Sweet Dreams

Find me. You already know who I am.

I woke up to a soothing darkness. Those words haunting me in my dreams. Was the vision trying to tell me something? Or was it just what I wanted to hear? Either way… that voice… it seemed so familiar, yet so… I didn’t even want to entertain the idea. I just wanted it all to be over. And now it could be. We finally had all the relics. We had successfully retrieved all of them. I don’t know how, but we had. Despite everything, I felt myself smiling.

This will be over soon, I thought.

My smile died when I felt something move on my side, and as my vision adjusted to the darkness, I realized Rhysand was laying down beside me… Looking at me… Were we in the same bed?

You are letting your guard down around him pretty easily… you haven’t even looked where you are…

I quickly scanned the room and noticed we were alone in a tent. My cheeks started to burn.

Focus, I reminded myself. How did you get here?

Somewhere on the way back, I might have fallen asleep in Rhysand’s arms. I was incredibly exhausted, so really it was no surpri…

“Rhysand?”, I whispered as I felt his hand on my hair. “You were smiling. What were you thinking of?”, he asked.

I blinked and let my body relax as his fingers caressed my hair.

“We have them all”, I whispered. “We do”, he whispered back at me and I just couldn’t help but to keep looking at those beautiful violet eyes of him.

I breathed and closed my eyes.

Focus.

“We’re almost there”, he said.

I opened my eyes.

“Then let’s go. Let’s finish this. We only have to put them together and—”

He pushed me back on the bed the moment I started to get up.

“You have to rest”, he said as he looked at me with worry in his eyes. “But it’s only the final—”, he interrupted me. “We don’t know what’s waiting there now that we have all the relics, (Y/N). I don’t think it’ll be easy. For now rest, get some energy and…”, he paused.

Then sighed.

“Tomorrow is a special night for my Court and I’m obliged to attend. So this will have to wait a day more”, he said.

I frowned.

“But—

“That is my final word”, he said, startling me a bit, “and don’t you dare think for a second that this is not as important to me as it is for you because it is. I want nothing more than to see… to see her again, but I have obligations too and I’ve already missed a lot of them while going on this quest. So for now please rest and heal your wounds. We’ll finish this tomorrow”.

I fisted my hands.

Kill him. You have everything you need to finish this now. He’s worthless to you now that you’ve gotten what you wanted from him. Kill him. You don’t need him anymore. Kill him. Take his magic away from him. Do it. He’s just on your way. You can end this now. Without him. Do it. Kill him. KILL HIM.

I looked at Rhysand’s violet eyes. He was looking at me warily. As if he was waiting for something bad to happen. I just closed my eyes and grabbed his hand. I say nothing as I let those terrible thoughts dissipate from my mind.

Rhysand is good, I remember myself inside my mind. Rhysand helped you. Rhysand protected you. Rhysand cares for you. Rhysand saved you. Rhysand—

“Is the most handsome High Lord”, Rhysand whispered.

I opened my eyes, terrified that he knew what I was thinking about.

“You think very loudly sometimes”.

I felt the blood on my face drain. What other thoughts had he heard?

“I don’t blame you, look at me. I’m perfect”, he said with a grin.

And I couldn’t help but laugh at that.

Yes, yes you are.

We stayed there, laying on the bed, hands entwined with each other, without saying a word.

And, after almost 30 years, I found myself dreaming. Dreaming, dreaming about the moon and the sun… together. And it was beautiful.

I don’t normally read anything about Rhys because he is [far] from my favorite character. But the Night Series is soooooo good. I read it all in one night, im just shshhsjshdhsjsjsis. You know? LMFAOOOOOO. Anyway it’s so good, and I can’t wait to read more.
