i'm so glad goncharov happened when it did, right before prolific public use of AI. that was pure honest gaslighting straight from the heart. real human whimsicality and trickery thru blood sweat and tears. we were a family. and we all gonched, together. you cant replicate that with any machine.

let me tell you driving from Ohio to Washington in a SmartCar with everything I owned was funny enough on its own but once I got west of the Rockies, every. single. time. I stopped ar a gas station, random dads would just spawn beside my car. like there was some sort of dad portal following me. and they’d see my ohio plates and go, “did you DRIVE through the mountains in that?” and every. single. time. I’d go, “well, they didn’t airlift me!”
it killed. it absolutely cleared ever time. never failed to make the dads laugh. they were obsessed. i said it the same every time. it was like I was in a groundhog day timeloop on interstate 70 westbound gas stations. and you know what? I was happy.

Making absolutely no comment as to the plot or story, I will say that the technical writing of the second book in The Expanse is miles above the first book. The writing quality is so much improved that when I got to the second book I actually made a post saying "Wow, the writing is so much better in this book than the first one".
So if you liked the first one, you'll probably like the second one even more.
So about a month ago I read the divide by JS Dewes and then with only one book between them - I read Leviathan wakes by James a Corey now I didn’t mean to but I read them so close together that they kind of melted into one book in my mind that I had to sit down and differentiate them on paper before I read the exiled fleet (second in the divide series) I know there’s a huge expanse fandom but like is the second expanse book good? The blurb makes it sound real fucking boring and dry even though I did enjoy the first one…

...dangit she still doesn't look right to me.
What is it about this game that no matter how perfect you think they look in the creation screen, it's never the same in live play?
I thought I was past this point - I really did - but I just restarted the game when I was already on Eden Prime because I didn't like how my Shepard looked in the game.

For me it wasn't a single encounter, but an ongoing headbutt with one client for much of the season. He kept demanding something that was against company policy and was actually illegal, and we kept refusing to do it (Because, again, it was illegal). Every time we would show up and do our job properly he would call the office to complain and say he had requested XYZ, and I would explain that we weren't going to do that and that I had said we weren't going to do that. This went on for a month or so until one last time where he got abusive over the phone, and we told him we were halting our services effective immediately. We'd refund his money, go away.
We followed that up with a written statement to his boss and also the regulatory authority that covered his area to say that he was now out of compliance since he didn't have anybody doing this legally mandated work.
We got a call from his boss in minutes, apologizing profusely, begging us to continue working with them and assuring us that we wouldn't have to deal with that guy ever again.
I took great pleasure in continuing to perform their services in perfect compliance for the rest of the summer.
it’s sooo funny when rude customers encounter employees who can deny them service for the first time.
i was working at a little cafe where I could deny service over bad behavior, harassment etc. & mask mandates had just ended a week before & already people were being weird about me still wearing mine—an N95, the kind shaped kinda like a duckbill.
so this man walked in, looked at me sooo scathingly, laughed at me, and said “damn. never known a woman to choose…practicality over looks.”
And I just said, “oh. you can go, you’re not getting a drink.” And he said, “what???”
I said, “sir, you just walked in at 6 am & called women impractical and me ugly in one sentence.”
And he was so astonished he didn’t even argue he just turned around and left 💀🙏🏻 it was like he suddenly became self aware
