrounded by so much strangeness. “Who are you?” He asked trying to find something familiar.

Both men gave her a kiss smiling at her. “Look what you achieved my darling” John said softly. “Two beautiful children”

Jamie had been at Ardsmuir Prison. When it had been closed as a prison, he was indentured out to the Dunsany family. Jamie kept his head down and simply did his job, he missed his wife certain he would never see her again or his unborn child. The family were kind and courteous to him but he didn’t want to get involved after everything that happened to him at the hands of the English.

Both men got dressed and fetched a robe for Christine to wear. “We can go slowly” John whispered to her.
