My biggest pet peeve about sustainability discourse is that, yeah, a handful of companies are fucking us all over, and yeah, we need fundamental change coming from the government. But also you need to understand that you can't have both things:

You can't have zero single use plastic and only sustainable materials and expect to be able to afford brand new clothes every month.

You can't have an increase in workers rights protections and expect to still get things you order online delivered to your house in a couple of days.

You can't have meat production reduced to the point where it's not environmental destructive and expect to be eating meat more than a couple times a week at most.

We NEED big scale change but that WILL significantly affect your lifestyle. You need to stop living in a fantasy world where fast fashion prices or eating animal products daily can ever coexist with sustainability.

#i work part time in retail and the amount of unnecessary shit products that exist is insane #and people buy that shit even though theres literally no discernible difference between product 1 ans product 2 its the same shit different #packaging #there would be ZERO downsides to lowering the amount of products #and this goes for clothes too and for littlw nicknacks and what not #so much unnecessary stuff

Being a young adult is so strange. You enter a coffee shop. The 20 year old girl waiting behind you cried all night because she just came to a new city for university and she feels so alone. if you dont want print media to die, buy physical copies of things. if you don’t want independent journalism to die, subscribe to a local newspaper. if you want more libraries and skate-parks and arcades, get a bunch of friends and call in the individual charge of your village or town or whatever and ask for one to be built and use the existing ones. if you want more native flora and fauna, start looking at the ones that already exist and how to preserve them. this is your world too. fight for it. get rid of the rot of passivity.
