thinking about maverick having a spot on the wall in his hanger for postcards from ice. he has his wall for goose and bradley, keeps them pinned up like family photos to look at, but the things from ice get their own spot. how they both spent years being stationed in different places and yet they still manage to become something more and one night they’re back in cali together on leave and ice is getting ready to ship out and he just says ‘send me a postcard baby’ in a way that’s probably supposed to be a joke but that’s when they start. he sends one and gets one back, over time ends up having a little stack of them. they’re covered in doodles and drawings from ice, all signed off from him and eventually as they get older turn into love ice and then love tom and when he finally gets a space to call his own the first thing he does is pin them up on the wall. and a thousand miles away the top drawer in ice’s desk is full of postcards from maverick
