According to A Discoverie of Witchcraft in 1584, witches like to 'saile in an egge shell, a cockle or muscle shell, through the tempestuous seas'. It was traditional to crush the broken egg shells so they were not stolen by witches. To avoid witches, sailors would either crush their eggshells or ban them aboard. This superstition persists today, with some sailors only referring to eggs as “roundabouts”.

In The Midnight Meat Train (2008) we see the City Fathers. There was a character called The Grandfather who was going to be the leader of the monsters, but he was eliminated from the movie. The appearance of "The Father of Fathers" was also going to be included, as in Clive Barker's original story, but it was not included either.
