In the spring, if we ever get one, I would try picnicking with you at a park like I did when I was a kid

When it gets cold out we can share scarves and wear boots into town to look through records, I’ll be looking at you.

We won’t buy coffee to go a lot, who can afford it, but I’ll know to tell them how you like it while you find a parking spot.

We won’t wear couple’s costumes on halloween but we’ll go together anyway

And when it’s night time I’ll brush my secrets into your hair

How much love I have to give,

How much you’d hope I’d accept in return.

When we don’t feel like talking, I’ll tap your elbow and kiss your chin goodbye as I go to work.

If I get dizzy, I’ll cross my legs and you can watch in the corner of your eyes;

When the sun rises, it will feel like the first time every time I’m awake to see it;

You’ll look beautiful to me slightly drooling in a deep sleep while sunlight bleeds through the half-closed blinds.

You run warm and I get chilly but sweat in my sleep if it’s too much, so I’ll stay a half foot away from you but capture a leg in my feet to know you’re still there.

If you make me dinner, I’ll wash the dishes in the sink, let me do it this time; I’ll make too much breakfast in the morning to have enough to share.

I find myself wanting to be soft and quiet and maybe reserved though not in a cold way

I want to be me within myself so that the world can learn about me at the same time as I learn it

I hope small smiles will come naturally from conversations of impromptu nature

I want to talk to train passengers and music enthusiasts

I would love a book club that contains few but harbours much

I think there is more to life but in a way that does not discount what already is.

the reason it is necessary to educate yourself on colonialism and specifically on settler colonialism is that it is very easy to be stupid and think about asymmetric power as bad strategic decisions in a war, like the average blue-check replying "FAFO" under every palestinian death toll. there is some kind of comfort in believing that a colonial power can be out-strategized or appealed to and that palestinians somehow have been making the same strategic mistakes for 75 years which is why they're being genocided (this is what stupid people believe and evil people are trying very desperately to get stupid people to believe)

but once you understand it is a colonial struggle and not a war, patterns begin to emerge. no colonized people "lost" a war because no colonized people have ever asked for a war nor have they engaged in one. colonialism imposes war upon indigenous people. colonizers come to you in your home, where you are a civilian, and force a fighter out of you. every civilian is now engaged in an existential struggle simply due to the bad luck of existing in a home coveted by colonizers.

many complexities have been manufactured to disguise this simple truth. but across the world—in canada, in algeria, in south africa, in the united states, in australia, in lebanon, in the philippines, in hawaii, in puerto rico, in argentina, in sudan, in india, in every region that has experienced colonialism (and that is almost every region in the world) this remains the base truth of it. and it is also instinctively why everyone recoils at the images of idf soldiers gleefully dancing on the ruins of gaza. it doesn't look like victory in war, does it? there's no honor nor achievement in it. the more they kill, the ease with which they do it, more obvious it is. it looks like what it is.

if you want to actually materially address child abuse, the single most important thing you can do to start is give children the legally enforceable right to leave any situation they no longer want to be in.

church, extracurriculars, summer camps, school classes, their biological family's houses. notably, these are the places that child abuse is enabled by the child's inability to just fucking leave if they need to. they can't walk out of church if their youth pastor touches them inappropriately; they'll get punished for leaving. if they walk out of their house because their dad hits them, the cops pick them up and give them right back to their dad.

children need the legal autonomy to leave abusive situations in order to even begin to usefully materially address child abuse.

I always roll my eyes at posts about what "true punk" is/was and how it was always a left-wing thing because, like, the Sex Pistols were on of the first popular punk rock bands and they were recognized right from the start as posers who had no coherent politics beyond trying to shock people
