Thancred is getting ready to leave Miyhu for the night, but as he's getting redressed he realises something about the adventurer.

Thancred stretched with a yawn, his back popping loudly. Spending the evening with that adventurer was always tiring, although probably more so for them, he mused as he looked down at the naked Miqo'te clinging to his waist, sound asleep with the occasional quiet snore.

He should get up, get dressed, and get back to work, but the siren call of sleep was working far harder than his desire to return to his responsibilities. Instead, he sat there, idly running a hand through the soft blond and pink hair that he'd untied at some point during their activities, gently scratching at the base of those cute fluffy ears when he nuzzled further into Thancred's thigh.

The Miqo'te, Miyhu, he reminded himself, his name is Miyhu, was as affectionate in his sleep as he was awake, it seemed, as his tail curled up higher around Thancred's thigh. They had only met up a few times so far, but each was enjoyable in their own way, especially the times that ended with the two of them in bed together.

It started the same way each time, Miyhu always listened attentively, those large yellow eyes fixed on him, and the moment Thancred was within range, they would touch his arm, his hands, a slight caress or a gentle squeeze. And then after a few drinks they would almost be in his lap, laughing loudly at whatever dumb joke he'd managed to find, their hands on his chest, face inches from nuzzling into his neck.

And who was Thancred to deny such an invitation? He'd drag them up to their room in the inn, the jealous gaze of other men on them betraying that they'd also been in that position, or at least wanted to, he knew he wasn't the first to bed the adventurer, and then they'd have some fun for a few bells until Miyhu was too tired to continue, and fell asleep wrapped around him, barely giving him the chance to get up and clean the two of them up. Thancred was just glad that they were usually coming in from a day full of running around doing menial tasks and killing monsters, he dreaded thinking of how long they'd last coming at him fully rested. Although… no, that is a thought for another day. And possibly a joint venture.

Miyhu let out a cute little huff in his sleep when Thancred's hand stilled in his hair, and Thancred chuckled, "insatiable, aren't you?" He spoke quietly to them, resuming his gentle petting. It was the least he could do for them, seeing as he was moments from once again leaving them alone and cold in the bed.

A moment turned into several, and then that turned into half a bell before Thancred finally relented and gathered the energy to pull himself from their grip, replacing himself with a pillow that Miyhu's sleeping form instantly curled up against, a quiet whine of displeasure that had Thancred pause, making sure they weren't actually awake before continuing his task of finding his clothes in the dark room.

After a few moments of picking through clothes on the floor, loosely folding Miyhu's and piling them on the dresser for him, Thancred had found the majority of his clothing. He could probably go without one pair of smallclothes until he could get back to the Waking Sands.

Dropping his clothes on the end of the bed to get dressed, he watched Miyhu as they slept, noting the way their soft expression had changed to lightly furrowed brows, and his fingers grasped repeatedly at the pillow. He'd seen him do that before, Thancred was sure, and as he pulled his trousers on, (oh, that is gonna chafe bad if he's not careful,) he remembered their first meeting, at the Sultantree after defeating that voidsent, Miyhu had made that motion while checking if the Sultana had sustained any injuries, even when he wasn't even touching her. A sign of his distress, maybe?

Thancred frowned as he pulled his belt around, Miyhu had touched her arm while checking on her until she made it known she didn't want the contact and he'd backed off. He also did the same with Momodi, Thancred realised, getting close and touchy feely to her while she delivered new tasks for them, and he's sure he's seen them do the same with that female mage he accompanied out of Ul'dah the other day. Nothing that would be strange to Thancred, as he did the same, if he hadn't known that Miyhu very explicitly held no attraction to women in any capacity.

Miyhu acted the same regardless of who he was talking to unless they told them to back off, or seemed uncomfortable with it.

Thancred's hands faltered on his belt, staring at Miyhu's sleeping form. Had he misread their signals? He'd just assumed that they, much like himself, had a high sex drive and didn't mind where the pleasure came from, but if they were giving those signals to any adventurer they passed when they had no inclination to do anything with them, then were they actually those signals?

Maybe he should talk to them about it, if he didn't realise the signals he gave then Thancred was definitely misreading them, and maybe the sex wasn't even wanted. He put his knee on the bed, shuffling to make sure he was close enough to Miyhu as he reached out. He should definitely talk to them. Miscommunication around sex is not what he wants, and if he was being pushy because Miyhu doesn't seem to actually know how to deny anyone anything, then there's the chance he could be pushing them away, and Thancred found that possibility one that he didn't even want to consider.

"Miyhu," he called softly, resting a gentle hand on their shoulder, "Miyhu, wake up."

Thankfully, the yellow eyes cracked open slowly rather than all at once, as it tended to with adventurers, and so Thancred didn't have to end up flat on his back on the floor in a rather unsexy way.

Miyhu made a small, sleepily confused chirpy noise as he stretched slightly, hands immediately coming to rest against Thancred's thigh.

Before they could fall back asleep, far too comfortable with Thancred's presence than he felt they should be, Thancred gently patted their hand saying, "Miyhu, I need to ask you something, it's important."

Their notched ear flicked at the word 'important', and very slowly they pulled themself up into a sitting position, leaning against Thancred with a small whine.

Almost unconsciously, Thancred ran his hand down their back, lightly scratching down to the base of his tail, letting him arch into his still bare chest as he considered how to approach this conversation. It would have to be bluntly, of course, subtlety flew over the Miqo'te's head at the best of times, let alone when they had just woken up.

"Why do you touch me?" Was the start he settled on for lack of anything better.

Miyhu hummed in confusion, tilting his head up from where they had rested it against his collar, "'cause is nice?"

Thancred gave them a small nod, "when we're drinking, and you end up all but on my lap, why do you touch me like that?"

Miyhu actually moved back a bit, not enough to break contact but enough to tilt his head further, "'cause… it's nice?"

He nodded at them again, giving a small smile of encouragement, not wanting them to think they're saying the wrong thing, "and when you sit with Momodi, stroking her arm, why do you touch her like that?"

Miyhu shrank back a bit, his voice small, "... It's nice?"

Thancred raised his free hand, gently caressing their cheek, and chuckled as they nuzzled into his hand even as they continued to stare up at him with wide eyes, "alright, when you do this with people, do you do it with the intention of getting sex?"

Miyhu blinked at him, confusion settling on their face, "no? It's- it's just 'cause it's nice?"

Thancred nodded once more, trying to quell the doubt on their face, "when you touch people like that it makes people think that you're coming onto them, that you're doing it because you want to have sex with them," he clarified.

Miyhu stared at him for a moment before their eyes widened, "oh," was all he said as multiple past encounters suddenly made sense to them.

Thancred tried not to laugh at the dumb expression the most likely touch starved adventurer gave, and continued on with his questioning, "when this happens, do you actually want to have sex?"

Miyhu tilted his head from Thancred's hand, "yeah?"

Despite feeling a wave of relief, Thancred still pushed on, "you don't just agree to it because you don't like saying no to people?"

Miyhu shook his head vigorously, "I like sex! It's fun!" They exclaimed, almost pushing themself onto Thancred's lap with the force of trying to make him understand.

He chuckled again, "alright, alright, a little bit louder and I think everyone as far as the palace will hear you," he pressed a quick kiss to Miyhu's lips as they pouted at him, "I'm just making sure that when you have sex it's because you want it, and not just because the other guy wants it."

Miyhu shook his head again, smiling up at Thancred, "nah, it's been real nice ever since I got to Ul'dah!"

The phrasing of that sentence gave Thancred pause, and despite his desire to press them, he didn't think he was really in the position to comfort any trauma that may be lurking there, so instead he merely ruffled the hair between their ears before asking, "so would you mind if we had less sex?"

Miyhu started fidgeting, not meeting his eyes, "that's okay…" he said, and before Thancred could say anything else they continued, looking up at him through their long eyelashes, "do you not wanna cuddle anymore?"

Thancred couldn't help the fond sigh he gave as he pulled the small Miqo'te fully onto his lap, squeezing him tightly, "it would be my pleasure, Miyhu," he murmured into their hair, "you don't have to change anything you do, I was just asking because I now know that you aren't some sort of succubus trying to kill me through my dick," he joked, smiling as Miyhu snorted loudly with laughter, burying their head in his chest to try and keep it quiet.

Once calmed, they wriggled minutely on his lap and looked up at him with those wide eyes again before asking, "can we go back to sleep now?"

"One last thing," Thancred said, watching their tail thump once, "from now on, we won't have sex unless you tell me you want to, okay? Doesn't matter to me how you say it, as long as you say it, I don't want to accidentally make you feel pressured into something you don't want."

Miyhu tilted his head, "okay! I can tell you instead!" He promised, smiling.

Pleased that that was all over and done with, and everyone was still happy with each other, Thancred grinned, "and now," he said, pushing them lightly back onto the bed, watching him giggle as he settled himself back down, "sleep."

Miyhu opened his arms, silently compelling Thancred to lie down so they could cling to him, and after barely a moment of thought, he did so, pulling his trousers back off and flinging them over to about where the rest of his clothes should be, before wrapping his arms tightly around them and smiling softly at the light purr that started up.

Sure, he had a job he was supposed to be doing, but he can just tell the others that he got distracted scouting out a new recruit. It was kinda true, he was pretty certain Miyhu had the Echo, and was soon going to ask Minifilia permission to invite them to the Scions anyway.

Besides, it had been a tiring day, he deserved a few hours of sleep.
