An acyclic painting I did looking at how the flowers reflecting through the glass when I put my camera inside the glass. I tried to capture vibrations of the colours through the glass. My boyfriend got me these flowers for the kitchen in apartment in Limerick. I met my boyfriend the first week college started and he's been rock from the beginning, he shows me all the good spots in Limerick including my favourite.. The Locke, the Locke burgers are my absolute favourite and this particular night the lights added a really nice reflection of colours onto the wrapping below.
I decided to try some cut out printing on Friday, from the edited version I made. I used purple acrylic paint for variation as I only have black ink. The paper I used was too thin and the paint went through the gaps so I had to use white gesso to clean it up. It was fun to decide which parts I want to be white and purple but also confusing because I had to separate the gaps so they didn't all look connected.
I tried to do a lino cut but I only had one lino cutter with the smallest bluntest blade ever, hopefully if I order some larger lino cutter heads I can finish it .
This semester I spent reflecting on my memories since starting college last year, I mainly focused on the positive aspects of starting a new chapter of my life just to keep my motivation going.
I developed my new found love for digital art and really enjoyed editing images I took using Photoshop(Gimp) and Microsoft Paint. Which I could also use for my print ideas.
My primary sources are the photographs I took since starting college reflecting on how they made me feel at that time since starting college. I spent a lot of time working on the photographs I took of myself standing in front of the puddle because I thought of myself reflecting and looking back to start of college and how excited I was to start and of course the actual puddle reflects itself which fit in well with my theme.
Overall I'm happy with the work I have created in this short enough time frame.
Following the workshops I did on Tuesday with Des, Fiona and Suzannah, I decided to combine some of the images that I took when I started in Limerick first(except from the geli plate print I did at the start of this semester)
Fiona showed us the basic techniques for Photoshop on Adobe which I found very interesting in how you could layer different images so I decided to try it myself playing around with different settings and editing tools on the app Gimp. I made three different ones and this is the first one. I think merging the images together was quite effective!
I took a picture of my cupboard when I first moved into the apartment for some reason, probably when I sent everyone in the family group chat a video of the apartment when I moved in first, clearly very excited to moving in. The picture Justin reminded me of how excited I was so I wanted to create something from that.
I have used Microsoft paint once again, I can't seem to get enough of it!! I included my phone in it and the picture I had as my wallpaper at the time which was a picture I took from the top of the ferris wheel in the city.
For print we were asked to make puppets for our zoom group calls, one being how we look and the other how we would like to like look during a zoom call and attach them to lollypop sticks.
I used monoprint for the first one and just marker and pen for the next one.
I did a monoprint of the kitchen in my student apartment where I spent most of the year in, a lot of memories in this place, bitter considering I would have loved to have been out socialising and going to clubs meeting new people, hopefully next year things will be different.
I decided to use Microsoft paint for this piece and I used the scissors tool to cut around the shape and placed them on top of each other overlapping then.
Hallway of thoughts/inspiration trapped inside our head, we just need the key to find them, or feelings of isolation during these times..
I had two sheets of newsprint which I used to get rid of excess ink with from the monoprints with Des. I liked how the pages dried and stuck together, I tore away back most of the second sheet and found that it reminded me of my previous I edited of myself standing in front of a puddle, I used oil pastels over the ink and I like the combination of the paper with the oil pastels, it was fun to play around with.
These are the monoprints I made based on the stories Des gave us last Thursday. I definitely used way to much ink in the first one where I combined all three stories together but next time at least I know not to use too much!
I did the monoprint /storytelling workshop with Des yesterday. Des gave us three small stories and for each one we had to draw what we thought was most important from them to translate into a design. We also had to draw two objects separately in different sizes and mediums and they had to fit within a square. Which was challenging but fun to do. It made us aware of the space and how to combine two objects together to tell a story or convey what it is we were trying to say about the objects.
I found the thumbnail sketches very useful for ideas for a print and I will definitely be doing more of them to design a monoprint later on.
I used these wipes to wipe my geli plate clean with but I decided to dry them out after because I loved how the paint looked on them. I hope to sew into these or print onto them later.
