Interview with Russell T Davies, Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson (who had been off exploring the set while Ncuti was filming
NG: [Laughing] I’ve got my own castle! That one was so much fun for me. I had all my scenes with Jonathan [Groff ] and what a wonderful energy to sweep through our show and a wonderful voice as well. It stands out. He’s such a deep actor.
MG: [Brandishing phone] Sorry, that’s it… [Shows photo of her in full costume, in sunglasses, by a fountain surrounded by greenery] I’m in my own fairy tale…
RTD: Can we have the cover of SFX with that? [Millie and Ncuti are falling about laughing]
MG: I was throwing pebbles… This is what I was doing when you were working with Jonathan.
You were doing night shoots and Ncuti was at Beyoncé with Jonathan…
[Ncuti howls with laughter]
MG: How the other half live. I was covering for Ncuti so he could live his Beyoncé dream.
NG: Jonathan took me to Beyoncé, yes. [Laughs] That was amazing. He had that in his contract. [Bursts out laughing again] Incredible. Incredible.
Interview with Ben Chessell, the Australian director of Jonathan’s episode Rogue
What was Jonathan Groff like?
As a director, I work with lots of famous actors, and a lot of my friends are actors. I don’t really get starstruck, but I was slightly starstruck by Jonathan Groff. He’s worked with David Fincher. God, I’m directing someone who’s directed by Fincher. All the time he’s got to be standing there thinking, “This guy’s not as good as Fincher.”
But he was so sweet and so delightful. Again, you don’t know what to expect. You try to go in with an open mind, but there are some American actors who stand on ceremony and expect a certain kind of formality on a set, and Jonathan couldn’t have been less like that.
After more than 30 years in Los Angeles, Alfred Molina is enjoying his newly minted status as an Upper West Sider.
“My wife and I have bought an apartment here, and we’re slowly transitioning to New York,” he said last month at Lincoln Center Theater before a rehearsal for the Chekhov classic “Uncle Vanya,” which opens on Broadway on Wednesday.
Molina, who is originally from London, shared his favorite walk in New York, why he loves the subway, and a Jonathan Groff-inspired song lyric that he came up with seemingly on the spot. These are edited excerpts from the conversation.

Jonathan Groff
A friend for life who introduced me to my wife. Now there’s a lyric for you! I’ve seen him three times in “Merrily We Roll Along,” and each time he was brilliant.
The cast is wild, and very queer. What’s it like working with Jinkx Monsoon and Jonathan Groff?
Incredible, incredible. They brought such depth, talent and creativity. I mean, Jinkx is playing a super villain and one of the most powerful that the Doctor has ever faced. She filled that role with such theatrical energy, it was incredible. She had just come off Broadway. How she was using her voice, body, all the tools in her acting toolkit… It was incredible to see that energy lock on in a camera space. For me, as a theatre actor, I was like, ‘This is just really, really, really great to see someone’s craft so finely tuned and placed so well in this space.’ She is a formidable foe character-wise, and also just a great actor to learn from.
Jonathan Groff brought something to the show that I don’t think we’ve seen in a long time, which will make sense when it’s released. But yeah, it definitely brings out a new side to the Doctor. It was really nice to see the Doctor vulnerable. Jonathan is so talented. He has such an ease to him and is such a kind, kind, kind person anyway. Seeing the world enriched with these incredible queer performers, bringing elements of themselves to the table, was amazing. The world which Russell’s creating is so perfect

He pats his shaved head as he enters, explaining that he had to undergo the haircut for the [Looking] finale in a scene that was, “cathartic for both me and the character.” He has since been reacquainting himself with woolly hats. Winq Magazine
