In a psychology class we discussed how photographs make us feel. One image was of a corn field which got an overall positive response. I, however, got a sort of zombie vibe from it. I seemed to be the odd one out. For the rest of class I pondered how that image could be changed to shift the tone of that picture to a more spooky tone. I've been experimenting with other pictures using the same logic. Thus Jim Gaffigan as the Doctor. The original picture contained him holding some pizza and standing in front of a green screen. I wanted to shift the tone from goofy to serious.

I understand what you're saying. When I post on this blog, I feel that it needs to be an entertaining image because that's why people followed me in the first place. I can't just ponder some thought, describe an experience, post a funny joke, or post a doodle of a slightly smaller horse of which I deem ownership (that was wordplay btw). Those that follow this blog followed so they could see photoshopped pictures of John Green. At this point I have photoshopped everything I think would be more amusing with John Green's face. So much so that I've burnt myself out on Tumblr, Nerdfighteria, and Vlogbrothers as a whole. I still feel like I represent the idea of a nerdfighter but the passion of actively participating in this group has all but died inside of me. I really couldn't tell you why.
Sorry, got off topic.
As for what you can do with your blog, I don't think there is much you /can/ do. Your blog is a nerdfighter art blog so your followers are people interested in nerdfighter art. Post anything outside of that and your risk alienating someone. Post Harry Potter and you risk alienating those that don't like it. Post My Little Pony, you alienate those that aren't into that. It's a battle I have long since given up trying to fight. Your options might only be to stay the course or just leave the account. Alternately you could take the "F*** it" approach and just post what you find interesting and take the lost followers as they go. It's a risky bet but could pay off if you attract more people that are interested than the ones that leave. But even doing that, you'll be a similar position eventually. I choose to just stay dormant. It's simpler.
Excuse my ramblings. I forgot the point somewhere down the paragraph.
Some Thoughts About This Blog
I’ve been thinking about the persona that I project here at Hanklerfish Comic. Most of my posts are artwork, and when I do write text, the words I use on this Tumblr account are formulated somewhat subconsciously to fit the image of myself that I think the followers of this blog expect from me. I think it has mostly to do with the fact that I have thousands of followers on here, about 25 times more than on any of my other accounts. I think to myself “If you write something, you’d better have something worthwhile and relevant to say, because you’re using an elevated platform to say it, and those people didn’t follow you because of your text posts.” And maybe that’s at least partly silly, but it is a real inhibition I have.
One thing that got me thinking about this is Hank’s most recent video, Feeling Thankful in Portland, in which he talks about how we use our platforms. I get excited when my comics get a lot of notes, but I get even more excited when I write something that I think is really important, and that gets a lot of notes. Although I haven’t been posting as much here lately (because how much can one really do with two fish people and the nerdfighter jokes?), I still feel passionate about nerdfighteria. I’m wondering if I can do more with this blog in a way that doesn’t just entertain people, but focuses more on decreasing worldsuck in some way, but without alienating most of my followers. Right now I don’t really know what that would look like, but I’m open to ideas, and I would love your feedback about anything in this post.
And don’t worry, I’m still going to continue posting nerdfighter art. I have some things made that I haven’t posted yet.
Thank you, and DFTBA!

Hey guys! I just created the tumblr loveforjohngreen, which is a collection of consolidated fan messages for or about John Green from the rest of tumblr, as well as submissions. I made it so that there’s a place where John can easily find fan messages without getting bombarded with negativity. I don’t know if he’ll see any of it but at least it’ll be there if he ever wants to. You can submit posts or you can tag the tumblr if you want something you posted to be reblogged.

So I took the same survey that John Green took. I thought I’d share it here in case anyone was curious as to my answers.
fuckyeahsurveys
Might answer some of these with pictures. Visual mediums are fun.
1. Do you usually sleep with your closet door open or closed?
Tumblr media
Ehh…Broken
2. Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotels?
If I was in my dorm at the time, totally. Otherwise no.

This made me a bit curious as to my own stats. So I took about an hour and a half, and I sifted through my own notes. Here are my results:
Hank:
Reblogs: 5
John:
Reblogs: 1 (I was so proud when I got this)
And just for the heck of it.
Sylvia:
Reblogs: 26
Reblogging score update: Hank just got to 50! Holy crap! John is at 10, so if this were a competition in the quadragocon, Hank would have won the whole thing.
If you haven’t been following since the beginning, I started keeping track of how many times Hank and John reblogged original things from me as soon as Hank reblogged the second thing. Evidently this scoring system spurred a whirlwind of brotherly competition (especially within Hank) which has provided this blog with continual exposure and growth. Thank you!

Whoa, it’s like I was looking at a normal Hanklerfish comic and then put my glasses on.

Howdy!
This blog is dedicated to a Tumblr-wide, Nerdfighter Art Project!
“Art project?” You ask, “That sounds neat-o, but what kind of art project?”
Well that is a great question, *mumbles inaudible name*. This project seeks to unify and challenge to artists of the Tumblr Nerdfighteria. Everyone is given a theme and a deadline and on that day in particular everyone posts their submission. Flooding Tumblr with awesome content!
“Well, gosh darn! That sure sounds like a fun time!” You exclaim, “But I can’t draw!”
Another good point, *mumbles inaudible name*. Might I say that you also have a great name!
It doesn’t matter the medium you use. Writing, sculpting, drawing, Minecraft building. Any way that you create is fine with us!
I’m keeping the theme secret but the deadline is May 21st. If you’re interested, please email [email protected] for more information.
Let’s create something awesome!

Wouldn't it be easier to do this art project thing over tumblr (maybe a separate blog?) rather than via email? That way people can join in half way through, when they see something they want to respond to?
Well, the point of the email is to centralize information distribution. I send one email to everyone rather than send a message to each individual person.
I had it in my head that we would post on our individual accounts rather than a central tumblr. So some Nerdfighter on Tumblr gets on and sees their dash flooded with similarly themed things from different users.
Though, now that you said that. It may be a good idea to have a specific Tumblr for information and signal boosting. Here’s one I just set-up. Excuse the simplicity. I can be reached there but I'll be a bit slower to respond.

Okay, let's do this!
You've done it now, Tumblr. You've encouraged me to start a project. Let's unite our Nerdfighter art abilities! If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I think it would be cool if the artists of Nerdfighteria combined their talents and post art pieces of the same theme on the same day. Thus suddenly flooding Tumblr with awesome. By art, I mean whatever media you're talented (drawing, writing, Minecraft, etc.). I have a theme and date picked out. If you would like to participate or have questions email me at [email protected] and I'll give y'all the details. Let's make awesome happen!
