Hello! For Raine, I noticed she has this pattern on her sleeves, I was curious if there was a reason behind the design choice? It's different from what I would expect (either a patch or whole ring around the arm) so my brain just started overthinking haha

her outfit is based off traditional folk clothing from Europe! since she belongs to a fantasy setting, I drew inspo from different cultures but the pattern in her sleeves is particularly based off traditional Romanian clothing (thought much more simplified to make it easy for me to draw haha)

as to the reason for which it's only on one side of her sleeve, it is meant to be embroidery! there are definitely examples of patterns that fit your description (that is to say, that are embroidered all around the sleeve) but also some others that are more alike to Raine's design. I believe it all depends on style differences across regions and, probably, practicality. traditional clothing used to be hand-embroidered, which takes an enormous effort
