greatest love language of all time is songhwa asking, "what have you done for yourself lately? what's a treat for you?" and ikjun replying (without even a moment's hesitation): "having a meal with you like this, eating with you and drinking coffee together. thats the treat i give myself."

finished tac (spoilers) and it’s insane
it’s about how power corrupts and absolute power is a ticking time bomb or maybe it’s water seeping through cupped hands, running out too quickly to do anything altruistic or otherwise meaningful.
it’s the way academia renders us immobile, the way we think we have all the answers but we’re blocked by corruption and corporations and forced to turn to each other for even the slightest bit of absolution.
it’s the cosmic frustration of trying to play god. no wonder reina mori nearly returned to the earth. no wonder elizabeth rhodes drove herself to sickening righteousness. no wonder nico de varona became the sacrificial lamb.
it’s the inherent eroticism and violence of soulmatism, what did we think would happen when corrupted souls intertwined? when elizabeth rhodes chose to cut her losses? when she ripped out the heart of gideon drake? when callum nova was nearly driven to madness after a conversation, coupling with his tristan caine-shaped obsession? when parisa kamali found a life anew but just barely?
it’s about being chosen until you’re not. it’s about six planets and dozens of moons in a barely-contained orbit; throw one out and the gravitational changes scientifically shouldn’t cause a supernova, but they do anyway.
it’s about how no one made it out, not really. because power always demands a price.

English did not just borrow words from other languages; it was stuffed to the brim with foreign influences, a Frankenstein vernacular. And Robin found it incredible, how this country, whose citizens prided themselves so much on being better than the rest of the world, could not make it through an afternoon tea without borrowed goods.

This is how colonialism works. It convinces us that the fallout from resistance is entirely our fault, that the immoral choice is resistance itself rather than the circumstances that demanded it.

“We read books to find out who we are. What other people, real or imaginary, do and think and feel... is an essential guide to our understanding of what we ourselves are and may become.” ― Ursula K. LeGuin.

remember being ten and future plans were so far away? and now you have one foot into that future and nothing seems to be right and all you want is to step back but the past keeps crumbling as soon as it's made. there's no going back, there's nothing to go back to.

The Boy and the Heron plays like dream you may have had - the characters float from moment to moment, from horrific to beautiful imagery as the story progresses, loosely connected until the final moments when the narrative threads are all brought together. It is about legacy, about grieving, and most importantly, how do you move forward.

With The Boy and the Heron, Miyazaki really said: I accept that my legacy is out of my control, that my children may not be my successors, that this tremendous monument I've built with a lifetime of toil, this fiery blessing that simply fell out of the sky, may not continue without me, In fact, it may crumble to dust, I accept it because my children and their children are alive and well, in this imperfect world, and thats enough. Yes, I accept that this is the end, but God damn, I'll go out with a bang.

Because you don't lose someone once. You lose them hearing a song that reminds you of their smile. Passing an old landmark. Laughing at a joke they would've laughed at. You lose them infinitely.
