i think that the way tumblr and twitter at large interact with media—trope-lenses, romantic shipping, memes, incorrect quote dialogues, aesthetics, opinion echochambers, discourse about whether a piece of media is good based on whether it is ‘safe’ and harmless by virtue of showing nothing bad— is inane. seeing media this way sanitises, cauterises, and makes fiction barren and superficial. you are not allowing yourself to be moved by art or literature anymore, only forcing your will on insisting it reflect a world you want. media has become a means of self-expression—where what you engage with says something about you as a consumer— which of course means that now there are trendy and non trendy ways to interact with media that keep changing, and these different ways of engagement separate people into factions based solely on the media they consume, which is ridiculous. life and stories and people are not like this; not neat lists of good and bad to quickly categorise to be saved the work of thorough, in-depth judgment and understanding. i’m annoyed that i let site culture convince me this all was normal. it’s absolutely not. many of you are misguided. some of you are just stupid though

The lack of interest in the latest Skam France season is very interesting. I have watched some of the seasons and i don’t think it is the greatest show or remake out there, i enjoy watching the skam’s because of the format they are in and its easy to watch. 

That being said, Bilal’s season is really touching on something we haven’t seen before in this series. the struggle of the working class and people living in poverty in “developed” countries is not talked about much, especially in a tv show for teens. 

I saw people interacting in the tag much more for tiffs season a character seemingly hated by most fans (i think this was a strange form of misogyny but i digress) than Bilal’s season. 

from what i’ve watched so far, Bilal is a soulful and complex character, a long with his younger brother. They are navigating a world in which they are expected to become adults before their time and the embarrassment and shame that comes from not having money. 

i’m not sure what it says about the audience abandoning this story and character, but i fear its not good.

the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible

because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person 

from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating

it’s fucked up.

one of my favourite things about skam and some of its remakes is the subtle acting. i particularly think SKAM, DRUCK and Skam NL nailed this (most of the time) you never feel like its too much. But my goodness this season of wtfock is so poorly acted. i’m not sure if its the script, the directing or the actress but its almost painful to watch. everything feels SO forced. its lost that feeling of skam and i think wtfock struggled with that anyway. oh well at least druck is doing good stuff...

Crazy how quiet everybody was and is about chechnya. Like lgbt people are being tortured and murdered by chechen officials and by their own family and people. When the news first broke out in 2017 there was barely any posts on tumblr despite the fact that we found out a literal gay purge was happening and now the documentary about it was released two days ago and im one of the only people doing posts about it here on tumblr. Honestly the most heartbreaking part about the documentary wasnt all the fucked up things but the fact despite these horrible fucking things happening nobody cares barely anybody is talking about it. Youd think a website with huge amounts of lgbt users would make this trend but no when you go in the tags theres literally less than ten new posts. Putin isnt gonna do shit about it the lgbt chechens and the people evacuating them need support from other countries russia is not gonna fucking help them. Every day this fucking site is filled with stupid lgbt discourse and shit that doesnt fucking matter but when an actual gay purge happens and actual people are being murdered and tortured yall decide to be quiet and do absolutely nothing.

one time in history class our teacher gave out  survey sheets to see what we enjoyed or wanted to change in the class. I wrote

 ‘to learn about something other than Americans committing war crimes or Britain winning wars, how about British colonialism?’

the next day my mum got a phone call from my school and my history teacher expressed her worry about my lack of dedication to education and how i was being disrespectful of the syllabus. 

we are literally raised on patriotism and lies and if we dare question it we are punished.
