I don’t happen to like the work-arounds, myself, but a explanation I did appreciate was that by working so hard to find a way around the law you’re keeping the law and it’s exact contours front and center in your mind. And so, you’re keeping G-d’s commands front and center in your mind. And that’s the point. To be ever mindful of What G-d wants from us.

I look to do that in other ways that are more meaningful to me. But I can appreciate how that works for others without it being “cheating.”

On Twitter there are currently a lot of Christians and Muslims getting really angry about ways that Jews work around restrictions on work during Shabbat, and, like, honestly I do not understand why they care? Just a lot of non-Jews telling nice Orthodox Jews that they’re doing their religion wrong for no reason.

10/7 was Israel's 9/11. And like Al Qaeda, Hamas must be destroyed. But not everything the US did after 9/11 was justified or actually made America more secure. The same is true with Netanyahu's war strategy.

Hamas must be destroyed, and sure the world should be demanding their surrender or capture, but how many innocent Gazan children is it okay to kill to accomplish that?

Didn't Abraham argue with G-d over this very point regarding the destruction of Sodom? "Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?"

If there were an easy answer to the Israeli/Palestinian problem, it've been solved by now. Of COURSE we have to make Israel safe, rescue the hostages, and destroy Hamas. But that doesn't mean ANYTHING goes.
