Why is depression and anxiety in women not taken seriously?

She was failing college, loosing her memory, self-harming, suicidal and intrusive thoughts constantly, isolating herself, pushing her family and friends away from her, refusing to leave the house, crying herself to sleep every night, biting her nails until they bled, pulling hair out, procrastinating everything, loosing interest in all her studies and work and hobbies because “what’s the point if I’ll just ruin it or fail anyway”.

But she realised something is not right here, confided in a friend and decided to try and change but what’s the point when multiple appointments and multiple MALE doctors just told her the same thing, made her doubt herself, made her believe she was going crazy?

“You’re just premenstraul... it’ll pass”

Didn’t stop her from stepping out infront of a car a week later did it?

I feel attacked 😂

the user base of tumblr is a specific demographic of people who were ‘the smart kid’ growing up but didn’t do as well academically as they got older due to mental health struggles, were probably bullied in school and were quite lonely & introverted so they took solace in reading but now rarely pick up a book, grew up on tumblr but continued using it into adulthood unlike most of their peers who stopped using it after it lost popularity
