Arnold Schönberg - Gurrelieder: Vorspiel • “Simon Rattle” with the “Berliner Philharmoniker” [Duration 6:50] | As you will realize after hearing only the first few notes, this piece was written before Schönberg’s atonal phase and the result is incredible! Even more interesting is the enormous ensemble, consisting of approximately 150 instrumentalists (10 Horns, 2 Contrabassoons etc.) and 200 vocalists. If you ever get the possibility to see this piece live, DO IT! (It is extremely rare that the Gurrelieder are performed, simply because of the effort it takes to organize everything)
