The most recent Ann Arbor Library art class was abstract art. Since we are all at home, Payton said we should use anything we have, if you don't have paint or drawing materials you can find things to use. I have everything, but decided to try to use natural materials. So I used what I had around the house. Coffee, beet juice, dandelions, grass and charred wood. I used the candle for resist, but it didn't work well. Oh yeah, and some amaranth, why not?

Ok, this is admittedly weird. In library art class we learned about the Harlem Renaissance and the visual artists of the time. Romare Bearden did, among other things, collages.
We were supposed to do a collage of what we think of as home. I got silly and was going to build it out of food. Thus the granola bar house, salad front yard and cookie driveway. then I got sillier when I saw the grass monster. No, I do not have a monster in my yard, just bunnies that eat everything.
We had an hour and limited magazines. It was fun and a good art lesson.
We also learned about Jacob Lawernce, Aaron Douglas, Charles Henry Alston, Lois Mailou Jones, and Augusta Savage.

This week’s Inktober prompt is shadow. What better shadow than a noir shadow. I’m not sure what, if any, movie this is from. The photo credit is Benn Mitchell on Getty Images. A great noir photo in any event. It was interesting drawing it as I didn’t notice the car or the shadow in the upper left ( person, light pole, fire hydrant?).
