Going back in that era and revoking it may have done some good. Maybe. But I think going back a few more years, when it was simmering under the surface and everyone could feel it coming would be better. Changing ideologies, maybe some reassurance, maybe not letting the few people control everything, I don't know what would have worked. But maybe if we would have never parted, and maybe if we had managed better across communities, then it would have been a different country today altogether. Maybe we would have avoided all the bloodshed, the genocides, the militancy...or maybe it would have been worse. We never know what could have been, but yes, I would want to go back and change things in the course of time. Today though? Too late. So much has happened. And I think it's hard to adopt the concept of "our ancestors' wars are not our own" when each side keeps baring teeth.
Yeah I agree, it's too late.
Going back in time, I don't think we would have to work too hard either. The common people on either side never wanted the Partition. It was just a few with too much power.

It’s impossible now but I want us to get to a point where the borders become relaxed (impossible) and socialist (impossible) and religious communities and local practices be protected (impossible) sorry I’m so pessimistic 😭
and yet this is exactly what has been promised in the Constitution. we must stop settling for less.

Pakistani here and i voted yes!. I know its never going to become a reality but one can dream of a united south asia ,similar to the EU where free movement of goods ,people and services would be guaranteed. I have friends in India and it would be lovely to be able to visit them.
Yes, there has been conflict in the past, but it's important to look ahead and value each other as individuals rather than becoming bigoted because that's what extremists want

(bangladeshi here!) my bet's on misclicking bc i've yet to see people on tumblr spout this nonsense but the general fundamentalist consensus of wanting to be reunited with pakistan unfortunately remains a prominent thing over here in extremist circles still. normal people have this tendency of idealizing pakistani fashion+beauty standards, in my experience, and on facebook there are constant attempts at facilitating conflict using religion by shibir/hefajat/jaamat e islami people at every given opportunity. bnp (leading opposing party), for example, has called for the complete boycott of indian products but remains completely silent about the israeli ones bc speaking against that would incite the usa's ire. some of the most extreme cases of fb propaganda i've seen this year includes, believe it or not, questioning the country's sovereignty itself when it's a lot more appropriate to question the dire straits personal or political freedom is in over here given the place's uhhh. gradual descent into becoming a one party state.
thank you! religious fundamentalism has truly ruined everything for the subcontinent .

If I could go back to 1947 and revoke it I would. But it's too late now

I think instead of being one subcontinental state, what may work is how Egypt-Palestine-Lebanon had been before. I saw they had buses and they would travel throughout these states. How wonderful that would be for people who had to flee during partition.
Absolutely agree with this. We need freeer borders!

In an universe the partition is revoked, I don't think certain world powers would be too happy with it. Maybe I am paranoid or don't understand politics, but if America still has the power, it has now, I feel like they will interfere and then it won't go well for the subcontinent ( it will be worse than it already is right now with american meddling)
Interesting! would love for you to expand more. For example, why do you feel America would be unhappy with it?

Idk even if no one materially suffers it's still very unfair to Bangladeshis from an ethical point of view
I agree. The poll results reflect that too

Given that the transition is smooth and done with care and everyone's lives generally improve from it and no one materially suffers because of the change, I'd want it. (I'm indian)
Thank you :)

Taliban has announced that women in Afghanistan will be stoned to death in public for adultery.
The Afghan Taliban’s supreme leader, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, has issued a disturbing proclamation, vowing to implement brutal punishments against women in public. In a chilling voice message broadcasted on state television, Akhundzada directly addressed Western officials, dismissing concerns about violating women’s rights by stoning them to death.
"You say it’s a violation of women’s rights when we stone them to death," Akhundzada stated. "But we will soon implement the punishment for adultery. We will flog women in public. We will stone them to death in public," he declared, marking his most severe rhetoric since the Taliban seized control of Kabul in August 2021.
These grim statements, purportedly from Akhundzada, who has seldom been seen in public except for a few outdated portraits, emanate from Afghanistan’s state TV, now under Taliban control. Akhundzada is believed to be located in southern Kandahar, the Taliban's stronghold. Despite early assurances of a more moderate regime, the Taliban swiftly reverted to harsh public penalties reminiscent of their previous rule in the late 1990s, including public executions and floggings. The United Nations has vehemently criticised these actions, urging the Taliban to cease such practices.
In his message, Akhundzada asserted that the women's rights advocated by the international community contradicted the Taliban’s strict interpretation of Islamic Sharia law. Akhundzada emphasised resilience among Taliban fighters, urging them to oppose women's rights persistently. "I told the Mujahedin that we tell the Westerners that we fought against you for 20 years and we will fight 20 and even more years against you," he stated.
His remarks have sparked outrage among Afghans, with many calling for increased international pressure on the Taliban.
"The money that they receive from the international community as humanitarian aid is just feeding them against women," lamented Tala, a former civil servant from Kabul.
"As a woman, I don’t feel safe and secure in Afghanistan. Each morning starts with a barrage of notices and orders imposing restrictions and stringent rules on women, stripping away even the smallest joys and extinguishing hope for a brighter future," she added.
"We, the women, are living in prison," Tala emphasised, "And the Taliban are making it smaller for us every passing day."
Taliban authorities have also barred 30,000 girls from returning to secondary school for the third consecutive year. University doors were closed to women in December 2022 and participation in the workforce is heavily restricted.

Welcome to the preparatory phase of Declared Fascist Hindu Rastra. Indian State has always been a Brahmanical Fascist State, now it is being declared to be one with implementing CAA-NRC-NPR in order to snatch the citizenship of Indian Muslims under the garb of "providing nationality to the persecuted minorities of neighbouring countries." We're in 2024 and today is 28th day of March. According to today's The Hindu this is the main headline. "Priest can give CAA eligibility certificate, says govt. helpline: It is mandatory certificate to be submitted along with other documents by the applicants on the portal; as per the rules, the certificate can be issued by a 'locally reputed community institution'. This is the final nail on the coffin of a rotten 'secular' democracy.
