okay so recap: nursey wants to be a hipster, dex actually wants to try and get drafted but nursey won’t let him speak, and chowder… doesn’t want to think about it
Jack’s picked up a few
things over the years, so he’s not hopeless around the kitchen. At least
not anymore. There’s absolute comfort in knowing that if Y then Z.
This is true with anything in life—from hockey to love—and the kitchen
is no exception. Of course, the Y changes; sometimes it’s butter and
flour turning into a loaf of bread, other times it is chicken and water
becoming soup. Magic and spice. Jack’s now acquainted enough with the
kitchen alchemy that eluded him in college that one might even say they
are friends.
Bitty’s domain might be baked goods, but Jack likes cooking
whenever he can. When Jack cooks and partakes of this alchemy, he
finds comfort in the little things. Brushing the dirt off mushrooms,
zesting a lemon, sorting beans. He finds a rhythm and smiles as he works
through steps—part muscle memory, part kitchen god. Well, a demigod at
most. He makes big hearty meals for his husband: cipaille, pig and pea soup, meatball ragout. Jack’s loath to admit that he’s, yet again, just like his father.
Jack smiles as he places a fragrant plate of pâté chinois in front of Bitty.
“Is this a shepherd’s pie?” he asks.
“Close,” Jack replies. “Try it.”
Jack sits and watches him take a big forkful.
“Mmm, delicious,” Bitty beams.
Jack
nods and digs in, already thinking of what else to make that’ll put another
smile on his husband’s face.
He eats, daydreaming of chopping and dicing and
stirring.
When will we find out about your work with Ngozi? I’m so excited/happy for you! :’)
i’m not actually working w her, she just gives me career tips from time to time! and she’s been pretty instrumental in me getting into comics so i’m eternally grateful lol
i haven’t quite stuck the landing on everything lately but i didn’t mind how this drawing was going, so it got some colour. one of the things i like about drawing fan art is that it levels up your skills way faster than you might otherwise go. i think it’s because you’re trying poses/muscles/angles that normally you’d be like ‘no thank you’
Hello, i'm a huge fan of all the fics you do (you're a Zimbits GOD) Could i ask for #13 of the fluff list? Zimbits, of course
Thank you for waiting so patiently for me to fulfill this prompt (“I wish we could live together already”) from this list from forever ago! I hope you enjoy the fluff!
The opening notes of “Halo” jolt Bitty into consciousness. When he shifts to reach for his phone—he can hear it but he can’t see it—the book he’s been reading for thesis research slides from his chest to the floor. Ugh. He fell asleep while studying again. He has got to stop doing this.
He finally finds his phone, twisted up in his sheets, and answers quickly before Jack can hang up. The last time Bitty looked at the time, before he fell asleep, it was after midnight.
“Hey, Bits,” Jack says. “Got your text to call when I got home. Did I wake you?”
“Hi, Sweetheart.” Bitty yawns. “I might’ve fallen asleep for a little bit. Studying, you know?”
Jack chuckles. “Well, if you’re studying, don’t let me keep you,” he chirps.
“No, no!” Bitty can’t help grinning even as he feels like he should be taking offense. School just barely started, and not everybody has Jack Zimmermann’s thesis work ethic! He just needs a little time to settle in. “How’re you feeling?” he asks, changing the subject. “That hit you took in the second period looked bad.”
“Not too bad. Ribs are a little sore.”
“Are you—”
“’m icing right now. You didn’t stay up just to check up on me, did you?”
“No! Well, a little, maybe. I always want to talk about your game. But I wanted to talk when you got home because I can’t find my green button down shirt. Did I leave it?”
“Let me check.” Bitty hears Jack grunt as he gets up, then the sound of drawers opening and closing until Jack confirms, yes, the shirt in question is there. “Also, two pairs of shorts, that sweatshirt of mine you like, and your fuzzy socks.”
“Well, darn it all.” Bitty sighs. “I was gonna wear that shirt to my thesis meeting with Professor Atley this week. I thought it was in the laundry.”
“I can iron it,” Jack suggests.
“I appreciate that, Sweetpea, but I still won’t be able to come pick it up before my meeting on Wednesday. And before you even suggest it, don’t you dare bring it over. You have too much goin’ on yourself to spend that much time driving back and forth. I’ll wear something else.”
“What if I want to?” Jack asks petulantly. “I miss you.”
People raging about Check Please being “too happy” clearly either have a very specific picture of what a mlm romance looks like or are just looking for reasons to be mad because there’s queer “angst” all throughout the series, involving multiple characters, especially in the earliest chapters and arcs. “Too happy” is getting into a non-toxic relationship two-thirds of the way into the entire story and not getting killed? In a story where one character holds another character during his anxiety attacks in the dark, the same character who was in a toxic relationship and recovered from an overdose??? Are these people like “uhhhhh Jack’s body image issues and the homophobia Bitty faced aren’t real because we don’t see them in excruciating detail :/ ”.
