One of my favorite hip openers I give my clients. Kettlebell Goblet squat with breathing. Here you hold a KB in front of you, squat down put your elbows inside your knees, then breathe and push your hips open with your elbows. Make sure not to keep your whole foot in contact with the floor. Hold and move around in this position for 1 min. This is Mary, she is one of my hardest workers. She suffers from MS, seeing me twice a week we work on balance, coordination, and strength. Ultimately doing strength training movements help her build strong bones, ligaments, tendons, and helps her get through her daily life much better. This is one reason I do what I do. I love to help people stay strong and have a better quality of life. Stay tuned because her goal is to get to lifting the 45lbs dumbbell for 8 reps. I think we can crush that goal. Building strength and stability in the knee joint. Most do not understand why knee joints start to hurt. Most of the time it isn't just because the knee joint wants to hurt but, it's a tracking issue. The knee only does what the muscles above and below tell it what to do. After testing I found out that this client had glute weaknesses, in particular the glute medius which is involved with single leg stabilization. This is very important because she is also a runner so single leg stabilization while in motion keeps your knee from tracking inward, which can cause grinding and damage to the knee cartilage. So here is one exercise we implemented in her program, banded lunges. The band pulls the knee inward so her glutes have to engage to keep her knee to track in line. Her running and low back pain is much better and she is getting stronger! Hitting block pulls. Most get this movement wrong. If you can block pull way more than you deadlift look at ypur set up. Are you set up in the same position you would be in if you lifted from the floor? Or do you put your hips too low, drive your knees forward and put yourself in a easier position to lift the weight? I used to be guilty of this too. Block pulls should be at your weakest position of the lift and maintain a proper hinge movement.
