The steady ringing of her phone was what woke Lily up a little past ten on a Monday morning. Probably work, was the first waking thought flashing through her mind. She had graduated university barely a year ago, but she had quickly learned that the more inconvenient the timing, the more likely it’d be her agent Mary giving her a ring. She groaned and blindly groped at the nightstand until finally, her fingers curled around the phone.

“Hello?” she mumbled, her voice thick with sleep, her eyelids still heavy.

“Hi Lily, how are you?”

The male voice at the other end of the line nudged Lily’s brain more awake. This was not Mary; this was not work. She blinked blearily, finally prying her eyes open and wincing at the brightness of her room.

“Well, right now I’m feeling tired. You know, had a late night.”

“Oh. Right. Of course. I didn’t wake you, did I?”

“You did, actually, but it’s fine. How are you holding up?”

His answer came in the form of a fit of horrid hacking coughs. Lily grimaced, pulling the phone back from her ear, until she heard him speak. “Sorry,” he wheezed breathlessly. “I think you can guess for yourself based on that. Anyway, I just wanted to check up on you. I’m sorry I couldn’t make it last night.”

Lily snorted.

“Remus. You should worry about yourself. You must be feeling bloody terrible when you even sound like crap.”

“I’ve been better,” he admitted wryly. “How was last night?”

“It was trying, but I managed not to strangle Potter.”

“That’s great. I admit I was a little worried about how you’d get along.”

“Honestly, it was fun. I was not happy at first, but Potter turned out to be a decent date and I actually enjoyed myself.”

I Am But Half a Soul (I Am Still Whole)

A soulmate au for @jilyfest‘s jily trope fest. I have had so much fun both writing and reading this week, it’s been amazing. 

In this au you don’t get a soulmark, but anytime your soulmate gets a tattoo, it shows up on your skin as well. Hope you enjoy!!

There was something quite beautiful about soulmates, the idea that there was someone out there, just perfect for you. Someone that would complete you, that would make you whole. Would make you feel like the world was okay. 

Lily hated soulmates. 

Well, more specifically, she hated her particular soulmate at this particular moment in time. A deer. That is what she had woken up to find this morning. A giant stag. Lily liked deer - well she wouldn’t necessarily say liked, but she didn’t mind them - but this tattoo took up the majority of her back. From her shoulder blades down to her waist. Yes, it was beautiful, all smooth black lines and tiny details, but really, it couldn’t have been smaller? 

Mary and Marlene only laughed when she showed them. 

“Maybe it means something?” Mary giggled out, her fingers grazing over her own soulmate’s tattoo that had shown up only a few days before - a small arrow on the side of her arm, right near her wrist. At least her soulmate had some decency. 

“What could it possibly mean?” Lily exclaimed, pulling her sweater back on. “That my soulmate, who ever they are, is an arse who didn’t think that someone else who is weirdly connected to them maybe wouldn’t want a giant stag on their back?”

“Maybe it means they’re staggeringly in love with you,” Marlene offered. Lily threw a pillow at her. 

“Fuck soulmates,” Lily said, flopping down beside Mary. “I’m already whole.” 

Mary sighed, fingering Lily’s rusty red hair where it intertwined with her dark strands. Lily knew that Mary had always loved soulmates, that she believed in hers, despite not knowing them. She was a hopeless romantic at her core. But she wouldn’t bring that up now. “Yeah, you are.”

Lily tried to ignore the empty feeling in her stomach, the feeling that something was missing. No one got to be her salvation. No one was going to be her saviour. She could save herself.

Coffee shop au. A story where James and Lily are blind - both in entirely different ways.

Written for @jilyfest and inspired loosely (in terms of style) by @cptjameskirk (whose work is much better and you should go and read first if you haven’t already done so).

Hair: Gentle burgundy curls that fall to her shoulders with some damage from when she was in middle school and thought she had to flat iron it twice a day.

Growing up, money had always been tight in the Evans household so by the time she is twenty, Lily has worked no fewer than twelve different jobs. There was the paper route, the nanny gig for the bratty triplets, enough waitressing so that she would never again be able to enjoy going out to dinner. Most horrifically was her three months at the butcher shop, where she slogged through mountains of innards every day and came home smelling so rancid that Petunia would refuse to let her in the house until she housed off on the front lawn.

All things considered, her new job at the coffee shop isn’t that bad.

Third Time’s the Charm

My contribution to the @jilyfest‘s Trope Fest. I don’t think I’ve ever done a coffee shop AU before..? Big thanks to my betas Maz & @gryffindormischief ♥

At almost 6,000 words, this one got away from me and therefore I only have one other one shot to offer later this week. ^^;

Lily frowned and shook her head, her red-rimmed eyes pleading as she hugged herself.

“I don’t know, Sirius. I don’t really feel like partying right now… This has been a really crappy day.”

“I know, love, and the offer to beat up that Snape guy still stands. But that’s precisely why you need to come with me. My friend throws great parties and you need to go out and forget all about that loser.” He smiled at her; that familiar, half-mocking bad boy smile. “Lily, today’s been the worst for you. All I’m saying is, you should end it on a good note, yeah?”

The corners of Lily’s lips quirked. The smile was wan and wobbly, but it was a smile nonetheless. Sirius was the sort of a person who didn’t take no for an answer – and his enthusiasm was always oddly contagious, much like the flu.

“Well, all right,” she said, heaving a dramatic sigh for Sirius’ benefit. “Since this is your friend we’re talking about I guess I’ll do him the favour of checking this party out.”

“Graceful and generous. I’ll make sure my friend appreciates this sacrifice of your valuable time.”

“He’d better. Besides, we both know you would have kept hounding me about this party until I agreed to go.”

“Me? I’d never do such a thing,” Sirius denied, his grey eyes twinkling in amusement.

“Sure you wouldn’t,” Lily grumbled, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. “When is this party?”

“It starts at seven.”

“Well, I’d better go and fix myself up. Don’t want to show up with a blotchy face and tear stains.”

“Yeah, the emo look is out of fashion,” Sirius teased. “I’ll come pick you up so we can go together.”

“Thanks, Sirius. Really.”

“No problem, love.”

This one is slightly different, though, because I thought I’d add the setting of a university. In short: this is kind of “The Prince & Me” as well as Kate and William-inspired. When Love Was King 

Queing at the King’s Head was an absolute nightmare. If a girl wanted to have a half pint, she would have to brave - predominantly male - bodies pushing into her bum, hands finding themselves dangerously close to the hem of her dress or rude bypassers who tell her they’d do her in the bathroom if she wanted. As she neared the bar, she briefly considered turning around after yet another hand had found itself inching up her leg, but she hadn’t withstood the terrors of getting drinks for her and her friends for nothing.  

When yet another body was pushed into her side and one hand landed on her bum, however, she had had quite enough. With a fierce glare plastered on her face she turned her head to lock eyes with a familiar hazel-eyed pair framed by glasses. A sheepish grin was on his face as he lifted his hands in defence. While his hand had left her bum, she could still feel the pressure of it.  

“Sorry,” he said, shoving his hands into the pockets of his jeans. “It’s far too crowded in here."
