“Lucien would enact the Blood Duel over claim to Elain.”
Lucien Vanserra?
Lucien, who was willing to undergo torture to keep Feyres name?
Lucien, the only one to give Feyre a way to get true answers?
Lucien, who came to check in on Feyre UTM?
Lucien, who saved Feyres life in the first trial and was whipped debilitatingly for it?
Lucien, who still found a way to make it to Feyre after he was whipped?
Lucien, who gave Feyre a means to protect herself?
Lucien, who took the brunt of Tams abuse advocating for Feyre?
Lucien, who ventured into the Nigh Court tracking Feyre basically on his own to attempt to save her from a HIGH LORD who he thought was mind controlling her?
Lucien, who suffered in silence from Ianthes stalking and harassment?
Lucien, who endangered himself to get to Elain to cover her up when she came out of the cauldron when no one else could?
Lucien, who held Feyre because she was having a nightmare?
Lucien, who performed the Rite out of duty even when it meant forcing him to have sex with the woman who actively stalked and harassed him and would later go on to try to rape him?
Lucien, who was Feyres closest ally in the Spring Court even as she was destroying to only place he could call home?
Lucien, who told Feyre to run while he was about to be raped so she would be safe?
Lucien, who protected Feyre when they went on the run?
Lucien, who went to the Night Court to ensure his mate was safe, not caring about his own safety, not knowing if he would die?
Lucien, who found out what was wrong with Elain, and even through his concern and mate instinct, respected Elains boundaries and the inner circles wishes?
Lucien, who cooperated from the moment he stepped into the Night Court to help give them information to save Prythian?
Lucien, who was the only person to listen to Elains visions, and endangered himself to travel to the continent?
Lucien, who helped bring a fucking army to Prythian to save them and help destroy Hybern?
Lucien, who slaughter his way across a battle field just to make sure Elain was ok?
Added Bonus: Lucien, the ONLY PERSON to tell Amarantha off and lost his eye for it?
I can keep going but I hope you get the point that under no fucking instance does Lucien enacting a blood duel fit his character. He is the most selfless character is this series and how anyone could call him a fucking coward is beyond me. Maybe try reading with nuance and understanding the character yall speak ill of on behalf of Azriel who hasn’t even done half as much. And stop acting like Elain needs saving from him when he’s been nothing but respectful to her and the most respectful mate we’ve seen. Get it together.

Rowan punched Aelin.
Rhysand twisted Feyres broken arm to force her into a bargain.
Cassian repeatedly overstepped boundaries of Nestas.
And y’all have the nerve and audacity to complain about Lucien? Get serious.

fourth wing was pretty fun for me! i was mostly in it for the dragons and there was a tad too much smut for me, but that’s personal preference. i’ve only read the first one and while there are a few plot holey things i have questions about, i can chalk it up to just really vast worldbuilding that RY might not have gotten to cover it all since it is only the first book. i tried not reading too deeply into it though lol, like chick flick/romcom kind of entertainment :)
I started reading it anon!
It is very entertaining, I will tell you that lol. It's a mix between Harry Potter and Divergent for me and I love it !!
+ the writing is not my favorite, but it's not that bad.

Sarah J. Maas is much more comfortable and better at writing multiple pov's books
I wrote this TWO years ago and never posted, but I think it's still valid, so I uptaded a bit. Welcome to my TED talk: if you love or hate Rhys, this is for you!
I was inspired to write this due some discussions I have seen here lately surrounding Rhys and the pregnancy plot in acosf, so I'm gonna throw my two cents here. Honestly, I don't think I have a very formed opinion on this. I don't agree with what Rhys did and I think it was wrong, but I do think it was on his character to do so. When I was reading acosf, I remember thinking how it was such a Rhys thing to try to come up with a solution to the problem before saying it to Feyre, especially considering that it was a life/death situation. NOW, that's not really a good thing, cause Feysand's whole thing is how they treat each other as equals and Rhys's attitude kinda of went agaisnt that.
Of course, there was the whole "let's not stress the pregnant person out, cause that won't do any good to anyone", which, let's be honest, it's true. But, still, I remember thinking how ewww it was that literally EVERYONE knew about that (hell, I think even Helion knew, right?) except for Feyre. And, yk, it's her LIFE, so she should know (obvs).
NOW, here's what I really wanted to talk about. I think one of our biggest issues surrounding this is the lack of reaction from Feyre. I think it's said in the narrative that she and Rhys had a huge argument about it, but that in the end it was cool. And that's really bad. For us, the readers, it was like "some really serious stuff" BOOM "unicorns and rainbows", we didn't get to see any of that
And the thing about this (and correct me if I'm wrong, cause it could be fake news lol) it was stated that they cut out a lot of scenes that sjm wanted to include, I suppose as bonus chapters, and those scenes were especially Feysand scenes. But her editor thought it was better to cut them out, because that would have diverged the attention from Nesta and Cassian (which, sort of did for some people anyway, but whatever).
And I think this is such a big mess and it's some bad writing in a way. I don't think sjm is a bad writer, quite the contrary, I enjoy her writing very much. But the issue with ACOTAR is that we had three books solely with Feyre's pov, so everything we know about all the characters were because of her and we sort of only had her character growth (if you get what I mean). And, now, we're having this trasition with each new book with two new pov's, and it seems that it's not really covering everything that it should cover to tell the story. ACOSF held a attention on Feysand that I understand why they did it, but if they're going to put a lot of weight into them to that specific story, they should've added more scenes with their pov's.
And, for me, everything comes down to sjm being a lot more comfortable in writing stories with multiple pov's. She did that with ToG and CC. To make a personal comparison with her latest books, hosab had a much better structure than acosf and I think the plot flew a lot better. I can't say the same for hofas, but I think the problem there was the unequal weight of the povs (Tharion and Ithan compared to the rest lol). But in ToG is done beautifully! Of course, sometimes we don't care about certain povs, but that's normal.
Anyway, really excited for some acotar 5 news and tbh, looking foward as to how we can slander Rhys again lol (I love him, ok)

I remember seeing some people saying that the second book is not that good (like, really bad writing), so I don't know...
Is it a good light reading?

I think this is the scene where I decided I didn’t want Elain and Azriel to be endgame. We’ve just experienced this super intense and dangerous rescue in which Azriel (and Feyre) saves Elain from the Hybern war camp. Azriel’s wings are shredded, he’s leaking blood everywhere, swaying on his feet, and all Elain does is kiss him on the cheek and walk away. No outward display of distress over his horrific injuries, no panicking, no words exchanged. I know people will say it’s because she doesn’t know him well yet but think of the interactions between Nesta and Cassian at this point. The instinct that takes over when a mate is injured is everything, and Elain and Azriel will never have that. And that fact was really noticeable to me in this scene.

Azriel desperately wants his mate. Elain deeply resents her mating bond.
Azriel's work requires him to kill. Elain's gardening brings new life.
Azriel carries out torture. Elain abhors violence.
Azriel lives in shadows. Elain thrives in light.
Neither of them can give any of these up without changing a core part of their identity. They don't need to change. They shouldn't need to change for each other. Their paths are not the same -- not their past, their present, or their future.
Contrast this to:
Azriel thinks he's unworthy of love and believes that his hands are sullied. Gwyn thinks she's unworthy because she failed Catrin and thus does not wear her Invoking Stone.
Azriel is a master strategist and incredibly competitive, as noted by Cassian. Gwyn was determined to be the first to finish the obstacle course, as noted by Nesta.
Azriel answered affirmatively to Gwyn's question of whether he sings. Gwyn has a beautiful voice and sang frequently throughout ACOSF.
Azriel witnessed Gwyn's greatest trauma of her sexual assault which was also the day her twin sister was killed. Gwyn witnessed Azriel's greatest insecurity of what he has to do as the NC's spymaster when he slaughtered all the Hybern soldiers.
Azriel was the first in his year alongside his chosen brothers to reach Ramiel's summit and become Carynthian. Gwyn was the first female in history alongside her chosen sister to reach Ramiel's summit and become Carynthian.
Or even:
Elain said herself that she needed sunshine. Lucien is the son of the High Lord of the Day Court.
Elain has been described as not fitting the Night Court. Lucien is part of the "Band of Exiles", believing he has nowhere to go.
Elain is described as sociable and (prior to her transformation at least) enjoys making friends and attending parties. Lucien was an emissary twice and literally has connections to everyone and everywhere.
Elain is a Seer who sees things no one else can. Lucien's mechanical eye grants him a similar power.
Elain is the fawn. Lucien is the fox.
Or even:
Vassa is one of the mortal queens who has become intertwined with the Fae. Jurian is a former general of a human army who is also involved with the Fae.
Vassa is enslaved to the immortal Death-god Koschei. Jurian was enslaved to the immortal "High Queen" Amarantha.
Vassa's curse binds her to Koschei's lake. Jurian's soul was bound to Amarantha's ring.
Vassa is forced to undergo physical transformations between her avian and human form. Jurian was forced to undergo a physical transformation from an eyeball to a human.
Vassa was betrayed by the other Mortal Queens. Jurian was betrayed (in his eyes) by his lover Miryam.
The parallels between Gwynriel - Elucien - Jassa are really quite obvious. You can't tell me that all of these are unintentional. Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern...
"His name is Lucien" 🤝 "See you later, Shadowsinger" 🤝 "At each other's throats"

I love how Jude kissed Cardan the first time with the intention of humiliating him. this guy pushed her into a lake, kicked dirt in her food, did little to nothing when she was high on faerie fruit, and now he reveals it was cuz he has a crush on her and hates himself for it. And her knee-jerk response is to shame him by making out with him so he can feel how badly he wants her and how embarrassed he should be by it. It’s almost too girlboss to wrap my head around. And then she accidentally enjoys kissing him so whoopsie

Not to be a hater, but can I just say just how much more I loved Azriel in hofas than in ANY acotar book??
Like?? Boy was amazing there ✨
Every interaction he had with Nesta was so heartwarming and we could really see him being an amazing friend to her and just overall showcase of his personality
He was just much more likable, if I may say so (not that he wasn’t before)
And that just made really certain that his book (with him as the main character) is next and I’m actually really excited for it ✨

Forgetting about the ships for a moment, you know what I want in the next acotar books?
My man Koschei being a good villain and making everyone absolutely hysterical and miserable
GIVE ME A GOOD VILLAIN PLEASE
I think he has sooo much potential, this guy was first mentioned in ACOWAR with the fucking Bone Carver being scared of him, like 🤯
We know he keeps cursed women confined, that he has a black box that is very important to him, that he made a deal with Papa Archeron, that he still has influence across many territories even if he has been locked away for centuries (including the Night Court), that for some reason he turned Vassa into a firebird and that he pulled a big prank on Cassian and Azriel
I NEED HIM TO DO VILLAN THINGS AND SCARE EVERYONE !!
I know villains are not Sarah’s forte, but I have big hopes

If I see one more person saying that the cauldron was wrong I will loose it ⚰️
Like, HOW CAN THE CAULDRON BE WRONG ABOUT ELAIN AND LUCIEN AND NOT NESTA AND CASSIAN??
Make it make sense, because this is absolutely ridiculous and completely insane
It’s not that hard to understand
I accept people saying that she might reject the bond or whatever, but the cauldron being wrong???
Please girl 🤡

When Azriel and Rhys are discussing the Elain incident in the bonus chapter, Azriel could’ve easily said “I love her, Rhys. She consumes my every thought, I can’t live without her. We have a deep conection and I want to be with her”, and I guarantee you, Rhys would’ve fought for his brother. His brother’s happiness comes first, so to hell with Lucien and the Autumn Court.
But fine, ok, for argument’s sake let’s say he’s just attracted to her and this isn’t love yet (even after 3 books of whatever), he could’ve easily said to Rhys: “I think Elain is worth fighting for. I want her in my life”. But that’s not what happened. Instead, he just lashed out on Lucien and the Cauldron. He never said “but maybe Elain wants to be with me too, maybe she could be happy with me”. He said none of those things because this was never about Elain. It was about him and his entitlement and his desires and frustrations. He’s just desperate for love and for a mating bond.
Also for argument’s sake, let’s say Sarah is just setting up the “forbidden romance” you all love so much: then that whole bonus chapter could’ve ended right there and then. It could’ve ended with Azriel mad about being told to stay away from Elain. But Sarah placed Gwyn there. Why? She could’ve placed Elain there (to finish what they had started) or Nesta or Emery or Mor or Feyre there, but no, she placed Gwyn. And she did it to show us that there is an alternative for him; to show us that spark in his chest and who it’s really about. And to show us how he smiled at the thought of Gwyn: A thing of secret, lovely beauty.

I read the ACOTAR trilogy years ago and liked it, but I was never interested in reading any of the next books. I remember that Lucien and Elain were supposed to be mates but she didn't want to talk to him(?) and it was left unresolved at the end of ACOWAR. After that I only know bits and pieces I came across online, and I often saw people saying Elain should end up with Azriel instead. So I'm here to ask: what's going on, what happened since then? What is her relationship with both men at this point? Is there a love triangle? Who is she more likely gonna end up with? Can you please tell me the tea? 👀
Omg this is like a big question that requires a big answer, so bare with me ✨
First things first, I wanna start by saying that I’m completely biased at this point, since I want Elain and Lucien to be together. I will present the facts and how I see them. I did this post ages ago discussing every ship! There are more details
So, since the end of Wings and Ruin, Elain and Lucien’s relationship hasn’t really improved. She still avoids him whenever he’s around and, as far as we know, he only shows up in Velaris when he needs to report something to Rhys and Feyre (since he works for them as emissary) or on Winter’s Solstice. He always gets her a gift and she ignores him, as usual.
Now, as for Elain and Azriel, we know due to Azriel’s bonus chapter that they spent a little time together, usually in the garden, with Elain going over her garden plans and stuff.
Idk if you read his chapter or not, I guess you must have seen it around, but if you want to get more context to this, I recommend reading it even if didn’t read the book. You can still understand lots of it.
But basically what happened is this:
It’s after the Winter Solstice party and Azriel and Elain meet after everyone left to their own rooms. In the chapter, we get Azriel’s pov so we get to learn a bit more about his state of mind and how unwell he is (and has been for a while). When they meet, Azriel intercepts Elain as she’s going downstairs to put a gift in his gift pile, so she hands him his gift. He then also gives her a gift, that he didn’t give earlier as well, a rose shaped necklace
They have a bit of a moment, with Azriel thinking about how they always had slight touch of hands and shared glances (not really conversations), but nothing else happened beyond that. Azriel thinks about how he has the hots for her and also how bothered he is about Elain and Lucien’s mating bond
Then, they almost kiss, BUT they are interrupted by Rhys, when he has a mental conversation with Azriel, who then tells Elain this was a mistake and she apologizes, and as far as we know, they haven’t talk since
NOW, Rhys basically tells Az to stay away from Elain, because she has a mate and if he saw them kissing (Lucien was just upstairs) he would have, like, the right to be really pissed off and call on Azriel the blood duel (traditional of the Autumn Court) and then fight to the death for Elain. Like, Lucien would never do that, but anyway
Azriel tries to reason with Rhys by saying that Elain is not interested in Lucien and that maybe the cauldron was wrong and that they were not supposed to be mates, which leaves Rhys all “what the actual fuck????”. To which Azriel responds by saying that there are 3 sisters and 3 brothers, so how come were 2 sisters given to 2 of those brothers (Rhys and Cassian) but the third one wasn’t???? Rhys gets all 😡 and tell Azriel that he should go to a pleasure house and leave Elain alone, to not jeopardize their relationship with Lucien, cause he’s a really important ally for them, as he has ties with many courts + the human realm
Az gets really mad about the whole thing, we know he always wanted a mate, so this whole thing is a sensitive topic for him. He then meets Gwyn, a new character to the series, he trains her on combat with Cassian, and she was overall a really important character in ACOSF. They have a moment, filled with playful banter and even a couple of revelations (we learned from their conversation that Az sings) and when he leaves her he was much more cool minded
As the chapter goes, we learn that Elain returned the rose shaped necklace, putting it back in his gift pile, without even talking to him. He then gets the necklace and anonymously gives it to Gwyn, thinking about how her eyes will shine upon seeing it, calling it “a thing of secret, lovely beauty”
NOW, everyone is entitled to their opinions, and even if I don’t agree, I see why people would ship Elain and Azriel considering some other moments they had during the other books. I for one think that the bonus chapter was a way of Sarah to put an end to them. I think his interaction with Gwyn was much more interesting and had that sjm couple banter thing, that she always writes, and honestly it just seemed healthier (considering how Az’s pov goes)
But even if we forget about Gwyn for a moment, during Silver Flames there were a couple of moments when Az just pretty much dismissed Elain, when she wanted to do finally do something and help everyone. Saying how Elain should not be exposed to such darkness and all. Which could be cute, like, “awnn he wants to protect her”, but he did it behind her back and she was really just trying to help and do more. And that didn’t sit right with me
As for Elain and Lucien, I’m not gonna lie, it’s looking very good for them lol. But, I think they will overcome their issues, cause they don’t have anything against each other. They don’t even know each other. Their issue is not personal, And I think that eventually they will know each other and things will work out just fine
So, answering your question, Idk who’s gonna end up with who. I have my personal beliefs and some people have completely different ideas. Not really sure who to blame for this, maybe we should blame Sarah for being a little ambiguous or ourselves for being maybe a bit too emotional about it 🤡
But I’ll tell you this: acotar 5 is next, so we’re gonna find out soon enough ✨
