Sometimes I feel guilty for not using Tumblr consistently, but also sometimes I feel like it’s implicitly meant to not be used consistently.

Love the Isabelle drawing! If you're in the mood for drawing more AC characters, mind drawing the Able Sisters? They're my favorites (especially Sabel, I love how she comes out of her shell and gets more talkative the more you talk to her)
Thank you! And I’ll definitely try getting around to that some time. I don’t play the games but I’ve been getting into AC-related content a lot over recent months and weeks, and it’ll definitely be a lot of fun to give all the characters some attention. I suppose it’s a bit like how I got into the Undertale fandom, having not played the game until a long while later.

There are old monster legends dating back to the time of the Underground. They speak of a human hero from the surface. The human made their way through the underground, never acting in violence and defending themself only with a stick and their wits. They freed monsters, so that we may live on the surface now. And when other humans threatened our new lives, they sacrificed their morals to fight for us. The humans called them a monster, and so they donned the visage of a monster, armed with their stick and prepared for diplomacy or war...

When you play Deltarune and meet Ralsei, you can’t help being reminded of the one that started it all.
So I’m back, yeah. I have a lot of stuff to talk about, read on below!
For anyone that remembers me, it’s probably been a very long time since you’ve last seen me post or heard from me. It has been a very tumultuous couple of years. I’ve been trapped for a while in the cycle of saying I’d get back to things, and then disappearing again as something else comes up. So now, let me try to catch you up on all that’s been going on.
To my memory, the first significant event since my last visit is my departure from my cycling club. There was a whole bunch of drama and finger pointing, and in the end the club ended up getting shut down because it had been driven too far into debt. I have ridden on and off and still enjoy and love cycling, but I have not gone out for proper training or a race in a long while. The roads in Jamaica have continued to get much more dangerous, and criminals targeting cyclists in the early mornings have become a new problem to contend with, and it has reached the point where my safety needs to take priority.
Throughout the past two years, I’d been trying to visit my girlfriend in the States. I’ve been to places around the Caribbean, but never to the USA. We finally managed to make the trip happen in September last year, and I was admitted and spent three months with my girlfriend, getting to spend time with her in person for the first time. We extended my stay to the full three months so that I would be there when she had a surgery for scoliosis in early December.
It was really an amazing experience being with her, and I anxiously look forward to the next time we can meet. I did my best to introduce her and her family to some of the things I knew and was used to, but a lot more of the time was spent introducing me to things and showing me new experiences. My girlfriend and I went tenting in October, and went to Dreamhack Atlanta and visited relatives in Alabama in November. I was introduced to new foods, new technologies, and new social customs that I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.
The third key development as of late is esports. In July last year, I discovered that there was a scene developing in Jamaica for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. I didn’t and still don’t own a Switch, but I was interested in the game, and I discovered that they did open training workshops at a nearby university. I went to one of these workshops, and participated at a tournament that month, and from then on I was hooked. I am still learning the game, and learning my character - it took me a long time to settle on Zelda - which is difficult and slow-going when not having access to the game at home, but it is something I am interested in grinding towards. Despite losing both of my games, my experience competing in the Ultimate Singles tournament at Dreamhack was a real catalyst to encourage me to try and keep at it.
So, I’m back now, what does this mean? Well, I’ll try to post semi-regularly on here again. My art slowed down a bit due to some stressful events over the past year or two, but I am getting back into the groove of it now, and will hopefully have plenty to show you throughout 2020. I will also be open to commissions properly, which will be facilitated on Poizon. You can find all the info there.
As for personal stuff moving forward, I am applying for an Associate’s Degree in Business Management to start in August, and don’t really have much more of a plan than that. I’m just trying to seek all opportunities, and be open to whichever opportunities may offer themselves to me.
It’s good to be back, and hopefully I’ll be here to stay.

Hey by the way apparently I’m one of those shadowbanned artists
Tumblr media
This is literally all the search results for Kiryienka. None of my art at all? Really? Just nine asks?
I don’t ever really like to say this but I really need help from you guys to reblog my art, as well as this post. At least until I set up stably somewhere else. I really don’t understand what Tumblr is doing - this is incredible incompetence at best, and malicious self-destruction of their own website at worst.

The big problem with having to appeal fucking everything is that it takes days now, so there’s no actual way to prevent them piling up.

I’m gonna keep track of the progress, or lack thereof, and see how long it takes.

@staff @support You know, you guys insist that you need our help to get the detection systems for explicit content more and more accurate. And I get where you’re coming from, naturally if you keep telling the bots what’s a false positive, as well as point them towards things which they’re actually looking for, it will eventually get more and more accurate. I can be fair and say that it’s unrealistic to expect such a ridiculously large-scale endeavor to be perfect right off the bat, whether it’s executed by automated systems or by pure human review.
However.
There’s a distinct difference between imperfect, and what is actually going on right now. Today I logged into Tumblr again and found that another of my posts I tagged was incorrectly flagged (for anyone curious, it was my post-Christmas Friskriel pic from about a year ago which I’m still kind of proud of). After I sent in my appeal to get rid of the fourth flag I’ve had to deal with so far, I started browsing around, and visiting different blogs. I have visited around ten or so blogs today - most of which reblog minimally or not at all, and all of which do not have any history of explicit content - and I am really not exaggerating when I say that I came across at least one hidden post within the first 10-15 of every single one of those blogs.
This starts out as a serious annoyance and hindrance towards anyone who posts image-based content on Tumblr - for example, me as an artist - but it turns into a potentially much larger problem considering two other factors.
I am citing the post on @support titled ‘Updates to Tumblr’s Community Guidelines’ (I will not be including a link because frankly at this point I don’t know what will be blacklisted anymore). My main point of interest is the following:
Will I get kicked off of Tumblr if I’ve uploaded adult content in the past?
We’re removing content, not people. However, those who repeatedly and deliberately post new content that violates our updated guidelines may have their account deactivated per our Terms of Service. If you feel you’ve been incorrectly suspended, you can appeal here.
The wording here does include the word ‘deliberately’, which should be an obvious distinction in this case. However, the severe lack of transparency here makes suspension a very real threat for anyone who isn’t on top of their flag appeal game. How many such violations over what time period lead to a suspension? Is what is deserving of a suspension determined by human review, or by the same bots incorrectly flagging things in the first place?
This is so much hassle you’re going through, Tumblr. The removal of adult content is already something we would expect to cripple your userbase, there’s no need to send even more people than necessary away via this terrible execution.
Tell you what Tumblr. I like you, okay? I started out drawing thanks to you. I met so many good friends and my current girlfriend thanks to you. You have been a surprisingly noticeable influence in my life for the past almost 3 years. I don’t really want to see you die, so just for you, I’m gonna give you a tip, and this is absolutely free from me, okay? You won’t see an offer like this anywhere else.
New game plan, step one: reel the current ban back in for now, bring back Safe Search. I gotta be honest with you, Safe Search worked pretty much perfectly for me. With that and the age limitation for turning it off, you have your bases covered already while you implement this new change a bit more smoothly, alright?
And yes, I am not advocating for a complete rollback of the adult content ban. Simply put, it’s not gonna happen. It’s clear at this point that Tumblr does not want to associate with adult content anymore, so the best you can really ask for is a cleaner transition than this.
Anyway, step two is at the same time as step one. Keep the detection system running, keep flagging posts. But with a few key differences. First of all, instead of completely obfuscating the flagged post, cover it with a heavy blur filter, so that it could still potentially be discerned as a correct or incorrect flag. Second, and most importantly, allow all users to unhide a flagged post for themselves. If you really must, you can apply an age limit to that too.
Let your data collection keep going on, and keep making the bots more and more accurate, without hindering those who are following the guidelines already. Then you can implement the full ban once the bot is at a more acceptable standard. Obviously we’re not looking for perfection, which is impossible, but we should expect better than this right now.
