ᴜ𝐫ƀ𝑎𝝶 đə𝖈𝑎𝝲 Cleveland is full of it (urban rot), so programs like, @mufigram and @phsgardening, in neighboring states addressing urban blight have been of particular interest to me.. But, as I pass by properties like this, I (still) wonder how our neighborhoods can push for more equal distribution of resources and the democratization of urban space (the opposite of gentrification?) before “exclusion” is rebranded as “renewal”. Gentrification is 𝒏𝒐𝒕 an unstoppable force! (at Cleveland, Ohio) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNZemdEBBby/?igshid=1eyx9hikm0own

Quincy (Jones) said to me, ‘You managed to come up with a title for the last album, see what you can do for this album.’ So I went back to the hotel, wrote two or three hundred titles, and came up with the title Midnight Man. The next morning, I woke up, and I just said this word… Something in my head just said, this is the title. You could visualize it on the top of the Billboard charts. You could see the merchandising for this one word, how it jumped off the page as Thriller.” • 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗲𝗿. MJ told Quincy Jones the track was based on a girl who climbed over his wall one morning and accused him of being the father of one of her twins. • 𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿. @janetjackson and @latoyajackson sang backing vocals on P.Y.T. While estimates vary, “Thriller” is said to have sold at least 66 million copies globally, according to the Guinness World Records, while others have claimed the album has sold over 100 million copies worldwide.

The Black Panther Party is often associated with armed resistance, but one of the most potent weapons in its outreach to African-Americans in cities across the country was its artwork. In posters, pamphlets and its popular newspaper, The Black Panther, the party’s imagery was guided by the vision of Emory Douglas, its minister of culture. His art came from many sources. As a teenager in San Francisco during the late 1950s and early 1960s, Mr. Douglas found himself incarcerated at the Youth Training School in Ontario, Calif., where he got involved with its printing shop. He went on to study graphic design at San Francisco City College, where he developed a deep interest in the Black Arts Movement, the artistic arm of the Black Power Movement. His particular background, a combination of art, printmaking and activism, eventually attracted the eye of the Black Panther co-founder Bobby Seale, and led to Mr. Douglas’s becoming a central figure in the party. The newspaper’s circulation eventually climbed to over 200,000, making it one of the most popular black newspapers of its day. In the years since the party’s demise, Mr. Douglas’s posters have come to be known as iconic artifacts of their era. | #EmoryDouglas #BlackPantherParty #TheBlackPanther #AllPowerToThePeople #SeizeTheTime (at Oakland, California)
