Please read this. I am very sympathetic to the author's experiences, that's a lot of shit to go through, but it's not the reason I want you to read it. Pressure to update is what makes authors quit. Please don't be demanding and don't put authors under pressure. Fanfiction is free, authors do this for love, so I say, yet again, for the cheap seats at the back, have patience, be thankful this stuff is out there, free and easy to access (it wasn't always so and you might appreciate it more if you'd been around at the beginning), support your faves and fanfam with the undemanding understanding that you don't know everyone's circumstances and you are not entitled to an explanation. My heart twisted when I saw the tags.

"Please still love me by the time I come back". WTF? All I want to do right now is give OP a big hug. I want to tell them it'll be fine, that followers will still be there. However, this is the kind of situation where you find out who your real friends and followers are. Those who care, the real fans, yes, they'll still be there.

I know you love this stuff, and I know how frustrating it is when a story never sees its end (Chameleon by Velvet Mace, for example), but that's life. We have to accept it as part of fandom. Please, be your kindest, be your best, let's appreciate our writers and creators. Let's be there for Boojangs and all the other creators who need us.

I need to vent for a second, since people keep asking me for updates. And yes, this is a personal vent.

My life is a mess, as I've said in several of my author's notes on all of my stories. And while I owe absolutely no explanations to anyone or anything for any reason, *maybe* this will put things in perspective for some of you impatient folk.

My grandfather is battling stage four cancer and it's spread in his lungs. I don't have a lot of time left with him, and I'm watching this news destroy my mom and grandmother. I want to see him as often as I can, which is not leaving me with a lot of writing time.

I have to get another biopsy because the benign tumor in my head has grown. My neurologist is worried at how quickly it has amassed, and wants to make sure it hasn't become malignant. You know, that same brain that houses my wenclairs? She could be very ill.

I tore every fucking ligament in my left knee a few months ago, that had to be surgically repaired, and PT for it has left me in immeasurable pain. Another time and energy consumer, keeping me away from my writing. I can't walk without a crutch.

My uncle recently passed away without any warning, and my cousin was just killed in a car accident less than two weeks ago. I've watched both of those losses hurt my father, as they're his side of the family.

And because of all of this, my depression has made a VIOLENT EMERGENCE. It's crippling. If not for my girlfriend and my friends, I wouldn't be here anymore. I am so tired but I cannot sleep. Every new drama takes another piece of me with it. I cry all the time. I try so hard to be strong but man, I'm only a person.

I want to write wenclair. I want it. I think about them all the time. TDWW is 99% finished but I cannot focus enough to write the final scene. I want to have YMU ready for next week. TFT and Pandora will be in there somewhere. I need them, they're my strength. I feel as broken as Wednesday.

I'm human, not a content factory. So many of you have sent such lovely words and support to me, and I'm thankful for all of you. The kindness is so amazing, and I'm so thankful. And I know I shouldn't let the voices of the few overpower the good of the many. But I'm not perfect and all of this has left me incredibly vulnerable, so the slightest negativity has been heavily impacting me.

I'll update as soon as I am able, please just have a little bit of patience. 🩷🖤

It's a creative expression, a therapy, an outlet. It is GOOD ART. You marching in with your pedantic dislikes and broadcasting them like it was all about you is not acceptable. Do not harass fan creators or fans for shipping something you disapprove.

About Nixxie - My Wheelchair is my lifeline. I use it inside my flat to get about as my body sadly doesn't work anymore (please read the Just giving page for details on my disabilities). I also use the chair to get out into my garden... and also anytime I need to leave the house - it gets a lot of mileage - hence why it is sadly starting to show its age! About 3 years ago the welding that holds on the arm failed and cannot be repaired - so the arm bracket is held on with gaffer tape and hot-glue. The batteries hardly hold any charge anymore, one of the wheel-arches got plastic fatigue a few years ago and just plain twisted off! Also all the under panels are held on with velcro, tape and hope! (pictures of all this on the donation page).

I originally bought my powerchair in 2012 to go to London as I'd won tickets to visit the Paralympics with a carer... however I don't trust it now to even go a few miles as I'm petrified another bit will fall off!! A while after I bought my chair I went to a Sci-Fi convention and dressed my wheelchair up as the Tardis to match my costume... I liked it so much that my chair has been Tardis cosplaying ever since!

I try my hardest to still live a life worth living - and even though my body needs to recover for ages afterwards I still try to get out every now and then to do something good.

So that's about it - my diagnosis is that I will never get any better (In fact it's likely I'll carry on getting worse as I get older), so I thought to put this page up to get help in the fundraising as wheelchairs cost a huge amount more than people think and sadly there is no way I can afford it alone. So please if you could, donate - Even if it's only a bit - anything towards being able to go out safely would be SO Amazing and I am utterly thankful to you for your aid.

They say you die three times, first when the body dies, second, when your body enters the grave, and third, when your name is spoken for the last time. You were a normal person in life, but hundreds of years later, you still haven’t had your “third” death. You decide to find out why.

This is why we in the UK absolutely cannot allow them to underfund and destroy the NHS or THIS is what you'll be looking at.

I feel like I should make a post about this because it’s not something that’s very well-known, and that Americans in particular may need to know about given the uncertain state of our healthcare system at the moment. I’ve wanted to write this out for a while, It’s kind of a long post, so sorry about that!

If you have an emergency and have to go to the hospital, you’ll owe the hospital a lot of money. (I got into a car wreck and broke my ankle and my arm. My hospital bill was around $20,000)

You’ll also owe the ambulance provider, if you need one. (My ambulance bill was about $800)

You may get separate bills from the anesthesiologist or surgeon. (My anesthesiologist bill was $1,700)

You may need follow-up appointments. (My orthopedic surgeon billed me for the appointments and his surgery together and it was about $1,000)

You’ve also got to pay for medical equipment you need afterward, like crutches or a walking boot. (Mine cost about $75)

Altogether, I ended up with almost $24,000 in medical debt from one car accident. That’s a really scary number for someone like me who makes $10/hr at a 12 hour a week job.

I got my debt down to $1075 by making some phone calls and submitting some paperwork.

The first thing I did was contact the hospital. They don’t make it easy to find, but many hospitals (perhaps most hospitals?) have financial assistance programs for people who can’t afford medical bills. I don’t make a lot of money, and I have bills to pay, so they were able to help me. I called the billing department and asked if they had any assistance programs for low income people who can’t pay their bills. I had to call multiple times, and I got transferred in circles by people who didn’t know what I was talking about. Finally, I got an appointment with someone in “Eligibility Services” (I don’t know what other hospitals call it, if it’s something different). I had to bring my pay stubs and copies of all of my bills. When I got to the hospital for the appointment, nobody knew what I was talking about so I had to wander a little to find where I needed to go. I spoke with the guy in Eligibility Services, and I waited for a decision on how much of the bill they would forgive. A month later, I got a call telling me it was totally forgiven.

I did the same thing for my ambulance bill and my anesthesiologist, but the process was a LOT easier. I just had to mail some paperwork and it was totally forgiven.

I didn’t bother with the medical equipment suppliers, since the bills came from separate companies and I didn’t feel like going through the process twice for $75. I was assured at the hospital that they had similar programs for debt forgiveness, so I could have probably avoided paying that too.

The only thing I couldn’t get taken care of was the surgeon/follow-up appointment cost, but they were able to put me on a no-interest payment plan.

Medical debt is scary because it’s something that can come from stuff that’s already really scary. I didn’t need the burden of $24,000 in debt on top of trying to get around on a crutch with a broken arm (it’s not easy, believe me!).. but I can’t imagine what it would be like with a bigger debt or a more severe medical emergency. I see lots of people in even worse trouble than I was in, both financially and medically. Please know that there are options for you when that GoFundMe doesn’t do enough. Even if your income is higher than mine, it’s worth a shot even for partial debt forgiveness.

We need to learn to see how damaging some of this stuff is. Question the motives behind such things. This is, imho, why we distrust those who claim authority and expertise now. Because we've had enough theories and expertise rammed down our throats and later debunked and discredited because of misogyny, racism, homophobia and many other personal agendas. We second guess training and knowledge because we distrust the motives behind the actions. Indeed, I think we shouldn't just blindly accept what we are told, but at the same time, accept that those with training and experience that outweighs our own are still best placed to answer our questions.

Research is your friend but you must learn how to do it properly. Cross-checking your facts, finding independent sources, it can all feel simpler to just trust what you're fed sometimes. Just don't complain about the outcome if you're happy to believe everything. If you want to find out how to research properly, then learn how. There are plenty of sites to help you.

Universities have free resources.

And you can access lots of info through Google Scholar.

As someone who also appreciates weird small things and organizing them, I thought you might be amused by HORG, the Holotypic Occlupanid Research Group, who for quite some time have been using citizen-assisted science to identify and classify things like bread clips and twisty strips and the like, and teach about taxonomy in a fun way. They are very straight-faced about it and extremely entertaining. I emailed them once about a neat bread clip and asked if the extra sticker stuck to it was a parasite, a symbiont, rare plumage, a tracking method (like banding birds on the leg) or some unusual adaptation. They said they'd never seen one quite like it before. They are very pretend-serious about it and it is actually a really cool and accessible way to teach, and they actively solicit information and images, and you can mail in your specimens as well. Thought you might enjoy it! I started a small bread clip collection because of it.

Things I’ve learned about love from working for a divorce attorney

Divorce happens to everyone, there's not a "type." Even smart, well-adjusted people choose bad partners, encounter deal-breakers after you're already married, or simply change over time to where you're no longer compatible.

You can come into your own at any time, and learn to finally stick up for yourself at any age.

There’s no time window for divorce where if you stick together long enough you’ve "made it." Some people get divorced after a year and a half, others after 25 or more. Love will always take work.

People often come in ready to sacrifice everything just to get the process over with, then realize they're entitled to way more than they thought. Don't undervalue your worth just to make things easier. You're entitled to fairness.

I don't care how much you say money doesn't matter in your relationship, yes it does. Keeping your finances separate solves a LOT of conflict. Money is the #1 thing people fight over in the divorce process besides maybe the kids.

Speaking of kids, out of mountains of cases, not once has any parent even suggested the divorce was the kid’s fault.

Life really does go on after a breakup, even a major one. Everyone that comes into our office is a full and complete person just going through a rough time. I think that's important to remember.

There is some pretty shocking footage out there of the Baltimore bridge collapse early this morning. I've already seen some incredibly wrong, incredibly insensitive Hot Takes about how shitty the bridge was to have fallen after being bonked by a boat, etc

The facts will come out. Speculation is silly. In addition to loss of life, the Francis Scott Key bridge was a major arterial in that region's highway system. Its loss will be felt for years, and not just to daily commuters.

Baltimore harbor is closed. No shipping at all. This will impact supply chains in ways we cannot even assess yet.

It's pretty fucked up.
