IF YOU ARE STILL TAKING REQUESTS FOR FANFICS!!!!
Hi, I'm just excited because I read a lot of Hank Voight's imagines in the last hour so... Yeah. Anyways, here's my idea: Voight dating a latina, she's a kindergarten teacher and helped in a former case as a witness. They are in a secret relationship since he doesn't want her to be in danger but the team finds out and it's cute because they are total opposites (like... She's cute as fuck and all kind and sweet and fluffy and so fucking small). It's like... I don't know, I want to see that.

Thank you for my first request, I loved writing this and I hope you enjoy reading it.

Keep you Safe
Voight x Female Reader (Latina)
Warnings: Fluff, some bad language, just full of cute stuff. (If you feel there should be other warnings please do let me know)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Waking up, you felt a heavy weight over your stomach. Looking down, you saw Voights arm resting over you. Smiling you shifted back, moving further into his hold.
"Mmm... you tryin'a start something (Y/N)?" face flushing, you tried to move away, stammering out a reply;
"No, I was just..." Hanks arm tightened around you pulling you closer as he buried his face into the dip of your shoulder.
"I didn't say you could move Miss Pérez." You felt your blush deepen as Voight repositioned you both so that his leg was between yours, and the arm that had been around your stomach reached up to gently curve around your throat. Smiling to yourself, you relaxed into him again, the warmth of the sun through the curtains and the steady breathing from Voight lulling you back into sleep.
What felt like moments later, a piercing ringing startled you awake, then clipped, gruff words from Hank.
"I'll be there shortly." Throwing his phone back on the side he laid back down next to you, kissing your shoulder. Stifling a moan, you tried to think past wanting to sink into Hank even more.
"Do... do you have a case?"
"Mmm."
"I'll go make some coffee yeah?" You made to get up, but Hank tightened his grip around your waist.
"You know, I am the Sergeant (Y/N). Which means..." He turned you over, slowly leaning over you and reaching down to pull your shirt up exposing your soft tanned skin.
"Whi... which means?" You stammered out. Hank hummed, kissing your stomach, reaching a hand up to tangle his fingers in your long dark hair.
"Means... I got more important things to be dealing with right now."
-------------------------------------
"You have a late one Boss?" Adam smirked.
"Scuse me...?" Voight's tone held annoyance and anger.
"I was.. just messing Boss." Adam stammered out.
"Oh you was hmm? Well Adam... not that I need to explain myself but I thought I had competent detectives on this team and that I wouldn't need to hurry my ass down to a crime scene. But clearly... I was wrong hmm?" Adam seemed to shrink where he stood, embarrassment evident on his face.
"Anyone else want to question where I was hmm?" Everyone else shook their head with murmurs of "No Boss" .
"Good... now get back to work."
Voights day continued like usual, leads were run down and suspects were brought in for questioning, but all the while he couldn't help but think about this morning. How he had stretched you out, and kissed every inch of your beautiful skin. He loved how you looked, even though you always blushed when he looked at you. He'd met you on a case a few months back, you'd been an eye witness to a shooting and your description had helped the Intelligence team catch him. He couldn't place why, but he had decided to come by your work just to check on you. You'd been super shaken up when the shooting had happened, and he didn't like the thought of you being scared to leave the house. What he'd found however, was you out in the playground of the school you worked in, teaching the children about the different varieties of birds. They were all excited to be outside, and he couldn't help but smile as you had let them wander off with their binoculars looking for birds to see. He found that, whenever you smiled he felt the need to smile also. Your joy was infectious, even the grumpiest looking kid in your class had ended up smiling and laughing. When he'd asked you how you was doing, he'd been surprised by your answer;
"As scared as I am... I won't allow that man to take me away from these kids. They mean everything to me, and I love teaching them. So he'll have to do better than that."
He'd felt a sense of pride in that moment, saw a fierceness in you that his wife had held in her. He wasn't sure when he had come up with the idea, but he had ended up asking you out for dinner that night and the rest was history.
"Boss, we've caught another lead." Pulling himself out of his thoughts, Voight glanced up from his desk to find Upton standing in his doorway. Nodding, he made a noise in his throat.
"You heading out?" She shook her head,
"No, Jay just went out to pick her up."
"Okay, keep me posted." Nodding, she walked back to her desk leaving Voight to drift back into his thoughts.
He'd enjoyed waking up with you that morning, he seemed to find that he felt less... less when he had you by his side. He liked how you held your love for life out for everyone to see. Any drawing or gift you had been given by your children was hung proudly in your home. He'd watched that moring, as you had gotten rid of the last bunch of flowers that had been gifted to you. You'd always seem a little sad whenever you did this, even though you knew that they didn't last that long. Maybe he'd pick you up some new flowers on the way to you later. He was just thinking about what to get for you, when Upton knocked again.
"She's in the interrogation room Boss."
"Let's get in there."
---------------------------------------------------------
Pulling the file, Voight read through it as he slowly walked to the interrogation room. Frowning he turned back to Upton,
"Who's in there with the lead?"
"Antonio is."
"Hmm..." Looking back at the file he frowned again,
"There's not mention of the lead... who is it?" Opening the door to the viewing room, Upton walked in.
"A woman called (Y/N) Pérez, she's a kindergarten teacher. She was a witness to a shooting a while back and we think that she may recognise the guy from this shooting, or maybe... she knows him on a more... biblical level." Voight stepped in quickly behind Upton, looking through the two way mirror and felt his stomach churn, and his rage build. Antonio was sitting across from you. His tone was sharp, nothing to show how kind he really was.
"Where were you this morning?" You're face looked pale, as you sat and twisted the hem of your shirt in your fingers. He could see the slight mark he had left on your collarbone this morning, could still feel your soft touch on his cheek.
"I um... I was at home... and uh..."
"Can anyone confirm that?"
"Um... sorry why am I here?" Antonio, kept his face passive, watching you intently.
"You're here because a few months back, you was a witness to a shooting, and now we find out that you know Christopher Hent. Went to school with him."
"Well.. yeah I was in the same Junior High class as him, but that doesn't mean I know..."
"Well maybe, you stayed friends with him. Maybe, a few months back he needed his rival drug dealer off the streets and you gave a false eye witness causing him to be put in jail."
"What.. no I..."
" I THINK..." Voight didn't stick around to hear the rest of Antonio's accusations. Storming out of the viewing room, he threw open the door to the interrogation room glaring at Antonio.
"Alright that's enough 'Tonio." He couldn't look at you, knew he would see the fear in your eyes, and he knew from how angry he looked he could add to that fear and that would break his heart. Antonio stood up looking confused.
"Boss, I was just..."
"I said... ENOUGH." Rage burned through Voights body, hating how Antonio had spoken to you. Antonio folded his arms, and didn't move.
"What's going on Hank? Why you protecting this woman?" Hank looked over at you, felt his heart miss a beat. You was looking up at him, a pained expression on your face. You'd both agreed to keep your relationship quiet. You knew a lot of people hated Voight, blamed him for their or a loved ones imprisonment, or someone's death. So you had kept it to yourself. It had been thrilling to have something so wonderful, and not have anyone interfering.
"HANK!" Antonio barked out at him, a quiet rage simmering just below the surface. Hank couldn't take his eyes off of you, but when he spoke it was soft, affection coating every word.
"Because... she was with me this morning. I was late... because I was with (Y/N)." Moving to stand in front of you, he held his hand out to you pulling you to your feet.
Antonio dropped his arms, and Upton stood rooted to the spot in the doorway.
"Hank... I... you shouldn't have... I would have been okay." your voice was soft, you didn't know what to say. Raising his hand, he gently touched your cheek.
"I know, but you're mine, and I will do anything to keep you safe, hmm?" Leaning into his touch, you raised a hand pressing it to his chest. Voight leant down and softly kissed you, smiling down at you as he pulled away.
There was a commotion behind you in the doorway, and Voight turned his head slightly.
"You've got to be kidding me." Adam's voice whispered through the room. Never taking his eyes off you, Hank spoke to Adam.
"Is there a problem Ruzek?" You heard him stammer slightly before answering,
"Well... no Boss but... well... how have you got a woman like that? I mean... she's so so...." Voight turned his head again staring intently at Adam, his voice holding a whip of venom.
"So... what?"
"She's so nice... and you're a... well you're an asshole." You let out a bubble of laughter, causing Voight to look back down at you raising an eyebrow.
"You think I'm an asshole huh?" Grinning you shook your head, dropping your voice so only he could hear you.
"Of course not Sergeant, although you do have a nice ass." Antonio let out a low whistle, a shit eating grin on his face as he turned away, laughing at the surprised look on Voights face. Hank ran his tongue over his bottom lip, making a non committal noise in this throat. Blushing deeply, you dipped your head again.
"Can I... can we go home now?" Voight smiled and nodded.
"Sure thing sweethear'." Wrapping his arm around your shoulders, he slowly guided you out of the interrogation room, Adam moved out the way for you both, a stunned look on his face. As you passed him he opened his mouth to say something,
"Adam if I hear anything else out of your mouth you're fired." Voight spoke before Adam could even get out a murmur.
"Hank... you can't fire someone for having an opinion on something." Rolling his eyes, he gripped your shoulder tighter kissing the top of your head as he guided you through the office towards the stairs down to the exit.
"I can if he pisses me off enough." He mumbled against your hair. Chuckling, you lent into him, resting your hand on his chest.
"I never realised you was such a hard ass Mr Voight." Voight grinned, as Adam's voice rang out behind you.
"DIDN'T REALISE.... HARD ASS.... WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW??" You just heard Antonio's voice as you started down the stairs.
"I think what's happening, is that Voight has a girlfriend Ruzek."

Hank Voight / Reader (F)
Authors note: I like the thought of Voight being super protective, he's a good man.
Summary: When a building explodes, you and Voight end up trapped in the rubble for 18 hours. However, you neglact to mention the wounds you sustained sending Voight into a panic. The only issue? The rest of 51 can't grasp why Voight cares so much about you. You're just a firefighter... right?
Warnings: Mention of serious injuries, explosions, being trapped in a collapsed building. Mention of dying but being revived. Angst, If you think there needs to be other warnings, please do let me know.

"I NEED A MEDIC NOW!" Voight came limping out from the collapsed building carrying your unconscious body. Brett was the first to get to him, then chief Boden, Ruzek, Atwater, Casey and a multitude of other people. Boden helped shift your body onto a backboard, Ruzek helping to hold up Voight.
"She... she took a load of shrapnel to the stomach. She passed out about ten minutes ago." Brett nodded, ushering Boden and the others to move you onto the ambo. Ruzek gripped Voight tighter,
"Come on boss, we need to get you seen to as well." Voight didn't want to move at first, watching as the ambo holding you sped off away from the scene.
"Boss come on, we got this." Finally agreeing, Voight let Ruzek walk him to his car.
"Keep up with that ambo." Frowning Ruzek nodded, peeling away from the chaos behind him. Voight kept quiet the whole ride to Med, he let Ruzek update him on everything that had happened between the time he went into the building, till the time he came clambering out. A huge fire had started in a building the intelligence team were watching. They had a gang under surveillance who were meant to be the newest suppliers of heroine. It seems, they were so new they didn't know how to balance the chemicals properly, causing the whole building to go up in flames. FireHouse 51 had showed up, and got to work battling the fire. It didn't take long for the fire to be put out, or it's occupants to be escorted out. Once it was clear, Voight asked Boden to be shown where it had started to see if any of their gang members were part of the new burnt features. Boden had grabbed the first person that passed, you. Of course it had been you, of all the firefighters on this job it had to be you that came past at that moment.
"(Y/N), would you be so kind to show Sergeant Voight where the fire started please?"
"Sure thing Chief." Nodding his thanks, Voight followed you into the building. You'd only been in there for a short while when something blew up, causing most of the building to come down around you, and that is where you had both become stuck for eighteen hours. EIGHTEEN! Voight had ended up with a piece of metal impaling his thigh, and you had taken shrapnel to the torso. But you hadn't told him at first, you'd wanted to help Voight and anyone else you could find.
"I'm a firefighter Hank, it's my job to help others." He could still hear your voice ringing through his head. He'd only realised something was wrong, when your face became pale. Wrenching open your fire coat, a wave of horror spread over him. You had multiple entry points in your stomach and side, and blood was slowly oozing out of all of them.
"God damnit (Y/N)!" He stripped off his outer layer, tying it around your stomach trying to stop the blood flow. He'd spent hours digging away rubble, trying to find a way out. The last time he had felt this panicked, Camille had become terminally ill. You were both lucky that you hadn't gone too far into the building when it had blown, he managed to make a gap that he could pull you both through.
"Boss?"
"WHAT!" Ruzek frowned at Voights outburst.
"I know you're angry, and injured but we're gonna get this son of a bitch okay?"
"Mmm." Nodding he turned to look back out the window, letting Ruzek's words wash over him.
---------------------------------------------------
Voight came down to the waiting room to find the whole of 51 in there. Boden stood up, extending his hand. Shaking it, Voight nodded at everyone in the room.
"How is she doin'?" Boden gave a frown, keeping his voice low.
"We don't know yet, they took (Y/N) in for surgery about three hours ago." Clenching his jaw, Voight put his hands in his pocket. Hermann came over, giving an appreciative smile to Voight.
"Hey uh... thanks for pulling (Y/N) out. I uh... she's on my rig and I appreciate you looking out for her."
"Don't mention it, she's a good woman. You should both be proud of her, she spent most of her time looking for any casualties and trying to get us out of there." Smiling, Hermann looked at Boden both of them showing pride. Doors swinging open behind them all, a surgeon walked out smiling half heartedly at the crowd of firefighters.
"I managed to remove all of the shrapnel, there was a lot of internal bleeding. So much so that she coded twice on the table... I..." Voight stepped forward quickly, anger rolling off him in waves.
"You mean died... she died on the table." Looking uneasy the surgeon nodded.
"Yes... but I have managed stop all of the bleeding and she is in the recovery room." Boden looked between both men, a frown forming on his face.
"Uh... thank you Doctor. Are we able to see her yet?"
"Yes, she is still asleep but feel free." Most of 51 got up and quietly made their way into your room, Boden, Hermann, Voight, Severide and Kidd all remained in the waiting room.
"You know you didn't have to get all rude to the Doctor?" Kidd said, eyeing Voight with a pissed off look. Turning, Voight watched Kidd for a moment then looked around at the rest of them.
"I just spent eighteen hours trapped under a collapsed building with her, so please excuse me for feeling a little concerned for her wellbeing." Boden stepped forward, wanting to calm everyone down.
"We're all concerned here Hank, but you don't need to get angry at the people trying to save her life or my team." Smirking Voight turned on his heel, Hermann piped up feeling his temper rise.
"Hey you know we care about (Y/N) a lot! We were just as scared when you brought her out, so don't act like you're the only one who cares for her. She is part of our team.. OUR family okay and.." Voight whipped round quickly, his temper at breaking point, not noticing Ruzek, Burgess and Atwater stepping in behind him. He couldn't bring himself to say anything, knew if he did he would have a whole damn house of firefighters come down on his ass.
"Uh... Sarge? We um... think we've found the guys. We're going to bust them now. Do you want in or..." Rubbing his face in frustration, Voight turned on his heel.
"Let's go." Shoving past Atwater, Voight headed out fire burning his blood.
----------------------------------------------
Prying your eyes open, you found yourself laying in a dark room with the quiet beep of machines around you. Glancing round, you realised you was in Med.
"Hey... how you feeling?" Looking to your left you found Brett sitting in a big arm chair. Smiling you sat yourself up wincing at the pain in your stomach.
"I feel like I've been used as a sieve for bomb fragments. But other than that, I'm fine." Reaching for your hand she squeezed it,
"We were all here, we're taking it in shifts to check on you." Frowning you looked over at where your uniform had been set aside.
"The explosion... what happened? Did anyone else get hurt?"
"It's okay, we were all out of the explosion zone enough to just get a few cuts and scrapes. It was only you and Sergeant Voight that got the brunt of it." You felt your face grow hot at the thought of Voight.
"Christ... was he okay?" You tried to sound casual but it clearly wasn't enough. Brett smiled softly,
"Voight... he's fine. The last I heard he was out with his team hunting the gang responsible."
"But...?" It was Brett's turn to flush this time.
"Well um... see while we was waiting to hear about your surgery, he came and waited with us. The surgeon finally came out and told us how you was doing, but Voight... he seemed angry at how injured you had been." Your heart was racing now, every thought going through your mind.
"He didn't say why he was angry... but... when we spoke to Burgess she said that he gets a bit over protective. He thinks it's his job to save everyone you know?" Nodding, you felt your eyes water slightly as you dropped your gaze.
"He was angry I didn't tell him about my injuries, that's probably why he was so angry." Glancing up at Sylvie, you gave a half smile.
"I kept my mouth shut about the shrapnel I had taken, I knew if I didn't try to get us out of there, I'd have lost my mind. I just..."
"Hey, you don't have to explain yourself to me (Y/N), I get it. It's part of our job." You wiped at your face. She leant in and gave you a hug,
"Tell you what, I'll come back and see you tomorrow. You get some rest okay?"
"Thanks Sylvie, you're amazing." You watched her quietly leave your room, smiling to yourself as you shut your eyes feeling the sweet lull of sleep pulling at you.
ONE WEEK LATER
You'd finally gotten out of the hospital and was now resting in your own home. Most of 51 had called in to see you, bring you food and check you was okay. You hadn't seen Voight, he'd been pulled into another case which was taking up all of his time. You didn't mind, usually you were both pretty busy with work. Looking around your home, you felt boredom set in pretty quickly. You'd been resting for over a week, you needed to get out take in the night air.
Freshening up, you pulled on clothes that didn't make you look like a college bum, grabbed your keys, and headed out to Molly's.
"(Y/N)!" Hermann's voice rang out over the crowd, causing the rest of second shift to turn and grin. Smiling, you waved. You had a lot of people come and hug you, pat you on the back. Taking a seat at the bar, Hermann handed you a drink, squeezing your hand.
"It's good to see you kiddo." Taking a swig of your drink, you smiled.
"Thanks Hermann. I'm glad to see you too." You sat quietly, watching everyone come and go from the bar. Kidd had joined you at some point and you'd had a few drinks before you heard a bit of a commotion at the door. Both of you turning, you saw Voight standing in the doorway, looking straight at you his face full of thunder.
"Oh girl I think you're in trouble." Spinning back round you saw Kidd's eyes widen as she got out of her chair swiftly moving away. Before you could call her back, you felt a heavy presence behind you. Slowly turning, you found Voight looking down at you.
"I've been looking everywhere for you... you weren't at the hospital... or home... I thought you'd... I thought." His voice was low and dark. Fear and frustration was rolling off of him.
"I just wanted some fresh air, and decided to come here." Hermann was standing close by, listening in. Voight leant closer, reaching out a hand to gently touch your cheek.
"I was worried about you." Hermann shook his head and stepped closer.
"Hey Voight, I know you care but you're being a bit much aren't you?" Voights eyes lit up with a fire as some of the others of 51 had started to listen in.
'It's okay Hermann." You could see both men getting more angry by the second.
"What... no he's being a jerk. You aren't the only one who cares about her... she..."
"We're dating Hermann!" You felt the whole bar go silent. Hermann's eyes went wide, his mouth half open. Voight looked down at you, a smile playing on his face.
"You're...you and... and and Voight?" Hermann seemed to be struggling with what you'd just told him, slowly looking behind you and saw the rest of 51 had obviously heard you too. Keeping your voice quiet, you leant into Voight a little.
"Yes... me and Voight. That's why he was angry at the hospital." Sighing you looked up at Voight.
"For how long?" Hermann sounded confused and curious all at the same time. Voight answered before you could, never taking his eyes off of you.
"Mmm... about a year and a half."
Hermann seemed to go pale, kicking himself that no one at 51 had figured it out. Sighing, you gently placed your hand on Voights side.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you about the shrapnel, and... and I'm sorry you were worried about..." Before you could finish, Voight leant down and kissed you softly his big hand gently tilting your head back. Pressing his head to yours he smiled,
"You don't have to apologise. It's who you are, putting others before yourself. It's how you're built, it's why I fell in love with you." He enjoyed watching the surprise light up your face. Reaching up, you ran your hand over his cheek.
"Want to get out of here?" Grinning, he hummed in agreement. Helping you off your bar stool, he placed his arm around your waist, walking you slowly to the door. You could feel everyone's eyes on you, heard Kidd and Brett whistle at you. Tilting your head up to him, you waited for him to lean in closer so you could kiss his cheek.
"Huh... what was that for?"
"I love you too Hank." Smirking, Voight reached out for the door guiding you both out into the warm Summer night.

Note
What if Jimmy Smits’s Nero popped up in Mayans?
I would combust.
Honestly I would love to see how they would tie him in. All these boys currently need a man like Nero in their lives. Someone who has been through some shit and still has a level head on his shoulders. Goddd that would be so good.
Bring back my man with the slutty cardigans!!

“Oh fuck,” he groaned, “just like that.”
You wondered how you had ended up here. Not that you minded really. Sure, your knees had gotten a bit sore, the cream carpet of the jet not as soft as it looked but you also were sure that they did not anticipate the passengers to kneel on it for extended periods of time like you were right now. But the hand at the back of your head, the low groans in your ear and most importantly the cock in your mouth were so worth it.
Aaron Hotchner was not the kind of man who let his mask fall easily, much less in a professional setting. But here he was, his legs spread wide, the zipper of his pants undone just enough to let his cock spring free. Never in your life had you dared to hope to see him like this.
You were sure by now your drool was soaking the crotch of his pants and for a second you worried that you would leave a mess on the nice leather of the jet seats. But hey, what were wet wipes for?
“You just needed to suck your boss's cock, didn’t you?”
You hummed, looking up at him through your lashes, your walls flattering around nothing. Wetness was dripping down your thighs and you shuffled your knees wider apart, trying to somehow get friction against your folds, no matter how as long as you could just feel something.
With the team already gone on a conference, when the spontaneous call for a case came in, it was only you and Hotch that needed to fly. And somehow with you having made a drunken comment about the size of his cock the night before …
(“I always wondered what they said about men with big dick energy,” you had said, words already slurring, “You know … if it’s literal.” – “And how could I help?” – “Well if I know any man who has big dick energy, it is you, Mr Aaron Hotchner.”)
… Aaron Hotchner had made it his mission to show you just how big he was. (“Come on then,” his exact words had been, “Don’t you want to see if your guess was right?”)
And oh, had you been right. His cock was long and thick, his shaft heavy on your tongue and the moment he had finally unzipped, the pearl of precome at the tip had practically screamed for you to lick it off. He looked so good like this, all stern and firm and with his suit jacket falling open over his belly and you swallowed around him, trying to work him deeper, trying to get the last few inches of him in your mouth. Because even as he praised you, you wanted to be better for him. Aaron Hotchner made you want to be good for him. Whether that meant putting all your effort into a case or getting on your knees and showing him how much you wanted him – had always wanted him.
“Good girl,” he praised you in a murmur, his hand still circling the part of his shaft that you could not get your lips around, “Fuck, you’re good at this, you almost need no instruction.”
You moaned, pulling back from his shaft to get some air. By now, you must have looked completely dishevelled. Eyes glassy, lips (and pussy) wet, hair a mess, not to mention the wrinkles in your dress. But Aaron did not seem to mind. On the contrary, his eyes roamed over your figure and his tongue came out to wet his lips as he devoured you. And god did you want to be devoured.
“Open wide,” he instructed you, his hand pumping his shaft wet from your saliva. You swore you had never seen anything sexier. “I want to see if you can take it all.”
“Please yes,” you gasped, rocking your hips forward, your entire body singing with relief when you felt the tip of his shoe bump against your clit. Heat shot into your cheeks, both from desire and shame. Were you really about to do this? What if he thought you were weird?
His foot moved, the tip of his shoe pressing against your crotch through the fin fabric of your panties and you moaned just as his large hand closed around your jaw. Your eyes shot up, meeting his.
“Do I need to repeat myself?” he asked, his voice firm, “Are you too busy trying to make yourself come to be good for me?”
His eyes searched yours and you shook your head, opening your mouth wide even with his fingers still squeezing our cheeks together. You could not help rocking against him again, sharply exhaling from the stimulation against your clit, your body feeling flush with arousal. Hotch smirked, his mouth opening and before you knew it, a wet drop landed on your outstretched tongue. Your pussy clenched around nothing.
“Think that’ll help that little mouth of yours?” he teased you, leaning back again. Like the moon calling the sea, you followed his movement implicitly, leaning close to him, closer to his crotch.
“At least it made your pussy wet,” he murmured and you wondered how he knew. And he must have because he just raised his brow, completely unimpressed, “Do you think I did not notice the stares? The squirming? I even remember that time your nipples got all hard when I brushed against your chest in that elevator.”
Your eyes widened, the elevator incident, as you liked to call it, had been months ago and he had noticed that? Even with you trying to hide your attraction to him so well? His jaw ticked and you swallowed thickly, your hips rocking forward again. You ducked forward, your lips wrapping around the tip of him and you wiggled your tongue, slowly bobbing up and down and making sure to take him a little deeper each time.
His hand was warm against your skin as it wandered to the back of your neck. There was something so hot about him when he leaned forward again, pushing your head down. “Come on,” he encouraged you, “Almost there.”
You gagged, sputtering around his shaft but you did not pull up, did not tap the outside of his thigh like he had told you to in case you wanted to stop. The tip of him hit the back of your throat, your muscles closed around him but even then, he pushed further and you swore
“There we go,” he murmured gently, his soft voice a stark contrast to the way his cock hit the back of your throat, “Such a good little cocksucker for me and only me.”
God, his words. Who needed to breathe when you could have Aaron Hotchner call you his good girl?
His breath was shaking and you surged forward, keeping his gaze as you swallowed around him. In the corner of your eyes you could see his fist clench, his breath shuddering. That was the only indication before he came, spurts of come filling your mouth to the point where you weren’t even sure if you could hold it.
Aaron’s eyes fluttered closed, his head leaning back against the soft leather of the seat, his hips twitching and you choked, his cock moving in and out of your mouth while he softened. You watched him, completely enamoured with the way his chest heaved, how his hand cupped your cheek as he pulled out of your mouth.
Out of instinct, you opened your mouth for him, showing him the pool of his come threatening to drip down your bottom lip.
“Someone is eager,” he commented, smiling slightly as his fingers closed around your chin. His eyes were dark as he mustered you, his hair slightly undone, “Are you going to be good and swallow for me?”
You nodded eagerly, swallowing and opening your mouth again for him to see, wanting to impress him, wanting to be good for him.
He looked dazed as he watched your empty mouth and you found yourself wishing that he’d fill it again, in any way he saw fit.
“Good girl,” he murmured. His lips brushed over your cheek and that was the gesture that got your heart racing. “Come on, let’s get you up.”
On shaky legs, you stood up his big hands holding you underneath your elbows until both of you were standing at the end of the empty jet. “I am going to get you some whatever,” he said quietly, “We will land in an hour.”
“Yes, sir,” you replied absentmindedly, your heart skipping a beat when you saw how dark his eyes got at that.
“Interesting,” he said, his hand squeezing your hip lightly before falling to his side, “I will remember that for next time.”
You sat down, taking deep breaths as you tried to work through what had just happened. You hadn’t even come and you still felt like this was the best sexual experience you ever had. How long had you spent dreaming about this? Hoping that he would see you the same way you saw him? Fuck, this would haunt your dreams for years.
Only when he sat down opposite you, offering you a glass of water, did you realize what he had said.
Next time?

Pieces Epilogue: Sisters
Word Count: 1,915
Warnings: mentions about fights, fitting in, allusions to bullying
A/N: Technically this can be read on its own? But it would definitely be more meaningful if you've already read the series, since it takes place in the Pieces universe so putting it down as an epilogue! This wasn't exactly planned, it was just something that popped into my head for this AU and I just penned it down but since people have asked, I decided to go ahead and post it! (Not opposed to one shots for the Pieces universe, just saying haha.) Hope you guys like this too!

“Hey Halstead!”
The two girls turned, their hair flipping gently in the breeze, to look at the fifteen year old boy standing just a few feet away from them.
“I was talking to the actual Halstead.” The boy spoke to the older girl. “Not the fake one.”
There were snickers from his friends and the younger six year old narrowed her eyes.
“Chloe’s my sister.”
The boy stepped forward. “Your half sister. Her daddy didn’t want her, that’s why you have to share yours with her.”
Sophia Halstead took a deep breath, drawing herself to her full six year old height before she catapulted herself headfirst at the fifteen year old boy standing opposite her, barely hearing her older sister calling her name.
Tumblr media
You reached the school just as you spotted Jay’s truck pull in to a parking lot and sighed.
Sending both Chloe and Sophia to schools which shared a compound had seemed like a great idea, especially since the girls had had a good relationship ever since Sophia was born. Chloe looked out for Sophia and took care of her, helped with her homework, and even prioritized watching her over spending time out on her own. Sophia, on the other hand, looked out for Chloe in her own way despite being seven years younger.
You exchanged a look with Jay before you walked into the Principal’s office, spotting your oldest standing protectively next to her younger sister.
Chloe’s hair was sticking out at weird angles, a small bruise already starting to form on her face. Sophia was holding her hand but glaring at the boy sitting opposite them.
Chloe looked up a little sheepishly, especially since she’d just promised to keep Sophia out of trouble but Jay gently squeezed her shoulder.
“He started it! He keeps saying Chloe’s not a real Halstead. Chloe is my sister!”
Jay swiveled his head to glance at Chloe who cast her eyes downwards, although she didn’t let go of Sophia’s hand.
“He said we have to share because her own daddy didn’t want her. WE HAVE THE SAME DADDY!” Sophia almost roared, as Chloe tugged her little sister backwards.
“Alright, enough.” You said, giving Sophia a look. You knew her temper would get her in trouble one day.
“Is that true?” The Principal asked.
“It’s true.” The boy shrugged. “Everyone knows Chloe’s your half-sister.”
You had no idea how a teenager could make ‘half-sister’ sound like a crude word. You looked incredulously at his parents who just remained stoic before you shook your head, barely hiding your disgust at their attitude.
The Principal frowned. “I was asking if you had really said that to Chloe and Sophia, but I guess I got my answer. Kids, wait outside. Away from each other.” She warned.
You nodded at Chloe, who led Sophia out of the Principal’s office and waited for the door to close before you turned back to the Principal and the boy’s parents. It was a waste of time being here, solidified only by the conversation that followed, everyone using politically correct words masked with fake politeness to agree to keep their own kids in line.
If you had your way you’d be screaming. Kids picked these things up from somewhere, the boy’s parents were responsible for this. But you didn’t speak, letting Jay lead the conversation before you left.
“Come on girls.” You called, pushing them ahead of you. It was just as you were leaving that you heard it, the voice from behind almost scathing.
“That’s why they say upbringing is so important.”
You couldn't hold it back this time, swinging your head back around. “You have something to say to me?”
The woman paused, like she was taken aback at being confronted.
You took a deep breath, reminding yourself not to go full rage in front of your daughters. “I agree.” You glanced at the boy. “So I’d thank you to teach your boy not to say nasty things about my daughters, or anyone else for that matter.”
She gave a dry laugh. “I wonder what your job is, Mrs Halstead. For you to have daughters with different fathers.”
“Doctor.”
“Excuse me?” The woman stared back at you, like she couldn’t believe her own ears.
“It’s Dr Halstead.” You didn't use that at work to reduce the confusion between you and Will but it didn't matter. “My daughters have one father. Feel free to ask the principal to show you the register. You'll find Chloe Halstead on the list.”
Jay reached out for your hand and squeezed. “Come on.”
You gave her one last withering look, before you pushed the girls ahead of you.
“If you have anything more to say about my wife and kids, you can talk to me directly.” Jay said quietly, handing her his card. "Don't do it through the children."
The woman glanced up at him now, her eyes sliding across the words Sergeant Jay Halstead.
Jay didn't pause, merely turned around and followed you out the building.
It was quiet in the truck as Jay drove home. Sophia was still seething, her arms crossed in front of her as Chloe nudged her gently to stop it.
You glanced out of the window, watching the buildings shoot past without saying anything. You couldn’t even really be mad with your daughters, not when all they were trying to do was stand up for each other. But you couldn’t tell them that fighting was a good way to deal with their problems either, so it was a lose-lose for Mum.
The silence maintained until you crossed the doorway behind your children and they shuffled their feet into the house and towards the couch.
You glanced at Jay, who nodded at you.
Divide and Conquer.
This wasn’t an unusual stance you and Jay took so the girls were used to it but Chloe was still surprised when Jay said he wanted to talk to her and she got up, shooting her younger sister a warning ‘don’t make things worse’ look before she left the room.
Jay sighed as he pulled out a chair in the adjoining dining room and Chloe sat down in it. “Sorry, Dad.”
“How long has this been going on?” Jay asked, turning to look at Chloe.
Chloe shook her head. “Dad, I swear I’ve never… Sophia has never… We’ve never done this before.”
Jay glanced at her, his expression softening. “Chloe. How long have the kids at school been doing this to you?”
Chloe paused, looking up at the one steady father figure in her life, realizing what Jay was actually asking her.
“I…”
Jay didn’t say anything but pulled out another chair sinking into it while facing his oldest daughter. “Why didn’t you tell us you were having a hard time?”
Chloe smiled and shrugged. “Because it stopped bothering me.”
Jay raised an eyebrow and Chloe smiled. “Okay, it did bother me. At first. They’d say I was a fake. That I didn’t have a real father, that I was stealing Sophia’s.”
Chloe paused as Jay frowned, feeling a clench in his heart when he heard the nasty things his daughter had to listen to.
“But, Dad. It’s not true.” She said, her voice steadying with confidence. “Whatever they think, or they say, you’re my dad, right? I’m a Halstead too.”
Jay smiled, reaching forward to put a comforting hand on Chloe’s head. “Exactly.”
“So you’re not mad?” Chloe asked and Jay narrowed his eyes.
“Those are two separate matters.” Jay said, although he kept his voice even. “I can be mad and still love you. They don’t cancel each other out.”
Chloe cast her eyes back downwards. “Sorry, I should have kept us out of trouble.”
Jay exhaled, just as he heard a burst of attitude from the living room and had to work to straighten his facial expression.
“Come here.” Jay said, getting up as Sophia stepped towards him and buried herself into his embrace like how she always had. Jay put comforting arms around his daughter. “No matter what anyone says, you will always be my little girl.”
Chloe smiled. She'd heard this sentence a thousand times but she never got tired of it.
Jay didn’t let go even as he felt Chloe’s tears seep through the front of the light shirt he was wearing, cradling her head gently against his chest. “I’m not little anymore.” Chloe mumbled but he felt her arms tighten around his middle as she hugged him back.
Tumblr media
Sophia crossed her arms as she looked back at you defensively.
You sighed. “Sophia.”
“He started it. We were leaving and he said Chloe’s fake. Chloe is my sister.” Sophia said, although her tone was much calmer than it had been in school.
You squatted in front of the couch to reach her eye level. “Nothing excuses fighting, you hear me?” You kept your voice stern.
Sophia probably had gotten her sassy personality from her father, so you always had to remind yourself to take a different approach with her as compared to when Chloe had been Sophia’s age. “Chloe’s your sister, right?”
“Yeah.” Sophia answered almost defensively.
You exhaled. “So what did Daddy tell you? Does it matter what other people say about you? About us?”
“No.” Sophia pouted. “But…”
“No sass, Young Lady.” You warned.
Sophia let her mouth fall closed. “But they were mean to Chloe.”
You exhaled slowly. “Alright, come here.” You picked Sophia up easily, putting her on your lap. “Standing up for your sister, or your friends is not a bad thing. But that doesn’t mean you go around hitting people. Alright?”
Sophia stuck her bottom lip out a little like she did when she knew what you said made sense but wasn’t quite ready to fully accept it yet.
You kept the silence until Sophia angled her head up at her father and sister coming back into the room. Jay nodded at you to tell you everything was good so you glanced at Sophia. “You got it?”
Sophia nodded and you patted her back gently to tell her you were done and she slid right off, heading for Chloe and Chloe looked up at you.
You smiled and headed towards her, reaching over to give her a hug. “I’m sorry you’re having a hard time sweetheart.”
Chloe just buried her face into your neck and shook her head. I'm okay, Mom.” She whispered. "I'll keep an eye on Sophia, I promise."
“Alright.” Jay spoke now and Sophia looked up at her father. “Let’s go get some food, alright?”
Chloe looked warily between you and Jay. “That’s it?”
You angled an eyebrow up. “Complaining?”
Chloe shook her head. “I’ll keep us both out of trouble. I promise.”
Jay smiled, bending to scoop Sophia onto his arm. “That goes for you too.” Jay said towards his youngest, although he gave a small smile and you shook your head with a smile.
“Alright, let’s go feed you girls.” Jay said, heading back towards the front door, the truck keys jangling as he walked with Sophia.
Chloe slipped her hand into yours and squeezed and you smiled back at her.
Jay put Sophia into the car, letting Chloe climb in after her before he closed the back door and glanced at you.
“Thank you.” You whispered, as Jay paused by your side, watching Chloe strap Sophia in.
Jay smiled. “For what?”
“For you.”
Jay leaned in to press his lips gently against yours. “I love you too.” He answered.

“Did someone call for pizza?” Jay called as he opened the front door of their house, the patter of small feet alerting him that Chloe was making a beeline for him.
Jay smiled, bending to let her throw her arms around him and nuzzle her face into his shoulder before he lifted her off the floor as if she was still four and carrying her into the kitchen.
You let out a little chuckle, quickly heading over to take the food from Jay as he repositioned Chloe on his arm and she chattered on, almost telling Jay about her whole day second by second. You just smiled as you took out the plates, shaking your head at the slice of chocolate cake you found in one of the bags and sliding it into the fridge for dessert.
Chloe was in an excellent mood, her insecurities from the night before almost forgotten as Jay poured attention on her the whole night.
“I told Riley he was wrong.” Chloe said, her voice slightly quieter now as you cleared up the leftover pizza bits on her plate.
You looked up, exchanging a look with Jay, who gave you a small nod.
Chloe glanced up at Jay. “Right?” She asked, like she was seeking approval.
Jay smiled down at her. “Of course. You are my little girl, no matter what anyone says.” Jay said, putting a gentle hand on the top of her head. “And it’s about here.” He pointed gently to her heart.
Jay leaned over to lift Chloe onto his lap. “Listen, Chloe. What’s important is the heart. Always.” Jay spoke to her gently, now pointing to his own chest, illustrating it for her as simply as he could. “And what is in here is our family. This family. Four of us. What do you say?”
Chloe let out a smile and nodded. “I wanna be a big sister.”
Jay smiled and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “You’ll be the best big sister.”
Jay had barely finished his sentence when you slid the chocolate cake over towards her across the table and her eyes lit up.
He let out a chuckle and lifted Chloe back onto her own chair as you pointed towards him and Chloe swung her head towards Jay again, her hair swishing with the motion as she let out an excited yell. “Thanks, Dad!”
It was like the air was sucked out of the room as everyone froze. Chloe looked like she’d been caught doing something wrong, while you and Jay were just surprised.
“Sorry.”
Jay shook his head, putting a gentle hand on her head. “Hey, hey. Look at me.”
Chloe looked up a little warily.
“You have nothing to be sorry about. You hear me? It doesn't matter what you call me, you will always be my girl, like I promised.”
Chloe nodded, glancing at her chocolate cake.
Jay smiled. “Go on.”
As Chloe practically wolfed down her treat, Jay exchanged a look with you - a look that said you guys had to talk.
Tumblr media
Jay pushed the envelope towards you as you made your way back to the kitchen after putting Chloe to bed. Chloe had reverted to calling Jay by his name, to which you’d echoed what Jay had told her - that no matter what you were a family and all Jay and you wanted was for her to be happy.
You frowned in confusion and Jay just nodded at you.
You studied the document before your eyes flicked up to meet Jay’s eyes momentarily, looking down again. “What is…” Your eyes fell on the signature. “Caleb gave this to you?”
Jay nodded. “He came to the district today, handed me this and told me I should adopt Chloe instead.”
The document shook a little in your hand, as you put it down now.
Release and Termination of Parental Rights.
The words seemed to jump up at you from where the document now lay face-up on the table. You looked at Jay again as Jay told you about the conversation he had had with Caleb - how Caleb hadn’t asked for anything, just saying that he thought a lot about what you said and that he realised that it would be in Chloe’s best interests for Jay to adopt her, that he still hoped to see her once in a while but that you had been right in saying that Jay was more a father than he was. And how he ended off with saying that he’d gotten a career opportunity out of the country so this was really the best decision for everyone.
“I told him that he should have gone to you with this, but I think he didn’t want to get chewed out again. Besides, coming to the district was a smart move, I couldn’t clock him right in the middle of the district.” Jay said.
That got you to crack a smile.
“I’ll talk to him.” You said, pulling the papers towards you and Jay nodded, his eyes lingering on you and you just smiled. “I’ll let you know if I need you. Promise.”
Tumblr media
“I think I’m overcompensating.” Jay said, as he glanced at you.
You let out a small laugh before you looked back at the helium balloons that littered room, a huge “Happy Birthday Chloe” banner hanging across the door that led out to the bouncing castle that you could see in the back garden.
Jay had spent ages planning this party, calling to order a special cake, do up the party banners, balloons, even the huge bouncing castle and right down to the food. All you had done was take Chloe shopping for a new dress and everything else had been taken care of by Jay, Will and some others that Jay had roped in to help.
Your hands rested on your pregnant belly, and you smiled back up at your husband, just glad that at least your due date was after her seventh birthday. Chloe had been doing well for the past several months, she seemed to be excited to meet the baby even though she was a little more sensitive than she normally was. But Jay handled Chloe like a pro, so things were good. Really good.
The party was already winding down, there were just a few kids left who Chloe was closer to, their parents mingling in the backyard.
“Hey sweetheart, come on. I’ve got something for you.” Jay said, waving over to Chloe who’d come in for her water bottle.
Chloe frowned and nodded, heading towards Jay as you got up to clear the empty cups strewn about the table and Will helped you to keep whatever was left of her cake. “You gave me a present already.” Chloe said, like she was reminding Jay.
Jay smiled, lifting Chloe into the chair and squatting in front of her. “I know but this one’s a different kind of present.”
Jay reached for the envelope on the counter and you smiled, nodding an encouragement at your husband as Will joined you at the other side of the counter. Jay pulled a paper out, the certificate of adoption sitting in his hand, showing both his and Chloe’s names clear as day.
You’d spoken to Caleb, who’d just asked if he could still see Chloe when he was in town. You’d told him in no uncertain terms that you’d respect Chloe’s decision if she wanted to see him, to which Caleb had agreed. You couldn’t deny that you were disappointed, disappointed that from the beginning until now, the only thing Caleb had been consistent about was letting Chloe down.
So after talking, Jay and you had both agreed on how to proceed and waited for everything to be settled officially before talking to Chloe. It was just a nice coincidence that everything down to her name change had been done in time for her birthday.
“What do you think?” Jay asked and you could hear the nervous tremor in his voice that would have been missed by anyone who wasn’t close to Jay.
Chloe reached her hand out to trail the letters on the paper in front of her.
Chloe Halstead
You were pretty sure from where you were standing that Jay was unconsciously holding his breath. Then Chloe looked up, her eyes shining with undoubted happiness before a wide smile spread across her face. “Halstead?” She asked.
Jay gave her a nervous smile and Chloe grinned even wider if that was possible. “So can I call you Daddy now?”
It was Jay’s turn. His green eyes glistened with tears, as he nodded. “Anything you want sweetheart. Anything you want.”
“This is the best birthday ever!” Chloe glanced at you and you nodded back at her with a small smile. “Thank you Daddy.” The three words escaped her lips like a whisper before she threw her arms around Jay, nuzzling herself into his embrace as deep as she could.
Jay pulled her close into his embrace, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
Will glanced at you, giving you a one-armed hug as you swiped off the stray tear that had made its way down your cheek and you were about to move towards them when you froze.
“Y/N?” Will asked.
You glanced down as you felt it. “Will.”
Jay glanced up, just as Will reached for you. “Did your water…”
You glanced at him and back to your husband. “Yes, she’s coming. Now.”
Tumblr media
While some of your friends stayed behind to help take care of your place and handle what was left of the party guests, Jay and Will whisked you off to the hospital.
“I got her.” Will said, pulling Chloe into his arms as Jay headed into the delivery suite with you.
By the time Jay had emerged from the delivery suite, Chloe had fallen asleep in Will’s lap in the waiting room. “Healthy baby girl.” Jay announced, with a smile.
It was a while later that Jay had brought Chloe in so she could see you and her little sister, and Will had told him he’d swing by later and that the family should spend some time alone first.
“Mom!” Chloe called, running towards your bed. You smiled and gave her a hug.
“Hi sweetheart.” You called, leaning towards her a kiss as the nurse wheeled the baby in. You glanced at Chloe. “You ready?”
Chloe nodded, the anticipation almost written across her face.
You leaned forward and the nurse lifted your newborn from where she was and put her gently in your arms. You’d already held her once in the delivery suite, as had Jay, but she still took your breath away. “This is your younger sister, Sophia. Sophia Halstead.” You told Chloe, as Jay lifted her to a sitting position next to you so she could take a better look at her younger sister.
“So I’m an older sister now?” Chloe asked with a smile.
You gave a little chuckle and nodded. “Yes, you sure are.”
Chloe leaned forward, her little fingers gently touching her sister’s cheeks.
Jay leaned in, putting an arm around you as you held Sophia, Chloe pressed tightly between the both of you and pressed a kiss to your temple.
You looked up at your husband and knew then that this was it. The moment that you felt the missing pieces of your life somehow fit together perfectly and naturally, everything coming together like a perfect little picture puzzle, whole and complete.
The Halsteads.

You stepped out of Med, glancing at your watch. Jay was going to be a little late today and Kate wasn’t in any rush so you thought of stopping to get some of Chloe’s favorite snacks on your way back.
As you headed towards your car, you were stopped. “Y/N.”
You closed your eyes and exhaled, like that would help with your patience and turned back around to face Caleb.
“What do you want? I told you to call if you wanted to see Chloe, stop showing up here.” You snapped.
Caleb paused. “Can we talk?”
You crossed your arms. “I’m listening.”
Caleb shook his head. “Somewhere else, perhaps?”
You frowned. “You have five seconds to start talking or I’m leaving.”
“I need some help.” Caleb said in a low voice, looking up at you. “I need to borrow some money.”
He seriously had the gall. You couldn’t believe that this son of a bitch was standing in front of you daring to ask you for help, for money. You didn’t care about anything he was saying now about how he’d lost his job partly because of Vivian, about how an opportunity finally presented itself but he needed money for the buy-in. You actually just wanted him to stop talking so you could go home to Chloe.
“You got remarried.” Caleb paused long enough to notice you were fiddling with your wedding ring. You hadn’t realized you’d been touching it until he’d pointed it out. The ring had felt weird at first, but after the first week, it had actually been pretty comforting.
You didn’t answer him so Caleb continued. “Look, I’ll pay you back and if you lend it to me, I’ll terminate my parental rights on Chloe. You can have her.”
You felt the rage blow over you in a second. “You have got to be kidding me. What the hell are you doing Caleb? Selling your daughter? Is this what came to your mind? You might be Chloe’s biological and legal father but you are not even half the father Jay has been to her.”
You didn’t really care if your voice was traveling across the parking lot. “Do whatever you want, I’m not giving you anything. But for God’s sakes, if you don’t plan to be her father then leave us alone. Jay and I will protect Chloe.”
You stalked off to your car, still seething when you pulled up outside your house so you left the engine running, continuing to sit there while taking deep breaths, the snacks long forgotten. You were counting in your head when a rap at your car window made you jump and you looked up.
You smiled and unlocked the car as Jay got in, sliding into the passenger seat next to you. “Everything okay?” He asked.
You glanced at him. “Thought you were going to be late?”
“Apparently, I do my paperwork really quickly when I’m motivated.” Jay said with a smile, his tone slightly teasing, which at least elicited a laugh. “Now, what’s up? You only sit out here to make sure none of the negative emotions go in there.”
You recounted what had happened outside Med, while the expression on Jay’s face stiffened and you found yourself being glad that Jay hadn’t come to get you today because you wouldn’t have blamed Jay if he finally sucker punched Caleb. Jay had probably wanted to do it since the first day he’d seen him.
“He said he’d give up his parental rights if you lent him money?” Jay asked, not bothering to hide the disdainful and incredulous tone in his voice.
You glanced at Jay. “You’re imagining how it would feel like to punch him now, right?”
“You have no idea.” Jay answered, taking a deep breath as you chuckled, feeling the negative emotions dissipate slowly as you sat here with Jay.
You glanced at him and he smiled. “You ready?”
You nodded as the both of you climbed out of the car and headed inside to your daughter.
Tumblr media
You’d found a time to slowly introduce the idea of a younger sibling to Chloe. She’d shown some curiosity, and although she wasn’t thrilled, she also hadn’t shown much resistance, which was a good start at least.
Jay had taken his turn to have a little talk with her, and you’d kept her engaged along the way during the preparation. It had been Jay’s idea to bring her along for the doctor’s appointment and you could still see the look of wonder on Chloe’s face as the sound of the baby’s heartbeat filled the small appointment room.
So all in all, Chloe had been dealing with the changes pretty well, until the day you came back home to a quiet Chloe.
Jay had told you he was going to be late and not to wait up, so you’d gone straight home only to find that your normally upbeat and hyperactive daughter was way too quiet.
“Chloe, what’s wrong?” You prompted, your eyes scanning her face for even the most minute expression changes.
Chloe didn’t look up, her eyes still trained on the doll she was holding that had been a gift from Jay.
“Sweetheart?” You prompted again, getting a strong sense of dejavu from the time Caleb had dropped her off in the middle of the night after Vivian had locked her in the garden.
Chloe glanced up at you.
“Tell me what’s wrong.” You said.
Chloe bit her lip, before the words tumbled out of her mouth. “Do you still love me?”
The words tore at your heart. Maybe you were taking this too quickly for Chloe, maybe she wasn’t ready for this many changes at one go.
“Chloe, come here.” You said, sticking your hand out and motioning to her to come towards you and you pulled her into your lap, glad she was still small enough for you to do so and also glad you weren’t showing too much yet. “I will love you for your whole life. Remember what I said? No matter what. Did something happen?”
Chloe fiddled with the hem of her doll’s dress before you felt her take a breath. “Riley.”
It wasn’t the first time Chloe had brought him up. Riley Pearson was a kid in Chloe’s class who Chloe never seemed to like. As far as you knew, Riley had never directly said or did anything mean to Chloe. At least, until now.
“I only told Ashley that I was going to have a younger brother or sister.” Chloe said, almost defensively, to which you smiled and nodded at her encouragingly, to tell her in not so many words that she didn’t do anything wrong. As if bolstered by this, Chloe continued talking in a low voice. “Riley said that now you and Jay have a new baby, I’ll be forgotten.”
You reminded yourself that Chloe was talking about a boy her age as you felt a strangely familiar rage threaten to boil up to the surface. Instead, you took a deep breath.
“Chloe, look at me.” You said, your voice firm but gentle.
Chloe turned her face to look up now.
“I have never lied to you, right?” You asked her and Chloe nodded.
You hoisted her a little more comfortably into your lap. “I know there’s been a lot of change but nothing in the world could change how much I love you and how much Jay loves you.”
Chloe gave a slow nod and you smiled at her, before you pulled her up into a tight hug , Chloe gently wrapping her limbs around you. You held her against your body tightly, resting your hand firmly against the back of her head. “You will always be our baby girl.”
So when Jay came home, it was to find his two girls asleep in the bed he shared with you, Chloe snuggled into your side in the middle of the bed.
The edges of Jay’s mouth turned up into a soft smile and he moved closer, just to pull the covers up towards Chloe’s shoulders, pressing a gentle kiss against her forehead. As he pulled away, you stirred, your eyes cracking open and you smiled.
“Hey.” Your voice was low so as not to wake Chloe and was still heavy with drowsiness.
Jay smiled, leaning over and pressing a quick kiss to your lips. “I have to go back to the district. I just came back to check on you and Chloe and to grab a shower and a change of clothes.”
You nodded and Jay’s eyes flicked towards Chloe.
“Everything okay?” He asked.
You nodded. “I’ll fill you in tomorrow.”
Jay nodded. “Go back to sleep. I should be back early tomorrow, alright?”
You could sense his unwillingness to leave the house and go back to the district so you just squeezed his hand and nodded. “Go. We’re fine.”
Jay nodded, leaning down to give you another kiss. “I’m going now.”
You watched him close the door quietly before you turned towards Chloe again and drifted back off to sleep.
Tumblr media
"Do you need me to go down?” Jay spoke into the phone, pushing back from his desk and heading into the pantry, closing the door behind him.
Your tinkling laugh came from the other end of the phone. “To do what, Jay? The boy is Chloe’s age. I reminded myself that before I went to sleep yesterday.” You paused. “I’ll have a word with her teacher when I drop her off in a while. Everything okay there?”
“Yeah, if we’re lucky I’ll be home on time tonight.” Jay answered. “Maybe we should do something this weekend…” Jay’s voice trailed off as he heard the pantry door open behind him.
Kim poked her head in, keeping the door just wide enough for her head to fit through. “Jay, Sarge called. Someone’s downstairs for you.”
Jay nodded, before he redirected his attention back to you. “I gotta go. I’ll see you later.”
“Alright, be safe.” He was about to put the phone down when you spoke again. “Jay, wait.”
“Hi Jay! Will you be home tonight?” Chloe’s voice piped up on the other end of the line and Jay smiled.
“Yeah, I think so. I’ll try to make it for dinner alright?”
“Okay!” Jay smiled wider as he heard Chloe’s voice go up the way it did when she was excited, and he was glad she sounded her normal self.
“See you later sweetie.” Jay said, quickly saying bye to Chloe and to you as you took back the phone before he hung up and headed out the door and down the stairs.
Jay just caught himself wishing it wasn’t someone coming with a new case as he pushed open the gate to the first floor of the district, pausing at the top of the stairs when his eyes fell on the last person he expected to see here.
Caleb looked up, getting to his feet as he saw Jay.
Jay raised his eyebrows, glancing at Trudy who nodded towards Caleb, confirming that he was the person who had asked for Jay.
Jay didn’t say anything, jogging the rest of the way down the steps and heading towards him, an eyebrow still raised.
“Here.” Caleb handed Jay an envelope.
Jay took the envelope but glanced back up at Caleb. “Whatever Y/N told you last time still stands.” Jay clarified.
Caleb nodded. “That’s not why I’m here.” He nodded at Jay to open it.
Jay frowned but opened the envelope, pulling out a piece of paper, freezing as his eyes scanned the contents, his eyes finally flicking back up to Caleb, with a mixture of confusion and disbelief.

“Marry me.”
The words bounced around the apartment and you froze. Now, that you hadn't been expecting. And you didn’t know what to feel right about now. The sense of relief and security that came with knowing that Jay had always planned for and wanted a future with you and Chloe, or the tingle that the word ‘marry’ sent through your body half like a warning signal.
You looked up at Jay, who was sitting next to you, holding both your hands in his, as he looked back at you.
“Jay, I…” You paused.
Jay shifted just a little. “Listen, Y/N. I know maybe it sounds crazy. Trust me, I had a whole idea of how I would do it, about waiting maybe a little longer, about making a big deal out of it and taking you and making it at least twice as romantic as now. But right now, I know this is it. This is the future, our future. It’s you, Chloe and me.”
You took a deep breath.
“It took a long time for me to finally get back on my feet, to slowly put the pieces of mine and Chloe’s life back together again and I stopped believing, Jay. I stopped believing in marriage.”
You paused, as you watched Jay’s face fall, even though you knew he was struggling to keep it straight.
“But I believe in you.” You whispered.
Jay looked up again. “Is that a yes?”
Your smile was all the answer he needed. “Okay, wait. Don’t say anything.” Jay said hurriedly, letting go of your hands and pushing his chair back enough for him to slide onto one knee.
Jay pulled out a ring that he must have had with him this entire time. “Y/N, will you marry me?”
You laughed. “Yes, Jay. I’ll marry you. Probably a good idea to marry this little one’s father too.”
Jay froze. “What?”
“I’ve been freaking out about how to tell you for a week. I didn’t want things to change. I was afraid this might not be what you want, I was afraid that it would push you to move things along when you weren’t ready, I was afraid you’d ask me to marry you just because I’m pregnant.” You were talking so fast, it was like the words were coming out of your mouth in a rush. “But now I know.”
It was true. You could barely stand on your own with just Chloe but you were so afraid that Jay would make decisions based on what he should do, rather than what he truly wanted. But you should really have known better.
The smile that spread across Jay’s face was infectious as he got up, leaning over to pull you into a deep kiss, one of his arms pulling you against him, his other hand gently caressing the side of your face.
“When did you…” Jay asked as he pulled away, the happiness almost flowing out of his entire being, like a radiant light.
You smiled. “I’ll tell you. All of it.”
Tumblr media
The next hurdle was trying to explain this whole situation to Chloe.
You’d decided to take things slow so on one of those slow nights when Jay was home, you’d sat Chloe down. “Hey sweetheart, can I talk to you about something?”
Jay turned just a little from where he was in the kitchen but didn’t come out and you sat on the floor next to Chloe.
“I wanted to ask you about Jay.” You said, crossing your legs on the floor.
Chloe looked up from what she had been doing.
“What do you think if we all move in together?” You prompted gently.
Chloe frowned and you felt a momentary worry bubble up in your chest until she spoke. “Jay lives here.”
You bit your lip to stop yourself from laughing aloud. Chloe was right. Jay practically lived here, his bed back at his apartment probably hadn’t been slept in for months.
“Well, yes. But we were thinking of a more permanent place. We’d find a bigger place. If you’re okay with it.”
Chloe turned her head to look at Jay. “Forever?”
You glanced at Jay, who stepped out of the kitchen, hanging the cloth he was using over one of the chairs. “Yeah, you okay with that?” Jay asked Chloe directly, heading towards the both of you and settling himself on the floor next to her.
Chloe turned her head back to look at you. “And he won’t leave? Ever?”
You exhaled slowly. You would never forgive Caleb for doing this to Chloe.
“Never, kiddo. What do you say?”
Chloe broke into a smile. “I love you, Jay.” She announced like an answer, getting up to go give Jay a hug, the unspoken words flowing out from that simple sentence and Jay pulled an arm around her, exchanging a smile with you as you felt the sense of relief flood through you. A conviction that everything was going to be good from now on.
Tumblr media
You held off on breaking the news of the pregnancy to Chloe, figuring you’d give her time to get used to a new shift of dynamics. Although maybe she was so used to either waking up to Jay’s breakfast or going to sleep after Jay tucked her in that it just felt like the three of you fell back into a normal routine.
You’d continued the conversation in little short bits, talking to her about the fact that you and Jay were going to get married, and answered her questions. Jay had started apartment hunting which as far as you knew hadn’t been going too well until he told you that he had somewhere to take you and Chloe to that weekend.
It was a nice house, stairs leading up to a nice porch and you figured you were here to see someone although you didn’t understand the mystery. Until Jay opened the door to an empty house.
You glanced at him. “What do you think?”
“What do I… Jay, are you serious?” You asked, stepping inside to a house you’d only dreamed of.
“Not too far Chloe, and be careful.” Jay reminded, as Chloe ran in to explore, only getting a yell of ‘Okay!’ in response.
He turned back towards you and smiled. “I know this guy. So, it’s ours if we want it. I bargained for some time.”
“Can we afford this?” You asked, moving further in.
It wasn’t a huge house, but it would be a nice fit for four, at least. “Don’t get my hopes up otherwise.” You warned with a smile.
Jay smiled back. “I’ll tell him we’ll take it.”
You moved closer to Jay as he enveloped you into a one-armed hug. “Home sweet home.” Jay whispered, pressing a kiss to your temple.
Tumblr media
Between preparing for the wedding and moving into your new place, the days melded into weeks and months. Everyone was excited about the wedding and you'd kept the pregnancy as quiet as you could for a while.
But before you knew it, the day was here.
It was supposed to be a small, intimate wedding but what with Intelligence, your friends at Med, and even some of the people from Firehouse 51, it had grown to be just slightly larger than what you’d originally planned for. But it still kind of qualified as the intimate wedding you’d wanted, in a small church with only the people who knew and cared about the both of you.
“It was like a magical power that drew me to you and until this moment I can’t explain it. What I do know is this is what I want - you, me, Chloe.” Jay paused, turning to glance at your daughter sitting next to Will and smiled at her. You knew he was thinking about the little one growing in you now as well, but because you hadn’t had the talk with Chloe he kept it back.
Will lifted Chloe off the chair, nodding at her to join the two of you in the front before Jay continued, looking straight at Chloe. “I will spend the rest of my life loving, protecting and caring for my girls. Forever.”
Chloe smiled, reaching over to hug Jay and you took a deep breath, holding back the tears before you smiled back at Jay.
“I was sure the pieces of my broken heart and life were never going to be put back together again. But you took me anyway, broken pieces and all. You loved us, more than I ever thought possible and you put us back together. I’m much more me when I’m with you, and you are the reason I can feel whole again. I love you.” Your voice was low but it filled the whole church.
The minister smiled. “I now pronounce you husband and wife.”
Jay picked Chloe into his arms before he leaned over, his hand gently tracing the line of your jaw and he kissed you, sealing the promise with Chloe squashed between the two of you, her giggles mixing with the cheers that erupted from your friends.
The after party was held at Molly’s, and even while you’d been busy with everyone else coming to congratulate you and Jay, you knew you didn’t have to worry about Chloe. Between Connor and Ethan coming to give you hugs of congratulations, or even Intelligence coming over to tell you that Jay was lucky to have found you, you could hear your daughter’s tinkling laughter resound through the bar.
The whole time, Chloe would be sitting in someone’s arms, throwing her head back to admire the twinkling lights streaking across the ceiling that she was fascinated by. You smiled, sure she felt as loved in this moment as you did. Even when she turned quiet, you’d turned to see her sleeping soundly on Will’s shoulder and Will had nodded at you not to worry. Jay pulled you against him, pressing a kiss to your temple.
“I love you.” He whispered.
You entwined your fingers and smiled. “I love you.” You whispered back.

Pieces (20): New Surprises
Tumblr media
Chapter 20: New Surprises
Chapter Summary: Confronted by a new surprise, Y/N finds herself trying to find the best way to tell Jay. Meanwhile, Jay has a surprise of his own.
Word Count: 1,841
Warnings: mentions of dizzy spells, general canon-typical mentions of being unwell
A/N: I kind of came up with the idea for 20 & 21 while talking to @i-like-sparkly-things and she was screaming at me so technically this was an unplanned idea that later kind of changed some stuff so I hope you like it! And if you do, you can say thank you to Kat :D

Chicago’s weather had been unforgiving recently, the heat was relentless and every time you stepped out of Med you wanted to go right back in to the welcoming air conditioning.
It felt like the heat was very literally zapping your energy out of you, bit by bit. You felt even more tired than you did when you were up at all hours of the night when Chloe was little, but you also reminded yourself that you hadn’t been working as an ED doctor then.
You brought the cold bottle of water to your lips, feeling the cold liquid slide down your throat before you put the cap back on, putting the bottle back down onto the counter as the room swayed.
You frowned, gripping onto the edge of the table and closing your eyes. The heat must really be getting to you.
You were so focused on trying to breathe through it that you didn’t hear Will and Connor coming in although they were talking loudly and on any other day you might have thrown a line at them about them announcing their arrival.
Which is probably why they quickly picked up on the fact that you were off your game.
“Y/N?”
You didn’t open your eyes despite hearing Connor call you but you answered him. “I’m fine. It must be the heat.”
“Here.” Will and Connor guided you towards a chair and you only cracked open your eyes when you felt your body sink into the chair, guided by one of their hands.
Will was already sitting across from you. “Hey, what’s going on?”
“I’m fine.” You growled a little impatiently.
Will exchanged a look with Connor before he rolled his eyes and gave you a look.
You looked up slightly. “Fine, the room may be spinning a little.”
“Can we get you checked out, please?” Connor asked, peering down at you.
“No, I am not getting into a hospital bed. Not again. I had my first anniversary dinner date with Jay in the hospital. No, I’m not doing this again.” You said stubbornly.
“It’s been a year?” Connor asked, smiling and giving you a one armed hug.
Will glanced at Connor. “Missing the point here.”
You didn't even have the energy to remind Connor that another six months had passed since then.
Connor gave a small chuckle before he glanced at you. “Just dizziness? You feeling any other discomfort?”
You shook your head and Connor glanced at Will before he turned back to you. “Alright, compromise. We’re running tests but we’ll do it quietly and in here. No hospital beds.”
You opened your mouth to argue but caught the look on Will’s face. “Easy way or hard way, Y/N?”
You narrowed your eyes at him, pretty sure the hard way came in the form of him calling his brother. “You don’t have to tell Jay everything.”
“Easy for you to say, it’s not your ass he’s gonna kick.” Will muttered.
But you knew it was just easier to let them do what they wanted to do so you held your tongue as they fussed - Maggie was informed, they took your blood, and took your blood pressure.
Maggie practically threatened you to make sure you didn’t come out of the doctor’s lounge despite your protests that if this went on you’d get fired or all your coworkers would hate you because you kept bailing on your shifts. Maggie just rolled her eyes, pointing to Connor and Will. “These guys can’t live without you. Neither can the rest of us so it’s either here or I’ll open a treatment room for you.”
So you lay back against the couch now, looking at the ceiling. They’d brought in some snacks for you because apparently having some food was supposed to help and left with strict instructions for you to drink the bottle they’d shoved into your hand.
You wanted nothing but to go back out there to do your job but you could already see the look Maggie would give you and you knew she’d make good on her threat to put you in a hospital bed to make sure everything was alright.
The door opened and you looked up. Will had a weird look on his face, the iPad held in his hand.
“What?” You asked.
Will glanced up at you, pulling a chair and sitting facing you. “Were you ever going to tell me?”
“Tell you what? What did the test say?” You asked, reaching out for the iPad but Will held it just out of your reach, like a typical older brother.
“Will.”
Will blinked back at you before a look of dawning appeared on his face. “You don’t know.”
“Know what?” You were getting irritated. “Spit it out, Will. You’re freaking me out.”
Will just handed the iPad over to you silently.
Your eyes scanned over the test results like they were trained to do, like you did every single day, but you were frozen now.
“Do you want me to call Jay?”
You couldn’t hear Will, not really. At least, you couldn’t absorb anything he was saying right now as you stared back at the test results. Your test results.
You knew what it was telling you, the numbers made sense in a weird detached sort of way and for a minute you might have forgotten you were looking at your own chart.
“Y/N?”
You looked up now as Will’s voice broke through your consciousness.
“No, don’t. I… Don’t say anything yet, please? I’ll tell him.”
Will glanced back at you with a concerned look. “Is this a good thing, Y/N?”
You didn't answer him immediately. “I don’t know yet. I need to know for sure before I…”
Will nodded back at you. “I’ll get you an appointment. Discreetly. My lips are sealed, I promise.”
You nodded, not really back to your normal self yet. “I’ll be back to get you.” Will said, before he left the room again.
As the door swung shut after Will, you felt the noise in your brain increase as you looked back down at the iPad he’d forgotten to take with him and the word bounced around in your skull.
Pregnant.
You hadn’t planned for this. Not at all. Things had been working out well between you, Chloe and Jay. You and Jay had been seeing each other for more than a year but things were going so well and naturally that you didn’t really have the talk about what it meant for the both of you. Not in details, at least.
Jay always knew what you and Chloe needed before you opened your mouth, as if he could see it in your eyes, or hear your thoughts. You could see through Jay’s facade as well, knowing when he was trying to keep it together for Chloe which was your cue to distract her with something else. That’s how well things had worked.
Now, for the first time in a long time, you didn’t know. You didn’t know how Jay would react to this.
Tumblr media
You weren’t sure if you were more relieved or worried when the ultrasound confirmed the blood test. The dizziness you’d been experiencing had had nothing to do with the weather or temperature and more to do with the extra person you were now growing inside of you.
But it didn’t stop you from being absolutely terrified about how to tell Jay and what that would mean for all of you. So you were secretly glad that Jay had been kept busy with a case. He still made it a point to drop by your apartment, show his face to Chloe or at least leave a little snack surprise in the fridge for her but he didn’t have time to stick around for too long, so there’d been no long conversations or opportunity for Jay to figure out you weren’t telling him everything.
Even so, you knew you couldn’t put it off forever. So when Jay had finished up with the case and things seemed to settle back into the normal routine, you’d told Jay that you wanted to talk because you’d missed him. Jay didn’t seem to sense anything wrong and he’d smiled, nodded and agreed that the both of you should do a date night that night, not forgetting to add that he would bully Will into babysitting if he had to. You laughed, reminding him that Chloe had just as much fun at Will’s before he left.
You were glad you were on shift today though because it meant you didn’t really have the luxury to think about what you were going to say to Jay. Until it was time to go.
“I’ll swing by in about half an hour to get her, alright?” Will said, the question lost on you. “Y/N?”
“What?” You looked back up into Will’s concerned eyes. “Yeah, sure. Whatever’s convenient.”
Will frowned. “You okay?”
You nodded. “Yeah, I am.”
“Alright.” Will conceded even though he looked like he didn’t really believe you.
You stressed about it all the way home, even as you got Chloe ready for Will to get her and even though you smiled back at your daughter as she chattered on about her day, it was nagging you at the back of your head.
But you kept your cool through the rest of the night. Jay had come in shortly after you’d finished with the steak and potatoes, setting the plates down on the table. You’d opted for a simple dinner date but Jay had insisted on lighting the candles from the last time the both of you had had a stay-home date.
As you sank into Jay’s company, you almost forgot your original intention for having the dinner in the first place. It was like the magic of being with Jay, but as time ticked past and the both of you finished eating, you knew you couldn’t really avoid it any longer.
You were sure Jay could hear your heart beating against your chest like it was desperate to get out. Jay seemed a little nervous as well but you figured that he was probably reacting to you since you knew if Jay had been the one to say that he had something to tell you, the anxiety would eat you alive.
Jay cleared the plates off the table before he joined you back at the table and you took a deep breath. You just had to rip the band-aid off.
Rip it off, Y/N. Just do it.
You opened your mouth but Jay beat you to it, reaching for your hand from where he was sitting next to you. “My whole world changed the day I met you, Y/N.” Jay whispered.
You blinked back at him.
“I love you, and I will never ever let you go. Not for the rest of my life.” The only sound in the apartment now was your quickened breaths, as Jay leaned forward even more, taking your hands in his.
“Marry me.”

Waking up late in the morning following her drinks with McGee, so late it was virtually the afternoon, Abi’s heart somersaulted when it hit her; he’d be on Irish soil by now. He was back. Her heart continued to pound as she contemplated that fact, her thoughts all willing her to rush out of bed and go to him, but the heaviness she felt across her body paralysed her to the mattress beneath. He was returned, at last, and she couldn’t go to him.
Nerves held her fast, and she had no clue why. This was Filip, her Filip, her BDT, her love, her everything. Time might have changed a lot, but it had never negated that for her. Thinking on it more, though, as she inevitably would, lighting her first cigarette of the day as she sat up, moving to sit on the windowsill, it hit her. What if he didn’t still love her as much as she did him? What if he did have someone else? No matter what he pledged, she had to be realistic; he might just remember her fondly from their time together. She might simply be a distant memory to him, a thought that made her heart feel icy.

Strong tea, thickly sliced, fresh white bread with a liberal smothering of butter and marmalade, the feeling of the cracked flagstones beneath her feet and her dear mother, humming hymns to herself at the sink as she washed the utensils she’d used to assemble their afternoon tea. Bridie Maguire could never leave anything unwashed for longer than a minute.
Home. There was nothing like it.

She lifted her chin in defiance, her eyes, burning blue, never leaving the dark irises of the man who had foolishly dared to lowball her. “That wasn’t what we agreed, Yousef.” Her tone was biting, colder than a Siberian winter, steeped in all the quiet menace she handled herself with.
“I grow sick of fucking IRA demanding more all of the time. More, more, more!”
She sniffed, her eyebrows fluttering. “More risk attracts a higher price. You know that, you’re fighting that. Our guns are what you’re using to hold that down, are they not? Two mil was our agreement. I am not leaving without my money.”
He was resolute. “One point five.”

The Thief of your Heart - A Chibs Telford/Abi Maguire (OC) Story.
So, because I am SO EXCITED to share, and also because my lovely @vulgar-display-of-escapism is likely to hunt me down and smack me over the head with a large book until I relent, here is the first chapter of my new story, y’all! It isn’t exactly canon as you’ll see, but somewhat follows S3 of SOA. Also, I’ve embelished actual history a little, where the troubles in Northern Ireland are concerned.
The title comes from the song, You Made me the thief of your Heart, by Sinead O’Connor, which I reccomend you listen to, as it’s THEIR song. It fits them perfectly. Notes as well, you’ll see on the story banner two separate photo’s for the lead characters, The top pics are how they appear in the past, the flashbacks we will go into to see how they once were, and the bottom pics are them present day in the story.
And now, to sit here and chew my nails off in anticipation over whether you guys think it’s any good or not!

The atmosphere in the clubhouse was tense. A father broken from the snatching of his infant son, and a band of brothers determined to do whatever it took to locate the child again.
“Nah, I don’t trust anything that comes from Jimmy.”
Clay’s eyebrows twitched, rolling his cigar between his thumb and forefinger. “Right now, Chibs, that’s all we have.” He then contemplated his next words carefully, his small, blue eyes studying him from across the table, glittering through the plume of pungent smoke. “Unless you reach out to her.”
His reaction was immediate, visceral, agitated. Exactly as he presumed it would be.
“No, no fucking way.”
“If she knows whether Jimmy is lying about Abel not being in Belfast, she’ll tell you,” Clay reasoned quietly, those in the know over the woman whom he referred to all watching Chibs closely, those in the dark looking like they were missing the vital pieces in the jigsaw puzzle that was Clay’s request.

Pieces (19): Harrowing Situation
Tumblr media
Chapter 19: Harrowing Situation
Chapter Summary: With a gun now pressed to your side, Jay has to find a way to talk the perp down to keep you safe.
Word Count: 2,172

A/N: I changed this like… three times? And I chose the one that made the most sense logically and in the whole context of this, but if it doesn’t then… I’m sorry? Also, while I was writing this @halsteadlover said if I change it again she would shoot me so call it self preservation.

It was like the air in the lobby had been sucked out, no one was screaming or panicking, just standing around, frozen.
Just like you were, with nozzle of a gun against your side. It was a miracle you remembered to breathe, but maybe it had something to do with the bright green eyes that were right across from you, even though they were filled with terror.
You couldn’t remember ever seeing that look on Jay’s face before, except maybe that fuzzy memory from after the attack. Maybe, then. Or maybe it was that moment in the park when the gunshots had gone off. But it had never been like this.
Jay wasn’t supposed to feel relief, not when an emotionally unstable man was standing here with a gun that was resting against your side, demanding for Connor Rhodes, all so that he could probably kill Connor. But Jay also knew that it meant you weren’t Tyler’s target - maybe as a bargaining chip since it was obvious you and Connor were friends, but he wasn’t trying to kill you. And if anything, that was a silver lining.
Jay wrenched his eyes away from you, his gun still pointed at Tyler. “Put the gun down.”
“You put the gun down.” Tyler hissed, digging the gun further into your side and you took a sharp inhale, which made Jay hesitate.
“Now!” Tyler raised his voice and you flinched.
Jay put his arms up quickly, lowering his gun onto the floor. “Okay, okay. Let’s all calm down, alright?”
You exhaled. This was bad, so bad.
“Tyler, right?” You spoke now, not turning in case he thought you were trying to fight, or in case the gun went off. “Everyone’s just nervous because of the gun. Put down the gun, let’s talk.”
“Shut up.” Tyler hissed in your ear, and you heard a distinctive growl from Jay that you were sure wasn’t meant to be audible. “Just get Connor Rhodes over here.”
In his desperation to get to someone or maybe he'd been heading for you in the first place, but he’d totally missed Connor just standing a few feet away behind Jay.
“I’m here, Tyler. Let her go. Just… just let her go, and I’ll go with you.” Connor spoke now, stepping closer, shrugging Will’s arm off. “Whatever you want.”
“I want my wife back!” Tyler suddenly yelled and you jumped a little. “Because you thought you could decide who was more important than my wife, I lost her forever.”
He directed his glare at Connor now, who was just over Jay’s shoulder, the gun digging into your side in his agitation.
“Eyes here, Y/N. Eyes on me.” Jay called for you and your eyes snapped back towards him. Tyler was so distracted with Connor, you didn’t think he even heard Jay speaking to you. Jay was telling you it was going to be okay, that he was here, and that he was going to get you out of this.
“We came in for flu symptoms. How did she die in your hospital? You were too busy helping everyone else, instead of Laura! She was a good person!” Tyler yelled again.
If you didn’t have a gun jammed into your side, you would have felt sorry for him. But now looking back at Jay, with his gun on the floor, the frozen expression on Will’s face as his eyes darted from you to Connor, and even Connor’s expression as he moved nearer.
“Tyler, listen. You remember me, don’t you?” You whispered.
Tyler’s eyes darted towards you but he quickly looked back at Connor again.
“I explained this to you. Remember? We tried, we did. She went into sudden cardiac arrest and we tried, Tyler. We don’t sacrifice patients to save other patients.” You stressed, trying your best to talk him down, even though you were terrified.
Tyler stepped backwards, tugging you roughly along with him. “I said, shut up.”
“Tyler, don’t. Please.” You glanced up at Jay’s voice. It was different, you could tell he was really worried. “I’m not talking to you as a detective, alright?”
That caught Tyler’s attention and he turned to look at Jay now.
“Don’t hurt her. Please.” Jay glanced at you, before his eyes met Tyler’s now.
Jay had been on the job for long enough to tell the difference between a cold-blooded killer and someone who was just consumed by feelings of desperation or of loss, so Jay was trying something else.
“Tyler, listen to me. She’s my entire world, don’t do this.” Jay’s voice was soft now, it had lost the authoritative tone he’d been using just minutes ago. This was Jay. Not Detective Halstead, just Jay talking to Tyler, person to person.
Tyler faltered and you heard his voice at your ear. “He’s your boyfriend?”
You glanced up, without moving too much, before you nodded quietly and Tyler glanced back up at Jay. You knew he was wavering, the thought of Jay being in his position was making him hesitate.
“You know. You know this isn’t the way.” Jay continued, taking another step towards you. The suspense was driving you insane. You knew Tyler was regretting this, he wasn’t sure if he should continue speaking to Jay or if he should demand that he wanted Connor again.
Connor tried to step forward now but Jay shot him a look and Will pulled him backwards again.
You took a deep breath, even though Tyler’s hold on you was now almost choking. You dragged your eyes up to look at Jay even as you could feel your legs shaking. It was wearing off - your attempt at fake bravado, pretending that you were not scared even though you were terrified. It was bad enough hearing the gunshots at the park the last time, but to have a gun jammed against you?
You could feel the panic threaten to engulf you again now, until Jay closed his hand into a fist slowly, his green eyes almost boring into you.
It was a game he’d played with Chloe, like some variation of Freeze and Melt. Jay even made up gestures for her - a fist meant to freeze, opening his hands again meant she could move again, and a whole load of other gestures they made up as they went along.
Freeze.
You did. You stopped moving, just focusing on your breathing, shutting out Tyler’s continued rants directed at Connor, even though some of it made it through anyway.
“So I showed them. Every person you prioritized over Laura is dead, and that is all on you.”
Jay glanced at Connor who stepped out again now. “Tyler, no one else has to get hurt. Just let everyone else go and take me.”
“Don’t do it, Tyler. Don’t do it.” Jay said, almost like he was hoping Tyler would put the gun down. But Jay himself knew that this was only going to end one way.
“I don’t want to hurt you.” Tyler directed his words at Jay now. “Don’t protect him.”
Jay shook his head. “You know I can’t do that, Tyler. You don’t have to do this.”
“Yes. I do.” Tyler’s voice held a note of finality.
Jay released his fist, splaying his fingers out once again and pressed his palm downwards slowly, which only meant one thing.
Down.
Tyler lifted his gun, pointed straight past Jay and at Connor and you threw yourself down towards the ground, past caring if you hurt yourself while doing so, feeling your body crash onto the floor.
Jay reached down for his gun just as a shot resounded through the hall and Jay spun his head around, while keeping his head low. Hailey stood just a few feet behind him, her gun raised and Tyler was now on the ground, the blood seeping out from where Hailey's bullet had made contact with his shoulder.
“Stay down!” You heard Jay’s voice, before you realized he was talking to you, so you kept your head down, not moving, until you felt Jay’s fingers on your shoulder. “Y/N.”
Your body shook now, involuntarily as he helped you up. You didn’t realize you were shaking until Jay put his hands over yours as you sat in the middle of the lobby, biting your lip as you fought to keep your composure.
“Y/N, it’s okay.” Jay whispered. “It’s just us.”
Kevin and Adam had joined Hailey right after, followed by the rest of the team, allowing Jay to go right to you. “Let it out, baby. I’m here.” Jay whispered.
That’s when it hit you. Chloe wasn’t here.
So unlike any other time when you didn’t want to let Chloe see you fall apart, you let it out, just like Jay said, the shaking overtaking your body as Jay pulled you into the safety of his arms and you sobbed, even though you didn’t want to cry. “You’re okay. I got you. I got you. You’re safe now, I’m sorry.”
Jay didn’t let you go until you finally pulled away, turning your face up to him. “Connor? Will?”
Jay glanced behind him. “They’re okay. No one got hurt. Hailey got Tyler in the shoulder but he'll live.”
You exhaled, a sigh of relief, as Jay used a thumb to wipe off the residual tears that stained your cheeks. “Come on, let’s get you up. We should still get you checked out.”
Your legs were still shaking and Jay just looped a steady arm around your waist, pressing you tightly against him, and you knew he’d stay that way for the rest of your lives if he could.
Tumblr media
You’d only had a few bruises but Goodwin had called in a replacement doctor for you anyway and sent you home with Jay once you’d been checked out. Connor and Will had flitted around you for the whole time, with stupid guilty expressions, even though you’d repeated again that it wasn’t anyone’s fault.
You’d assured Jay you were fine, but even Voight had come in to ask Jay to take you home, and to stay there. Hailey would do the report and if there was anything that Hailey hadn’t already gotten from Jay, he could fill it in the next day.
So Jay brought you home and treated you like a sick person, which you were half annoyed by but also half enjoying. Then he went to get Chloe from school and the both of them proclaimed movie night the moment they walked in.
Jay let Chloe pick out the movie so as the colors and music danced across the television screen from a Disney movie, you curled into Jay’s side. Chloe sat at attention between the sofa and the coffee table until she got distracted and insisted on crawling into the space between you and Jay.
You happily obliged, your head now resting on the top of Chloe’s head, yours and Jay’s entwined fingers resting on Chloe’s lap. And as you lay there, you could feel the warmth wash over you, a huge contrast to the fear and unease that had threatened to drown you just a few hours ago.
Almost like he could hear your thoughts, Jay glanced over at you above Chloe’s head, giving you a small smile as his fingers gently tightened around yours and you smiled back at him.
By the time the credits rolled, Chloe had fallen asleep in Jay’s lap and you’d drifted off to sleep next to her as well, your head resting on your folded arm against the back of the sofa. Jay smiled, getting up slowly to lift Chloe into his arms and taking her to bed.
When he came back out, he paused for a minute, watching you sleep, your eyeballs moving just a little behind your closed eyelids like you were having a dream. Jay let his eyes linger on you a while longer, wondering if he should wake you or if he should just try to carry you in. But as his fingers grazed your skin, your eyes snapped open.
“Shh, it’s okay.” Jay whispered, looking concerned. “You okay?”
You took a breath before you nodded. “Yeah.”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” Jay said, his voice low.
You shook your head, before you put your hand in his and let him lead you back the way to your bedroom. “You’re staying, right?”
“Where else would I go?" Jay answered with a teasing smile, leaving your door just slightly ajar the way you always left it so you could keep an ear out for Chloe. He climbed into bed after you, tucking his arm under your head so that you could lie against him, especially tonight.
“You know you’re safe right?” Jay whispered into the dark now as you curled yourself closer against him.
You nodded, while turning towards him. “Thank you, Jay.”
Jay just pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “Sleep, babe. I love you.” He whispered.
“Love you too.” You mumbled, falling asleep to the gentle thump of Jay’s heartbeat.

Jay ducked under the police tape, heading towards where Hailey and Kim were standing, his eyes falling on the body lying on the hardwood floors.
“It’s him.” Kim said, her voice coming out through her gritted teeth. “This is the third one.”
There’d been very little forensic evidence on the scene, and there’d been no overlap so far on the previous two victims they’d found, other than the exact MO. They didn’t go to the same grocery store, or the same gyms and Intelligence hadn’t been able to find anything overlapping on the days leading up to their murder either.
Jay was getting pissed off, it felt like they were always a step behind, which made the murders even more confusing because it also felt like this perp was out of control. These didn’t feel planned, the scenes were always a little haphazard, there wasn’t a lot of forensic countermeasures, but it wasn’t like it was needed since it was practically an execution.
The victims had all been shot in their homes. The first victim’s looked more out of control, she’d been shot probably the moment she opened the door. But by the time it came to the second victim, it looked more planned, like the victim had invited the perp in.
“Jay.” He looked up at his sergeant's voice. “Go home. We’ll pick this up in the morning.”
Jay didn’t respond and Voight gave him a look. “Fresh mind, fresh eyes tomorrow.”
Jay knew Voight was right. It felt like there was just one missing piece, and he couldn’t shake the feeling that once he got it that they’d be able to solve this damn case.
“Go.” Voight said and Jay closed the file, getting up to leave.
Jay had thought about just going back to his apartment to crash. After all, he’d probably have to leave early in the morning, but he did want to check in on the both of you so he made the turn towards your apartment anyway.
It wasn’t like you and Jay had made any sort of agreement or talked about living together, but Jay definitely spent more time at your place with you and Chloe, than he did at his own apartment.
Jay opened the door quietly, the light from the living room filtering out towards the darker hallway. Jay wasn’t surprised since sometimes you left the hall light on, for him when he came over late, or even for Chloe in case she crawled out of bed in the middle of the night.
Jay quietly put down his things at the entrance, frowning when he noticed the television was on. The volume was so soft, barely audible, he could just as easily have missed it. He stepped further into the apartment, his eyes now falling on you, where you’d fallen asleep on the couch. You were curled up, one arm propped up under your head, with your eyes closed as you breathed evenly.
Jay smiled to himself, squatting next to you, reaching out a hand to stroke your cheek softly.
Your eyes peeked open as you stirred. “Jay.” You sat up.
“Why didn’t you go to bed?”
You smiled. “Must have dozed off. Wasn’t sure if you were coming over tonight. Have you eaten?”
Jay didn’t answer, just watching you with a small smile on his face.
“We still have some pasta. Chloe wanted to keep some for you.” You said, climbing up from the couch.
Jay shook his head. “It’s okay, I was gonna go back to my place to crash but I wanted to check in on the both of you.” He shrugged. “I was going to just crash on the couch, honestly.”
Your eyes lingered on him and you reached out for his hand, squeezing. “You still have to eat. I’ll be quick.”
Jay knew there wasn’t a point in arguing so he just nodded quietly, watching you enter the kitchen before he sank onto the couch.
You were quick, heating up the pasta in a bowl and handing it over to him, climbing back onto the couch next to him. You didn’t say anything while he ate, just rested a hand on him to let him know you were there. Jay reached over to put the bowl down on the small coffee table in front of him before he turned to look at you.
“Thanks, Y/N. I…”
“Tough case?” You asked, unable to ignore the look in his green eyes when he looked back at you.
Jay just gave you a small smile. “Voight made me go home.”
You smiled at the word ‘home’, considering he’d come here instead.
You leaned up and pressed a kiss on his cheek. “Go freshen up and crash in bed. I’ll clean up.”
“I have to get up early anyway, I’ll just crash out here.”
You gave him a look. “You’re here, don’t you dare make me sleep alone.”
You knew by the look in Jay’s eye that he’d stop arguing and so you smiled. “Go.”
Jay pressed a kiss to your temple. “Thank you.”
Tumblr media
Jay groaned as his phone rang and he reached over for it.
“We got a fourth body.” Hailey’s voice came from the other end of the line.
“Damn it. I’ll be right there.” Jay answered, hanging up.
You stirred from next to him, opening your eyes and turning your face up to look at him.
“Sorry, go back to sleep.” Jay whispered. “I gotta go, okay? Sorry.”
You just smiled, motioning to him to come nearer and Jay leaned in to give you a quick kiss. “Be careful.” You whispered, as his lips barely lifted from yours.
“You know it.” He answered, smiling at you before he headed out, not forgetting to look in on Chloe before he left for the district.
Tumblr media
“Jay, I think I got it.”
Jay looked up at his partner, pushing back from his desk and heading around to Hailey’s.
Hailey pointed, “They were all at Med on the same day.”
Jay frowned. “What?”
“I dug deeper. We missed it because the first victim didn’t register. I called Med, they said she came in, Dr Rhodes gave her medical attention when she passed out in front of Med but declined further medical attention and left. She was never keyed into the system.”
Jay paused. “Connor Rhodes?”
Hailey nodded. “Yeah, why?”
“Damn it.” Jay muttered, diving for his phone and making a call. “Y/N, can you check something for me? I don’t need any personal details.”
Jay rattled off the names of the victims to you over the phone, and there was only one conclusion. They’d all gone into Med, and they’d all been seen by Dr Connor Rhodes.
Jay went straight to Voight’s office. “Sarge, we found the link. Dr Connor Rhodes.”
Voight glanced up at Jay.
“Connor saw all of them on the same day, and the first victim was someone he attended to right outside Med, no registration. They only remembered because she’d passed out and there was a big commotion but when she came to, she declined to be seen and left. This could be linked.”
Voight nodded slowly, thinking. He’d already been aware of the notes that Connor had received, and they’d been trying to investigate it simultaneously, but with nothing else to go on, it was proving difficult. If this was linked to their murders though, that was a different thing altogether.
“You and Hailey, go down to Med, talk to him.” Voight said. “I’ll see if we can get a warrant.”
Jay nodded, grabbing his coat, signaling to Hailey, as they headed straight for Med.
Tumblr media
Jay and Hailey had gone through a whole list of patients that day, looking for anyone with signs of aggression, but even after talking with everyone else, they had a steaming pile of nothing. There’d been no one in particular that stood out as aggressive, or even threatening.
“Alright, wait.” Hailey said, speaking up from where she’d been standing in the corner, thinking. “Let’s go back.”
Jay glanced at Hailey, as if to remind her that if this guy was keeping up with his pattern, someone else was going to die again.
Hailey nodded at Jay before she looked at Connor. “Not someone aggressive. Let’s just look at any that you lost that day. The patients that didn’t make it. It doesn’t matter if you weren’t the attending doctor, even if you spent two minutes at their bedside. Everyone who you lost that day.”
Connor pulled out patient files from the list he had, and now there were only four files left, for each person he lost on that day a few months ago. Connor went through each case in his head, each patient that he’d lost, before he pulled out a file and handed it to Jay.
“I think I got it. Just one.”
Jay opened the file as Connor spoke. “Laura Wood came in presenting with light symptoms. She suddenly took an unexpected turn for the worse. Everyone else was mostly touch-and-go. Laura’s husband didn’t show any signs of aggression but like Hailey said…”
There was a pause, broken only by the silence of Hailey’s phone ringing.
“Hails, I ran the names you gave me. Laura Wood’s husband, Tyler Wood, has a cousin working in Med. Admissions.” Kevin’s voice crackled over her phone and Hailey glanced up at Jay, nodding.
Jay nodded towards Connor, “We’ll take it from here. We’ll come get you if we need anything else.”
They had a name.
Jay and Hailey had headed straight for Sharon Goodwin, who’d told them in no uncertain terms that Med was fully prepared to cooperate, and that she was already aware of the situation. With that, Jay and Hailey set to work. If Laura’s husband, Tyler, was actually the person they were looking for, there was either someone else on his list, or he was coming for Connor.
And they needed to figure it out so they would know what to do.
Jay was staring at the screen, watching the camera showing the front of the treatment room Laura Wood had been in, while Hailey was next to him, busy tracking Connor’s movements through the ED at the same time. Jay watched Tyler Wood and based on the comparisons with what Hailey was looking at, it did look like Tyler Wood’s eyes followed Connor’s movements through the ED any time that he wasn’t at his wife’s bedside.
But the most decisive moment was when Connor moved back into the view of the camera in front of the treatment room and you entered as well. Jay watched as you spoke to Connor, Tyler’s eyes flicking up to glance at you. Jay couldn’t wait, he forwarded the tape, ignoring the looks from Hailey.
Jay glanced at the time stamp on the image, glancing back at Connor’s notes to make sure he’d found what he was looking for. His green eyes followed the moving images on the screen, Connor coming out from the treatment room to talk to Tyler, followed by your exit of the treatment room, but Tyler’s eyes were no longer on Connor, even though it was clear Connor was still speaking.
Jay finally looked back at Hailey.
“It’s down to the both of them, we gotta go.”
Jay practically rammed his way back into the ED.
“Maggie, where’s Y/N? And Connor?” Jay asked, just as he reached the nurses’ station, his head still swiveling around the ED.
Maggie glanced up. “Connor went to get coffee with your brother. And you just missed Y/N, she went to go get them.”
“Hailey, the coffee place in the hospital. I’m going down to check on them, get the rest on Wood’s tail.” Jay said, barely remembering to thank Maggie before he dashed off.
Tumblr media
You were a little distracted, not even walking out of the elevator immediately when the metal doors opened, only looking up when you heard the doors closing again. Your hand shot out towards the open button before you walked out, your eyes spotting Will and Connor already waiting for the coffees at the other end of the counter.
Jay had been here for a good part of the day, which wasn’t a good sign, because it meant he and Hailey weren’t able to narrow down to a suspect yet. And it was starting to worry you, because you knew that look in Jay’s eyes - that worried look that he couldn’t shake, which meant it was serious, which probably meant the threat to Connor was real.
Jay reached the lobby almost the same time as you, as he dashed down the stairs. If Wood kept up his pattern, he’d be here today, because there was no other possible person he could be after. It was either you or Connor. And no way was Jay going to let that happen.
He exhaled as he saw you cross the lobby, heading for Will and Connor and he stepped towards you, pausing when his eyes flicked behind you.
Striding through the lobby behind you was Tyler Wood, the gun he was holding casually by his side glinting from the sunlight that was streaming through the huge glass windows that adorned the lobby of Chicago Med.
“Y/N!” Jay yelled, but he knew he was too late, even as he pulled his gun out and heard Hailey come running from behind him.
You looked up in alarm, when you heard Jay’s voice. That wasn’t the usual tone of Jay’s voice, which only meant…
The thought lay unfinished in your head as you felt an arm loop around your front and yank you backwards roughly. Like instinct, you tried to squirm out of his grasp until you felt it, cold and hard against your side - the tip of a gun.
Your eyes flicked up towards Jay, and you could see Will and Connor frozen just a distance behind.
The voice that reached your ears was cold and practically lifeless.
“I want to see Connor Rhodes.”
