Every person need to be taught disability history
Not the “oh Einstein was probably autistic” or the sanitized Helen Keller story. but this history disabled people have made and has been made for us.
Teach them about Carrie Buck, who was sterilized against her will, sued in 1927, and lost because “Three generations of imbeciles [were] enough.”
Teach them about Judith Heumann and her associates, who in 1977, held the longest sit in a government building for the enactment of 504 protection passed three years earlier.
Teach them about all the Baby Does, newborns in 1980s who were born disabled and who doctors left to die without treatment, who’s deaths lead to the passing of The Baby Doe amendment to the child abuse law in 1984.
Teach them about the deaf students at Gallaudet University, a liberal arts school for the deaf, who in 1988, protested the appointment of yet another hearing president and successfully elected I. King Jordan as their first deaf president.
Teach them about Jim Sinclair, who at the 1993 international Autism Conference stood and said “don’t mourn for us. We are alive. We are real. And we’re here waiting for you.”
Teach about the disability activists who laid down in front of buses for accessible transit in 1978, crawled up the steps of congress in 1990 for the ADA, and fight against police brutality, poverty, restricted access to medical care, and abuse today.
Teach about us.

corporations trying to profit off of queer people by showing their support for only one month of the year is bad
and
it’s fun to watch conservatives get pissed that they can’t shop at target anymore because the big bad rainbows will corrupt their children :(
and
the existence of rainbow capitalism in the first place proves that society is now in a place where supporting queer people is the more profitable and thus more popular opinion and that means something
are all viewpoints that can absolutely coexist

"Don't use your autism / disability / mental illness as an excuse" is supposed to refer to people who use their condition as a shield for abusive behavior. It's not a sentence you say in response to every single thing a disabled, autistic, or mentally ill person does that is annoying or inconveniencing to you.

I would want to start my own radio station. I want to specifically start a station where it's mostly female, black, and/or LGBT+ radio DJs because a lot of the radio landscape right now is mostly cishet white men unless it's a smaller local station, and we need more stations with marginalized voices at the helm. I'd also want people on the station to have full creative freedoms with their shows, too. They can play any music they want, talk about any topic they want, make any characters they want. As long as they're not like... Hateful or fucked up or something, then go for it. I'd probably run old episodes of TGDHS on it while working on new projects, too (although I'd do occasional new specials for TGDHS 'cause I do still love the characters).
Doing research for a thing everyone reblog or reply and tell me what you would do with your time if you didn’t have to work. Like if you suddenly got enough passive income to live a comfortable middle class life and you didn’t have to do a single thing to get it, what would you do all day?
If you think your answer is embaraseing anon it to me.

Standing with all of the folks over in Ireland who are fighting for the right to reproductive choice. #Repealthe8th

“should autism exist in my fantasy story?” yes. “should psychosis exist in my fantasy story?” yes. “should personality disorders exist in my fantasy story?” yes. “should ADHD exist in my fantasy story? should intellectual disabilities exist in my fantasy story? should dissociative disorders exist in my fantasy story? should trauma disorders exist in my fantasy story? should anxiety disorders exist in my fantasy story? should mood disorders exist in my fantasy story? should–”
yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
you don’t have to include their real actual names and you don’t have to have main characters with every single one of these things. But neurodivergent and mentally ill people should EXIST in fantasy stories and fantasy societies, because we exist in real life. We deserve to be acknowledged.

Gentle reminder that this phrase was originally targeted at the rich who were hoarding wealth, not people just trying to survive. The phrase has unfortunately been turned to be weaponized against people who just want a living wage by said rich people.

Gay people that you think resemble stereotypes are living, breathing human beings who are, generally, living in a way that feels authentic and meaningful to them. The fact is that a lot of stereotypes about gay people come out of the real behaviors and tendencies of real, living gay people- a lot of lesbians are in fact hairy feminists, a lot of gay men do in fact hold their wrists limply, a lot of gay and bisexual and transgender people are very visibly gender nonconforming in ways you maybe find embarrassing because it makes them stick out, but if you're embarrassed by these people that's really your own problem and your own cross to bear, not the responsibility of every single other LGBT person in the world to recognize and organize their lives around, potentially at the cost of being able to live a life that feels meaningful and healthy for them. Every single time you want to complain about a total queen you saw at pride or how everyone thinks lesbians are all manly, take a second to remember that those stereotypes come out of the lives of men and women who were physically assaulted in the streets and fired from their employment and who lost custody of their children and who were beaten for not owning and wearing enough items of properly gendered clothing and instead be grateful that some people, the queens you find embarrassing, chose to be out when they could have chosen to die in silence and would have spread themselves a lot of pain by doing so. I'm so fucking sick of watching gay people apologize for each other, and I am so so grateful for all the women who came before me who paved the way for me to be someone who owns literally no women's clothing and does not have to fear for my safety every time I leave the house and who can be open in public about the fact that I am partnered with a woman that I love.

I don't think employers should be legally allowed to ask anyone to dress up for interviews. I should be able to walk in off the street in jeans, sneakers, and a T-shirt and interview for jobs because employers are supposed to be interviewing me and my skills, training, education, and experience, not the nicest clothes in my closet.
It's discriminatory towards poor people to ask otherwise.
It's also just fucking audacious to demand that the people you need to provide the labor to keep your workplace going put on a suit and dance around like a trained monkey before you've even hired them.
