heyy do you have some recommendations of more serious/realistic romance thai BLs (or non thai also) like the ones you mentioned in your recent post? they are all my favourites and i'm also a bit disappointed in things that were announced :(. i pretty much only know gmmtv stuff but also not so much.
hello my lovely!!! yes i can absolutely give you some recs. these are what i can think of off the top of my head for each country:
Thai (as well as the ones I mentioned in the post)
never let me go
triage
manner of death
he’s coming to me
i told sunset about you
South Korea
the eighth sense
to my star (season 1+2)
blueming
Japan
my beautiful man
old fashion cupcake
love is better the second time around
China + Taiwan (aka the goat at classic drama)
history 3: trapped
we best love (season 1+2)
stay with me
unknown
these are pretty much the spectrum of what I’d call classic, romantic dramas, from ones that centre on themes of crime (manner of death, never let me go, history 3) to ones with very simple plots but very well written and performed (basically what ive listed from South Korea and Japan) to high drama done well (china/taiwan). i hope you find something you enjoy and get your drama fix

watching the gmmtv live while at work was a struggle but i managed it and my lab work so here’s my takeaways:
1. gmmtv, after conquering the japanese in the last part of the announcements, has now moved on to south korea. from what i gauged, only scarlet heart is a remake (of scarlet heart ryeo im guessing?) but the dark dice (or whatever it was called) i feel like is based off a manhwa and if not is heavily inspired by those kind of shows that have been popular in south korea (im thinking night has come, pyramid game etc)
2. gmmtv doesn’t want to give us serious, romantic plots. i can literally group all these announcements into 2 types of shows; fluffy, light rom-coms or dark-themed thriller-esque shows. that’s it. sometimes you’ll mix a little of one into the other, but for the most part, that’s what all these shows are, with the exception of the gl, us the series, and maybe thame-po as i don’t think it’s giving such a silly, comedic vibe as the rest of the lighter shows do. and that’s my main disappointment, bc it’s not like they haven’t done it before, im thinking of atots, last twilight, moonlight chicken- and no, it doesn’t escape me that these are all p’aof shows, but just bc he’s not directing, it doesn’t mean we should have to lose this style of show.
im not as disappointed as i thought i would be, but im also not particularly shocked or bowled over by anything. but ive learned before that i shouldn’t disregard shows so early so I’ll give everything a chance and hope i can get my desperately needed dose of pure romance somewhere else (japan and taiwan im looking at you)

Honest statement? This is not comforting. Old school BL? Not my comfort.
Even more worrisome, tbh.
Four books condensed into one 16 episodes series? Untrustworthy.
I mean, I'm still looking forward to it.
But with slightly more trepidation now.
More worries unlocked.
