Creepypasta References in Spongebob
If you've been on the internet for a while now, you've most likely heard of Squidward's Suicide, also called sometimes Red Mist. It's a creepypasta about a Nickelodeon intern who receives an episode to edit called "Squidward's Suicide", and the supposed episode is about Squidward being harshly booed at a recital, and he goes home and shoots himself after a mysterious voice tells him to. It's full many cliches, and is the pioneer of "hyper-realistic eyes". Still, it became pretty infamous.
So infamous, it was referenced in Spongebob itself in the season 12 episode "Spongebob in Randomland". In the episode, Spongebob and Squidward have to deliver a krabby patty to Randomland, a land that's entire nonsensical. It's a fairly funny episode, with a lot of interesting visual gags. However, in the episode, the two are faced with a wall of doors, with only one leading back to Bikini Bottom. One of the doors they shows Squidward's room, then some static and a drawing of the infamous "Red Mist Squidward" flashes on screen. In fact you can see the clip here!
youtube
It's... certainly surprising to see. Of course this was eventually edited in US airings, where instead of the room and creepy Squidward, it simply shows the door opening to a blue baby with Squidward's head that fills his diaper, to say in a non-gross way. This was applied to some countries as well, but remained in other countries like UK and Canada. Personally, for while I had no idea the episode was edited because I still see the original airing here in Canada.
Funny enough, this may not be the only reference to Squidward's Suicide in the series. The season 13 episode "A Place for Pets" features a scene where Squidward is deliver a tray of drinks to some customers, but his allergies are acting up because someone brought a worm in the Krusty Krab. In an almost eerily smooth animation, Squidward sneezes aggressively and accidentally slams his face into the red cups and looks to camera for a moment before dislodging them. Below is a comparison of the frame alongside the Red Mist image.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While it could be a coincidence and nothing more, it's hard to deny there's a resemblance, especially with Squidward looking right at the view with what looks like red eyes (again, they're actually just cups) with a heavy frown. If they were bold enough reference the creepypasta before, who's to say they wouldn't try it again in a way that wouldn't get censored.

I went to a really cool Chinese shop and came across some cute fans.
But underneath was a whole new box of potato’s.
Very evilstick-esque with the creepy concealed by the cute.

Blank Room Soup.avi, a hoax?
I believe by now most of the internet is familiar with "Blank Room Soup.avi", or originally called "Freaky Soup Guy", a video wherein two costumed characters comfort a man who's crying while eating soup.
Tumblr media
It's off putting at worst, maybe slightly uncomfortable. Of course there were rumors that it came from the dark web and that the man was forced to eat a soup that had his dead wife in it, or slight variations of.
Of course, none of that is true. The truth, however, is rather muddled.
See, the costumes belonged to a man named Raymond Persi. Raymond Persi works for Disney and is an animator, director, and voice actor for a handful of movies and The Simpsons between season 16-21 and The Simpson's Movie. Raymond also had these costumes, as they were a project of his that were essentially mascots for events or stage shows. The act was called "RayRay".
According to Raymond Persi, one day while out for a show, the costumes were stolen, and some time he was later sent this video. Finding it absurd, he posted it to youtube to show his friends, and the costumes remain stolen. Though still a mystery as to who stole the costumes and made the video is, the rest of the mystery is solved right?
Well, there's a possibility that Raymond Persi's story is a fabrication. Below the cut, I'll go into a very likely theory about what is possibly going on. Nothing is confirmed, however.
What's lesser known is that there were actually multiple videos in this series. The second video is mostly the same, the man is in the lackluster room crying with his soup, but now they mascots are off to the side, watching, until the last couple seconds when one of them runs up to the man and kicks him. The third video, however, is where it gets interesting.
Tumblr media
It's a 10 second clip, where in a dark alleyway with a single spotlight, "RayRay" comes out with what we can assume is a hostage. The man is bound and gagged. The camera zooms in on both of them, before cutting off.
So it got it eerier, it seems, but this is the beginning of a lead.
Raymond Persi has a sister named Dominique Lenore Persi, who is the front woman for an experimental rock band called "Stolen Babies", a band with quite some horror themes to their songs and music videos.
Tumblr media
As we can already see, there's quite a similarity between the "hostage" in Blank Soup Room 3 and the gentleman in the hat and glasses on the left.
Tumblr media
In fact, as we can see here, he has the same pale face, glasses, hat, and red jacket. Oh, and ropes, isn't that funny.
As a matter of fact, there are photoshoots of RayRay with Stolen Babies!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And they've even been there for their shows as mascots, fulfilling their intended purpose after all. In all, just a brother helping support his sister's band.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, let's loop around. RayRay, Stolen Babies, Blank Soup Room.avi. What's the theory? That Blank Soup Room may just be a promoting stunt for Stolen Babies. I personally think Raymond lied about the suits being stolen and the video being sent to him to try to make it more mysterious and spooky. I mean, sometimes people just lie, even when regarding searches and mystery.
Unless it's true that the costumes were stolen, and maybe Blank Room Suit inspired Raymond Persi to make more creepy videos and photos for Stolen Babies with spare costumes of RayRay.
Either way, nothing is confirmed for certain. We still don't know who the crying man eating the soup is, we don't know who's under the costumes, and we don't know if Persi is telling the truth or not. Still, the first soup video is... quite eerie.

Lost Media - Halloween Animatronic
One of my most niche interests is Halloween animatronics. Surprisingly, there is even a small community for this that tends to align with haunters- people that operate or work at haunted houses. An interesting rabbit hole to dive down is that, somehow, get lost. It's crazy to think how an entire robot goes missing, but it can happen for a variety of reasons, such as prototypes not being picked up or finished, props being unable to find a distributor (such as Spirit Halloween, Home Hardware, or other pop up Halloween shops), or so few being made due to high cost that they tend to wind up lost in some storage unit somewhere.
One of the most sought after animatronics appears to be the Face Ripper Crying Bride, which would be developed by Morbid Enterprises/Industries (unfortunately, this producer went bankrupt in 2020 and shut down, but you may know them as the people that made the prop infamously featured in the Russian Sleep Experiment photo.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the name suggests, the face ripper bride would have hands molded to her face, so as her head lifted it would appear as though she was ripping her face off. Very simple, yet very creepy, definitely would have traumatized me as a kid. So, here's a post dedicated to her.
Let's start with a demonstration of the prop's actions, which could be found with the matching Face Ripper Groom that was produced and sold!
youtube
A little bit more popular, a face ripper clown was made, and the only of the three to be sold at Spirit Halloween.
youtube
So, what happened to the bride?
Well, we're not entirely sure. We do know that she appeared in a catalogue magazine for the 2009 season, which is where the photos we have come from. That's about all we have. Supposedly a video of the prop in action existed at one point, uploaded by the distributor HalloweenAsylum, but was deleted likely due to the product not being released as planned. The original owner of Morbid said he has it in an email, but the password to the email was lost, so he can't access it.
There was a point where somebody on youtube claimed to have the audio files, however the op claims they were removed for termination, then states that they accidentally corrupted the files. The clean audios were up long enough for people to nab them, so we do know the supposed audio, if not a very good recreation of the audio. You can hear the alleged audio in this video. If you do seek the corrupted audios, be aware of a volume warning, as the audios are very high pitched and loud.
The validity of this audio is debated upon, as there are reasons for both sides. First starters, OP seems to be an archivist for rare Morbid audio. The quotes are faithful to the agreed memory that she says "I'll make him suffer for what he did to me", the audio having a spookier voice halfway through, and the way that it follows the same formula as the clown and groom. However, some people recall her having a Southern accent, which is missing here in the alleged videos of her audio. It's also strange that OP would have the high quality of just the audio from the Halloween Asylum video, only to lose it roughly a week later and somehow corrupt the audio. As well, cross referencing with Halloween Asylum's videos from 2009 to the high quality that was reuploaded by other users (such as the one in the link), makes me rule out that it's unlikely the audio is real. The videos posted by Halloween Asylum in 2009 are obviously not the best quality, far lower than that audio clip. Some demo videos have the audio completely replaced with music (likely props with no audio), while other demo videos have the lower quality sound of the prop as well as a lot of background noise from the store/setup (or wherever these videos came from). To isolate the animatronic's audio from a 2009 video so cleanly and somehow in higher quality would be a difficult task, there would likely have to be some artifacting in the audio. Even these days, isolating vocals from a modern song can prove difficult as you often still hear the surrounding audio. Plus, to lose 14 years of that very rare isolated audio in such high quality to corruption would be more devastating than OP seems to act in their video comments.
So, that's about all we have. Close leads, but not close enough to help us find her. I can only hope that she gets found soon, perhaps the prototypes from the catalogue or the Halloween Asylum video, she has a particular charm to her craving for vengeance.

The Nightmare
Rodney Ascher, the director of the documentary Room 237 (amazing doc about The Shining), is back with a new and very scary documentary about sleep paralysis. The Nightmare follows eight people and their very terrifying experiences with sleep paralysis. The movie was featured in this year’s Sundance Film Festival and did really well. It’s coming to theaters in June.
“Sleep paralysis (is a) surprisingly common phenomenon where people wake-up totally frozen from the eyeballs down, unable even to make a noise, and they frequently see sinister intruders and other disturbing visions,” Ascher says. “I’ve been obsessed with it ever since it used to happen with me. In my case, I saw sort of a living, 3D shadow looming over me in judgement.”

Sedlec Ossuary, The Church of Bones, is a medieval gothic church located in the Sedlec town of Kutná Hora, Czech Republic. The most notable about the church, is that the interior decor is comprised entirely of real human bones. One of the most fascinating sight is the chandelier, made of at least one of every bone in the human body. The coat of arms, also made of bones, represents the Schwarzenberg family.
According to the church's very own website, it's history started back in 1278, when a Cistercian abbot, named Henry, was sent to Jarusalem. When he came back from, he brought back with him a jar of dirt from the grounds Church of the Holy Sepulchre, at the sight where Jesus was crucified, and he spread the dirt along the ground of the cemetery that had yet to have a church. When word of this picked up, Sedlec became a highly desirable place for burial, due to the dirt having come from where Jesus was crucified. When the Black Death plague happened, many graves were being made at the cemetery, so it had to be enlarged.
According to Wikipedia, in 1400 a church was built into the cemetery, where the lower chapel would be used as an ossuary for the mass graves. In the year of 1511, the job of taking care of the bones was allegedly given to a half blind monk, but over 300 years later, the Schwarzenberg family had hired a woodcarver named František Rint to organize the excess of bones into the chapel. His signature still stands, also made with bones, by the entrance of the chapel.

Victim #1 Original Image - Found media!
Tumblr media
Oh this image. This image used to haunt little me when I first learned about the M A R I O rom hack. To say it was a creepypasta wouldn't entirely be accurate. For those not in the know, on the rom hacking website, SMW Central, a rom was uploaded that was a bit unusual, as one of the moderators, Adam, play testing would find- and he would post his reactions as he played along. The rom had no music, and all text boxes were replaced with messages such as "I hate you" and "This is the selfish way out". After defeating the first koopaling, the game would show Mario with the Yoshi egg outside of the castle and blowing up, like usual in the game. Only, instead of the Yoshi egg thanking Mario, the text box read, "Victim #1. Eyeballs were unable to be found. The victim was found laying on her carpet. Causes of death unknown, hand marks with unidentifiable fingerprints were found all over the corpse." Along with the rom, was a text file, and when converted would show this image.
Except, that's only the most popular use of the image, and also how the image came to be known as "Victim #1". The image came far before the eerie rom hack, and actually originates from a 4chan post.
Tumblr media
And it was a start to an ARG. The among things like sound files that gave hints to their debut album's themes, the biggest hint is the file name was actually found to be a Myspace ID for an industrial metal band called Common Man Down, with the lead singer being Jordan Davis. As it would turn out in another post, Jordan Davis revealed he made this entire ARG simply to experiment with his creative ideas. So, that's cool. He would also explain that the image was heavily distorted and edited in Gimp. So he'd be able to give us the original image he used, right? Well, no, unfortunately. Of course it was lost to time, and this image wasn't even supposed to "blow up" in the first place. All he could offer was that it was a Japanese girl in makeup from a black metal type of photoshoot that he found on google way back when, he just cropped and edited it "to hell".
Eventually, a discord user by the name of G O D had found the image, without much of a known explanation for how they found it, to which the image was forwarded to Jordan Davis, and he would confirm with "Holy Fuck ... I can 100% say yes, this is the original", finally ending the 14 year search for the image. Finally here it is.
Tumblr media
It turned out, it was a person cosplaying the singer Kyo from the band Dir En Grey. The image does completely match up, as you can see the shapes of the fingers line up with the placements of the shadows on the "Victim #1" image, what bit of hair isn't cropped out follows the same shape, and most notably the makeup under the eye matches with the mass of darkness below "Victim #1" eye.
As someone who was scared by the M A R I O "creepypasta" (actually, it was a small piece to a larger ARG that was made out of spite because the creator made a rom that was poorly received) when I had watched a Youtuber talking about it, finally seeing a close to the image has been greatly satisfying. From theories of a real corpse to a photoshopped mango, to a Fatal Frame ghost, it's nice to see that all along it was just some spooky looking cosplayer, and all with the confirmation from the guy who made the edit. For some time, the creepiest part to me wasn't that it was a pretty shocking image, but that there wasn't a very clear source on what the original image was. Younger me can finally be satisfied.

Free
It was on the lawn of a small white bungalow. By the road. There was a cardboard sign taped to it, with the word “FREE” written on it. We passed it a couple of times one weekend and decided that if we saw it again on our way back that we’d load it into the car and take it home with us.
And that’s how it ended up in our house. And that’s when everything started - the sounds, the whispering. The smell. We discussed throwing it out or burning it in the yard in our fire pit. But I think we both knew that it would only make things worse.
So we’re going to put it out on the curb. With a sign. Just like they did.
