Mother Nature

Traveling a lot, I was able to appreciate God’s creation which is our Mother Nature. By planting a tree it’s like a way of giving back to them. I could say that the world needs a lot of trees to be planted so that during typhoon, there will no victims at all since it can protect to hold the water from rising. If there will be absence of many trees, anytime the tragic event might possibly happen again. As I reflect with this activity, I guess as early as now we need to make simple moves to take care of the environment and a simple tree planting could do. Because as I observed, people will only start an action when they have already faced or experienced a certain problem but we all know that we have many things to do to help the environment, and the only thing that the environment needs is the little effort coming from our hearts and this precisely can change the world. Anyhow, as an individual for me the true meaning of this tree planting when based to real life situation is that, “We plant seeds because we have a purpose, and that purpose was to sustain a good harvest that each and everyone could benefit.”

Depression Kills

Depression is a mainstream problem in today's society and is often a major contributing factor that leads to suicide. It’s alarming that there is a growing number of people mostly teenagers that are engaging in alcoholism, drug problems, pregnancy, eating disorders, and suicide. The common link to all of these crises is often depression. The path into adolescence is a difficult one, and the choices teenager makes can leave lasting scars on the lives of an entire generation of young men and women. There is a growing realization that teenage depression can be life changing, even life threatening.

Depression can be described in so many ways. It could be periods of sadness, loneliness, negative feelings and hopelessness. Teenagers have always been vulnerable to depression for a variety of reasons. It's a confusing stage of life because they are torn between striving for independence from family and still trying to be a child and depend on it. But today's teens face an additional challenge: They're growing up in a world quite different from that of their parent's youth. Young adults today are faced with stresses that were unknown to previous generations and are dealing with them in an often self destructive way.

Speaking from my own experience.. Let’s bear in mind that suicide is not the answer to our problems and we should always think positive.. Because there’s always a way out and a lot of people loves us dearly. We have to fight against the demons inside our heads and don’t let them win. Always know that we will get through this.

Dark Skinned

My skin is as dark as my childhood years, I always get bullied because of my dark skin color.. people most especially children would make fun of me.. calling me names such as NEGRA, ITOM, ANINO, AETA or even ADOPTED since I’m the only one in our family who has a dark complexion. I get insecure whenever I see models posting and showing off their white skin on social media. Sometimes, I keep on comparing myself to them.

Having a dark skin is not that easy.. You always feel like you’re not pretty and good enough for the society. A kind of society where black beauties are under valued. While scrolling on twitter, I’ve come through an article which talks about #GandangMorenx wherein “Morena” girls are being empowered. And it made me believe that I could be an agent of change. By empowering women and standing up for justice and equality in every facet of life and society, Women with dark skin should be proud to be the best they can be.

Dark skinned beauty should be primarily promoted and highly valued, because dark skinned natives & modern morena women should love their skin instead of being attacked by ads promoting whiteness. Dark skin is not a badge of shame rather it is a way of recoginizing and accepting our differences since we are uniquely created by God.

Waiting for the Right One 👰🏻🤵🏻

As little girls most of us have some hope or dream of finding our very own Prince Charming like what we used to see on fairy tales, and as we grow up it feels like we're always looking for the right one who would fit our standards and is brave enough to take the risk and will love us unconditionally..

But nowadays, dating is very cliché.. there are a lot of Dating Sites you can find online such as Tinder and Omegle. You name it.. Out of my curiousity, I tried signing up on these sites. At first Tinder was just a fun experiment. We considered it as a game to play with my girl friends bragging being a potential fling with a cute boy. As I had also just gotten out of a significant relationship, there was the added benefit of boosting my newly single ego. I quickly realized, however, that Tinder had the potential to serve another purpose: I could use it to play out my insecurities about men.

My teenage years had been fraught with unrequited love, and my only serious relationship had left me feeling increasingly small. Tinder therefore also provided a safe space in which I could play out the experiences that had previously left me feeling insecure, powerless, and manipulated. The woman who, as a teenager, didn’t know how to say no or when to speak up for her own desires was now sticking her toe in the waters of self-assuredness. I found myself saying no to people I didn’t want to spend time with. I did my best to present my true self, and highlighted the elements of myself I was most proud of. I was surprised to find that my confidence and frankness was frequently rewarded with interest, and when it wasn’t, I was able to walk away. It was a revolutionary experience.

That being said, I was hardly a maneater. I still cried after unsatisfying dates, and worried when boys took hours to text me back. I still longed for a meaningful connection with another human. But I was teaching myself to recognize each date as a learning experience, and more importantly an exercise in self-love. I could feel myself getting bigger in my own life, and it felt empowering to take ownership over my own self-worth.

However, after months of swiping, of becoming proficient in the art of witty banter and suggestive puns. I found myself struggling to articulate what wasn’t working for me. Sure, I hadn’t secured myself a committed partner, but that wasn’t what was bothering me. I had never been particularly hopeful that Tinder would procure such an individual. The reality was I had reached the point where I was no longer learning anything new about myself, and once Tinder’s utility was stripped away, there was nothing left but superficiality.

To be honest, It is more of a challenge for a woman to hang out and just have a good time, Women tend to become emotionally and physically attached to a man after she has had sex with him. It's hard to accept someone as a temporary companion with our love goggles on so to speak. And frankly, it's not as romantic.

I asked my mom “How do you know if that person is the right one?” and she answered.. “There’s no such thing as the right one, instead you work on yourself to be THAT RIGHT ONE.” and I guess that made sense.

If you finally find that partner whom you’re comfortable with.. then pray to God that it will work out. Allow yourselves to grow as an individual and as a couple. But if you still haven’t found the one.. I guess it’s time to love yourself more, endure being independent and strive to be better.. so that you’ll be prepared when that person arrives.

We departed on friday night from DVO-MNL and We stayed there for a night.. There’s a lot of cheap hotels and condominium in MNL. Just try to search in AIRBNB, AGODA, TRAVELOKA.

Saturday morning we went to the airport.. go to the airport 2 hours ahead to avoid mishaps because sometimes there are sudden change of flights without further notice from the airlines.

When you arrive at the HKG airport first thing to do is:

> Take a picture (let’s not be hypocrite)

> Prepare yourself for the IMMIGRATION interview

> Exchange money (Bring US dollars instead of Peso, it’s easier for them to convert)

> Buy an octopus card (can be used on trains, convenience store when buying foods)

> Buy sim card

> Ride a bus outside going to the hotel (route are stated outside the airport)

> Use credit card for faster transactions *Platinum or Gold* inform the bank ahead of time regarding international transactions

For the hotel:

>If you want affordable rooms but tiny space. I suggest DELTA HOSTEL, CHUNGKING MANSIONS, TSIM SHA TSUI. The attendant is Filipina.

>If you want classy and costly try: SHAMROCK HOTEL, NATHAN ROAD.

> If you want first class try HARBOUR HOTEL the view is definitely worth it.

But don’t expect too much since the cost of living in HK is very expensive.

What to remember:

They don’t have rice, rice is very rare and hard to find (except in Jollibee)

Always ride the train don’t ride taxi

Stores and Botiques are everywhere

Most of them speak cantonese (always do the sign language)

Try their ice cream it’s very tasty

Cheap shoes and sales everywhere

Shopping capital of the World

Food is very pricey
