The Omen
Perched over the hospital window sill of a dying
mother. Flying overhead as a storm approached.
Casting a shadow over a field before a war. An unkindness
swarming over a home after the birth of a
child. Death and calamity manifest.

The Warrior
Morrigan’s wing spread over the battlefield. Her black
plumage reflected red with the pools of blood soaking
the earth beneath her. Her presence is either an
omen of incoming death or a sign of an overwhelming
bloody victory. She came to rest on the tip of a spear ran
through a soldier’s chest. A shrill cry escapes her ebony
beak, the last sound many men heard that day.

The Prophet
Odin the all-father, coveted all knowledge. He
yearned to for prophecies to prevent the fall of Asgard and the end of the world. Ragnarök. On either of his shoulders sat Huginn and Munnin, thought and memory. They roamed the realms collecting information, whispering unending knowledge into the all-fathers ears. Their council helpedgive Odin foresight to better inform him of what may come next.

The Provider
Elijah sent out to ravine for sustenance an oasis
disguised by a barren land. A river to provide him
with water and for miles you flew to bring him meat
and bread. A bird accursed for satiating you hunger,
your indiscriminate taste labeled you unclean. Yet,
guided by God you saved the prophet the clean met
the unclean. A paradox sent by YHWH yet damned by His people.

The Progenitor
Believed to have been there in the beginning,
its beating wings carried fire down to earth. Feathers
white, once pure as snow now charred black by smoke to
give us light and warmth. Treacherous deeds put to
good use, stealing from pompous deities and redistributing
their wealth. Streams of water coveted by
the ones above, the weight carried in your beaks
and spread around the earth with every drop that
escaped. Your black feathers a testament of your aid
in creation.

The Trickster
No strangers to play and adept at deception, their
wisdom most often used for mischief. To them it’s
all fun yet still within all fairness. Always found in
pairs, working in tandem one to distract the other
to pilfer. Or in most cases just to amuse themselves.

The Wise
With memories that can be told and possibly passed
down to generations. One can only begin to fathom
the boundless amount of knowledge passed down
from the ages. Can the last Raven remember the
lessons of the first? Barters and representatives of
equivalent exchange they operate with an uncanny
intelligence. Clever and mysterious and operating
with logic, they can make deals with their human
counterparts as long as the exchange is fair. They
never forget their aggressors nor when they have
been cheated. Cautious travelers and masters of
impromptu ingenuity they can adapt to whatever
environment their wings take them to.
