Based on one of your recent asks:

The cm writers did the most atrocious thing by having a sibling-like relationship (where the girl shows maternal/older sister vibes THROUGHOUT THE GODDAMM SERIES) become a romantic/right-person-wrong-time relationship

YOU DO NOT NAME THE MAN YOU ARE IN LOVE WITH FOR YEARS, WHILE BEING IN A RELATIONSHIP AND GETTING MARRIED, THE GODFATHER TO YOUR TWO CHILDREN

What makes it worse is that Will had no fudging (idk how you feel about swearing lol) idea AND JENNIFER NEVER TOLD HIM. I found it so bad when in s15 she was in the hospital and Will allowed to Spencer to stay by saying "she will want to see you when she wakes up" AS A BROTHER. The second-hand guilt I felt in that moment was astronomical

firstly, we are okay with swearing on here don't worry! i appreciate the caution but i just tag any posts with tw swearing :) thank u for being considerate though!!!

i haven't actually seen anything past s11, so i THANKFULLY haven't seen the jeid arc but i've read a whole lot about it and the aftermath with will and it's just ... awful. will is such a kind and loving spouse who has always accepted jj and dealt with her workload even when it was hard and difficult (yes he had some issues a couple times but he stayed, when other relationships have broken down because of this exact thing)

i don't dislike jj but objectively? that's an awful way to treat somebody you're supposed to love. somebody you're married to, that you have two children with. she didn't HAVE to be with will. having a child with him did not mean she had to stay with him if she didn't want to, and it's COMPLETELY unfair on will to be with somebody who has 'been in love' with someone else (her co-worker who she spends more time with than him, her co-worker who he probably thinks of as family because he is the GODFATHER of their children)

it was bad writing. i don't think jj was in love with him the whole time, because if she was she sure had a FUNNY way of showing it, it was retconned for plot and for what reason? it was SO abominably silly

what you said about will seeing spencer like a brother :((( it's just horrible, it's emotional cheating and it's gross and it served NO purpose whatsoever other than to what? make a bit of tension for a few episodes? there were much better ways to do that than ruining a perfectly okay friendship and torpedoing jj's relationship with will in the process

I’ve always been very JJ neutral bc shes kind of boring to me, and the things I liked about her were mostly hcs. but lately ive been barely tolerating her sdjkhdskj. I think whats hard about JJ is that she doesnt have real character development past s3, and it makes her meaner moments more glaring bc she doesnt change as a person.

her professional growth seems unearned bc the audience never sees it. she comes back after a year and is this amazing spy-profiler. in 6.01 shes afraid to talk to an unsub and by 6.02 they want her to profile bin laden!!! and u can tell the writers know when JJ is becoming unlikable bc they just throw a bunch of trauma at her so we’ll feel bad, but its lazy and hollow. 

watching cm and other shows where characters do change for the better makes it hard for me to like her bc I cant look at JJ over 15 seasons and see 15 years worth of growth. tbf to the writers not every single person changes for the better over time, but those people often aren’t the most likable so... 💀

JJ's "stop being you" to reid when he reaches out to her while she's being haunted by Tivon Askari vs emily's "thank you for being you" when he does the same while she's being haunted by doyle.

And then they say she's been in love with him this whole time of course.

im not even a reidgirl and this moment always has me foaming at the mouth w rage akdhskhc ESPECIALLY bc he goes out of his way to try again and again to help her bc he sees his friend hurting, even when she’s pushing him away… he’s the one they always say doesnt understand people, but he keeps trying and trying and gives jj exactly what she needs to get herself through this

i think what makes this part particularly infuriating is that, as much as she claims otherwise, reid knows exactly what jj is going through? reid struggled soooo much after tobias and he was also lashing out at people trying to help him, unwilling to receive help the same way jj does bc they both hate to be seen as weak. and jj, of all people, should understand that. bc jj had her own ptsd and survivor’s guilt from that moment and blames herself for what happened to him.

later when emily comes back from being “dead” and they talk ab how reid came crying to jj every night for x weeks and nearly relapsed, jj gets angry at him for being upset with her. despite reid being the one who felt betrayed by people he loved most, jj was the one in tears because he wouldnt immediately forgive her for it, even going so far as to say he was being childish and acting out. and i think its bc she doesnt understand why he’s not bothering to hide his resentment

i think more than anything this moment was about jj seeing her trauma as a weakness or as a deficiency of some kind. she thinks she should just suck it up and power through bc that’s how she defines strength. she lashes out at reid bc he’s noticing that she’s struggling and he’s paying attention to it instead of just ignoring it. he’s doing for her what he wishes people had done for him. but unlike the others who regret not being there for him after tobias, jj doesnt feel that way. she thinks she did him a favor by not pointing out how he was struggling, as if it’s something to be embarrassed about.

im not saying reid has the best perspective on mental health either, but for someone who’s supposed to be emotionally immature, he far surpasses jj in regards to empathy and respect for others’ hardships. he’s a little clumsy sometimes in his attempts to help, but morgan and emily and the others all think its endearing and are comforted by his consideration. jj is just ashamed to need help in the first place (and thinks its shameful for others to rely on others as well) and hates that he’s calling attention to it.

anyway ajdhakgs i feel like i got off on a tangent there but the point is that jj has such a simplistic view of strenght/weakness. and its not just something she applies to herself either, which is why i get so annoyed with her. bc really she’s just a scared little girl who’s frightened of anyone getting close enough to see how hurt she is, but she’s turned all that fear into anger and wields it as a weapon against people who love her—both by resenting them for trying to help her and belittling them when they need help themselves.

Thinking about how JJ told Reid in season nine that he wouldn’t understand because he didn’t have kids, even though he loved Henry like his own.

And how she would’ve said the same thing to Ella when Ella said Hotch couldn’t take a desk job at that point in time because he wasn’t ready and neither was Jack (neither was she.)

And how Ella would’ve been so pissed, but so unable to say anything because it just would not have been the appropriate time or place.

But then they’d get home from the case, and Jack would call her Mama- because Haley is still Mom- and all that anger would fade away because it doesn’t matter if nobody else understood.

Jack did. Aaron did. Jessica did. She did. And really, the three of them were all that mattered to her.

It annoys me how everyone is rolling their eyes and making fun of Spencer whenever he has some obscure fact, especially because most of the time they take advantage of the fact that he knows these things and then mocks him for it. JJ especially annoys me sometimes because she is so dismissive of him, often when he actually has a point, and she seems to never pass up an opportunity to make fun of him. She seriously gives me school bully vibes sometimes.

1. media liaison JJ had so much potential and turning her into a profiler felt like a short cut. why would a communications liaison be a sharp shooter?

2. for whatever her justification and history, she was definitely one of those straight high school popular girls who you'd get partnered with in class and she'd be super nice to you and then never talk to you again afterwards. imo that's worse than being a bully

3. she never really felt part of the team, even when she did become a profiler. it's always the ones with a basic ass personality that get to decide who's interests are cringy and who's aren't. (links to no. 4)

4. she's a cultural snob and yet sticks to mainstream culture. if you don't like what she likes, she's not gonna like you -> rolls her eyes when hotch says he used to be a nerd, weirded out by penelope's quirks, apathetic to spencer's rambles, judges an unsub for his taste in rock music

5. she's incredibly insecure about being a mom. which is fine, being a mom is tough. but that doesn't justify her overcompensating with narcissism -> judging a depressed mom for sending her son away so he wouldn't see her self-harm.

now all these things aren't necessarily bad. but it's very hard to be friends with or even like someone who's got these qualities.
