82 YEARS AGO - BATMAN DEBUTED FOR THE FIRST TIME Eighty-two years ago on March 30, 1939, Detective Comics #27 hit newsstands, introducing the Caped Crusader for the very first time in a featured story called “The Case of the Chemical Syndicate.”
“And for all that fierce exterior, I’ve never met anyone who cared as deeply about his fellow man as Bruce Wayne.”  - Amanda Waller, Justice League Unlimited, Season 2 Episode 13 (2005)

Do you think Clark Kent had to be formula fed.
And do you think, for a moment, Martha Kent realized she was in over her head.
An alien baby, a canister of formula from the closest shop that she’s not even sure he can eat.
She’s just holding him in front of her with the bottle in one hand and his neck propped up in the other. He’s screaming his head off and she knows he’s hungry but she can’t bring herself to give it to him. She doesn’t know what he is, what will kill him. She may have met this baby maybe a couple hours ago but she’s already decided to protect him with her life.
Jonathan’s out in the shed trying to find any of the old baby clothes and pacifiers they were gifted while they were trying at least half a decade ago; Martha’s pretty sure she threw them all away the second the doctor broke the news.
She realizes that if they do actually do this it’s not going to be easy, and it’s actually going to be quite terrifying. They will always be waiting for that phone call, that knock on the door. From this point forward strangers and outsiders who come sniffin’ for one reason or another will terrify them.
She wonders if they’ll tell him how they actually came to be his parents, or let him live in blissful ignorance.
She counts down to three in her head. And gives him the bottle.
He drinks it happily; perfectly fine.
She can’t remember when she started holding her breath.
A loose curl of his blacker than black hair falls onto his forehead and covers his bluer than blue eyes. She brushes it away and he grabs her fingers with a grip stronger than she thought it’d be. It makes her bark out a laugh.
Something with those pudgy cheeks and that gummy smile can’t be all that terrifying.

Spring Cleaning: Fic Edition
Honestly, @salparadiselost's post about posting the 'kindling' (scraps of a fic that are probably never going to be completed) to clear space for new ideas sounds like a fantastic idea. As some of you may have noticed, I cleared through a chunk of my WIPs while I was prepping for my thesis (procrastination is truly the best motivator) and given all the things that are going to happen this summer (graduation! moving! new job! travel!), I'm thinking about clearing out my WIPs and ideas, some of which are years old at this point.
A chunk of these (WIPs that are half/nearly complete, including the remaining subscriber specials) will be uploaded as full fics, but it remains to be seen what I'll do with the rest. So here's a poll of the options:

I'm sorry I'm in such a writing rut right now. I'm trying to write but it's just #bad.
Kinda related but I was talking to someone about my scraps of ideas and things that have a couple scenes but just didn't work out and they told me about a 'kindling' fic. Apparently this is something one of their friends does - its a WIP fics where the author posts all the 'kindling', the random scenes, the ideas that didn't work out, half completed things. Some things won't ever be worked on more, but sometimes they pull things up from kindling and actually give it further development. I have enough ideas that I feel like a could post a few, even if I don't think they have the muster to be full fics.
Would y'all be interested in something like that?

“oh I’m 100% human” says the Batkid who’s been inoculated against 76 different kinds of Scarecrow’s fear toxin, has built up immunity to almost anything Poison Ivy has created, routinely goes diving into the Gotham harbor on patrol, has been blessed/cursed by a variety of deities (depending on the kid), frequently picks up random/temporary powers from various missions, and operates at beyond peak human capabilities in combat, athleticism, and intelligence.

Are there any New 52 Batfam (or Batfam-adjacent, like Birds of Prey) titles worth reading?
I'm currently reading We Are Robin and will absolutely try Batwoman, so those aren't included! I started Redhood and the Outlaws and hated it (could not stand Starfire's characterization).
And apparently they changed things for New 52 and then changed them back for Rebirth? My brain doesn't need that kind of flip-flopping lol so I'd rather skip to Rebirth unless something is really good or really important.
