Plus Size, Cute/Nerdy Indie Fashion
No links, because I don't want Tumblr to eat the post, but message me if you have questions on anything. And if you have any suggestions for me, please let me know!
Morning Witch - Flora and fauna prints. I've purchased multiple midi skirts (with pockets!) and T-shirts, and one fantastic sweater. My datemate @fortangel loves their button downs, which have hip buttons to allow for more room.
Fresh Hot Flavors - Gorgeous prints and patterns, from floral to fantasy, anime-inspired to mythology, and of course pride colors. I've got their maxi and midi skirts, plus petticoats, all of which are super comfy and gorgeous and, again, pocketed.
Maya Kern - I've had my eye on her skirts for AGES, and now that I've got a few of my own I couldn't be happier! Once again, flora and fauna prints, plus some other neat options. These seem to fit a tad bit more snugly than the first two, so keep that in mind with sizing and be sure to pay attention to the measurements.
Witch Vamp - More skirts with pockets, skater, midi and max! A slightly darker/more edgy style, and some solid colors available too. My spider lily skirt from this shop may be the single most comfortable piece of clothing I own.
Vetiver Fox - Admittedly I don't have one of their skirts yet, but they're absolutely gorgeous and I'll be getting one as soon as they're in stock this summer. Truly stunning patterns, flora, fauna, and mythological.
Sealkie Cove - Source of my ridiculous, beloved, neon pink furby button down.
Crowlines - I don't have any of their clothes yet either, but the patterns are SO cute! Skirts and button downs. The best kitten prints ever, I think.
Cheek Boss - Odd shop out here, this one sells underwear and socks. The designs are lovely, they're ridiculously comfortable, and these are the first underwear I've ever looked at myself in and thought "Wow, I look cute!" The socks are also super cute, but I've had quality issues. Then again, they were from their first batch when they first started selling socks, and may have improved.

honestly fucking fascinating that people will pretty universally understand that thin people can be naturally predisposed to thinness regardless of what they eat or their activity level, but that so many of the same people cannot possibly fathom that fat people could have similar dispositions or that there could be any factors more complex than a "lack of self control."

You know I wish fatphobia was less pervasive. Even among people who consider themself as progressive, it's rampant. So quick reminder. No it's actually not easy to stop being fat, and it sucks that we are treated differently for something we really can't control. Shaming a fat person for being fat, and shaming them for not having the "willpower" to become skinny- is bigotry. And if all you talk to fat people about is weight loss and dieting- congratulations! You're being a dick! Stop.

Not even touching on the systemic discrimination of fat people with this one: I think a lot of thin people have yet to reflect on just how much stuff fat people get hate for. These are some things that get seen as - and frequently very explicitly described/presented as - disgusting or funny when fat people do it:
- walking
- running
- standing up
- sitting down
- any sport
- dancing
- expressing hunger
- eating
- breathing
- sweating
- showing skin
- adjusting clothing
- appearing in pictures or videos
- feeling romantic or sexual attraction
- acting on romantic or sexual attraction
- being the target of romantic or sexual attraction
And anecdotally I'd say it's worst among teenagers. Just. Please consider the work it takes to even feel like a person, when this much of your humanity is reduced to a punchline during your formative years. Almost every normal part of existing comes with a side of contempt. You don't get to count. You're continuously reminded of how uacceptable you are. I'm not saying every fat person experiences this, or to the exact same degree. Of course not. But many do, and none should. If you're someone who's made it through that, or you're living through it right now - you are so fucking strong.

Pressuring anyone to diet or lose weight is abusive, regardless of whether that person is your partner, your friend, or a complete stranger to you. Apparently, a lot of people in the community are genuinely unaware of this. But an even greater and alarming number of people out there just pretend to be unaware of this fact so they donโt feel guilty about fat-shaming and food policing someone they claim to care about. ๐ง

Obvious troll is obvious
Just got a submission from an obvious-troll who created an entire brand-new account so submit a looooong ask that pretended to be curious about fat liberation or what they called "fat acceptance and the fatosphere"---old terms from about ten years ago that have since been replaced by fat liberation, and a major red flag that this person wasn't actually doing any new reading on the subject.
This obvious-troll wanted to know why if disliking fat bodies isn't an inborn preference, why haven't larger fat people ever in any society in all of history been considered the object of desire and/or the pinnacle of beauty ?
And I'm over here like
and
and
โThe more obese the more admired are the ladies of the harem.โ A.H. Keane, The Worldโs Peoples: a Popular Account of their Bodily and Mental Characters, Beliefs, Traditions, Political and Social Institutions , London, 1909, p. 175, fig. 102. The Turkish appreciation for fat was widely reported in the nineteenth century and beyond.ย
and
Hatshepsut's relief of Parehu, the chief of Punt, next to his fat wife.
and
Chinese Tang art.
and
Wealth--Virupaksha Temple.
Nice try, obvious-troll. But it turns out that "preferences" for body types are not in the same category as one's sexuality. Meaning that when people suggest that fatness can be attractive, they are not threatening or denying some essential part of your sexuality.
Also--and this should go without saying---that even if you don't find someone attractive, they still deserve the same rights as everyone else. Another red flag that you are a troll and not at all honestly curious is immediately reducing the primary goals of fat liberation to fat people wanting to get banged more often. I mean, come the fuck on.
