Korean Webtoon Recommendations
Hey guys, I wanted to make another recommendation post for those looking for more Korean language resources. Some of these may be good for beginners but I think many intermediate learners will find these more useful. Anyways, here are some webtoons you can find on Naver Webtoon:
독립일기 This webtoon is about the trials and tribulations of the narrator trying to live on their own for the first time since graduating from college. A humorous commentary on trying to be a functioning adult– I think many of us can relate. It’s also useful to learn everyday vocabulary required to live on one’s own
드로잉 레시피 A quiet commentary on life and loss, Eunsoo travels to her late mother’s hideaway in the countryside and begins to reflect on her and her mother’s lives. Sketch-like drawings of gardens and flowers make reading pleasant and entertaining and dialogue is uncomplicated.
판타지 여동생! High schooler Eungjung begins to feel left out by her peers who all are crazy for video games. Her older brother gives her the latest MMORPG for her birthday, and on a bet, she sets out to master the game. Fun fantasy characters and video game vocab keep reading exciting.
범이올시다! One day, young Bangshil brings home a baby tiger. His grandmother forbids him from keeping it but somehow, the tiger keeps managing to find his way back into their home. While the dialogue is fairly basic, this webtoon is set in the Joseon era, so readers should be aware that some vocab and grammar is not current, but fun to learn.
정년이 Another period piece, this webtoon is set in 1956. This story is about Jeongnyeon, a young woman with nothing to her name but a singing voice. She dreams of making it big as a theater actor in Seoul. It begins in Mokpo, so those interested in Jeollanam satoori will enjoy, but for those not used to it, it can make understanding a bit more confusing. I also personally really love the artwork of this webtoon.
유미의 세포들 I have recommended this webtoon before, and I do so again, because it remains a great one. As Yumi navigates life, the audience gets a special look inside her brain at the hardworking cells that control her emotions and decisions. Dialogue is fairly uncomplicated so beginners may also find enjoyment here.
백수세끼 Lastly, 백수세끼, a fun play on words (can you guess what it is?) recalls the story of one couple’s relationship, as it starts and ends, through food. Where did it go wrong, what changed? Accompanied by delicious illustrations of food, natural conversations of young adults unfold.
I hope this was helpful! What are your favorite webtoons? Let me know!

Term abroad in South Korea - Part 2 🇰🇷
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starbucks in the Coex mall. Gangnam, Seoul, Korea. Feb 2020
Being all alone in Seoul I also started going around alone. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be :) Travelling/taking a trip alone lets you spend time with yourself; you walk/look in your own pace; you go wherever you want to without having to discuss it with someone else first. Of course it’s also fun to travel with friends or family but I think it’s almost a life accomplishment to find fun in spending time with oneself and travelling alone. So these pictures were taken at Starbucks in a popular mall in Gangnam. It is super huge so you can get lost easily, which I did a few times - but I wasn’t in a hurry so I just walked and walked and walked and looked and looked and looked and just enjoyed (as you can see I’m fond of malls - I was born in Bangkok and it’s a mall city so...). The drink I ordered is called 허니자몽블랙티 (Honey Grapefruit Black Tea) which I fell in love with T^T I normally don’t drink anything that contains caffeine but this tea was so good and I am so sad we don’t have it here in Germany. So for about a week I went around alone in Seoul, exploring a bit by myself. But of course I couldn’t stay alone in Seoul forever - you can learn many things by yourself and grow as a person, but there are also things you learn while being with others - and for me as an introvert that’s kind of necessary. I didn’t want to just stay inside my own little world anymore. I was ready to go on a adventure of self-development :) Stay tuned for my next posts ~

Term abroad in South Korea - Part 1 🇰🇷
Tumblr media
A place I miss: Sinchon, Seoul, South Korea. Picture taken during the spring term in 2020
Sinchon was the area I lived in while I had my term aborad. The Goshiwon (small one room) I lived in was only in 5 min. walking distance from the main entrance of the Yonsei University. I arrived at the end of February, one day before the news reported that the corona virus had spread rapidly from Daegu through the whole country. My parents called and asked if I wanted to go back to Germany - of course I said no. It took hours for me to arrive in Seoul and I tried to only get straight As at my home university in order to get picked for the term abroad - yearly only 7 people are picked from about 200~300 people (even though I admittedly don't know how many applied). So nope I wasn't going back. But thanks to corona virus the term abroad was pushed back a few weeks so I didn't have anything to do and no one there I knew. I was really really lonely and didn't know how I should make friends as an introvert in a country where it wasn't even common to just talk to strangers (if strangers came to talk to you they're most likely trying to get you into a religious sect - and there are so many different ones in SK). I wasn't really sure if I was going to have a good time in SK as I have hoped. And just because I didn't want to return back to Germany didn't mean that I wasn't homesick. I missed my family so much because I'm especially close to my mom and my sister.
How I made friends and what else I did in SK besides taking online courses when the term began and how the HelloTalk app helped me with a few things (not sponsored) you can read in my next posts.
If you have any questions or anything you're curios about - feel free to ask me 😊💙

First/Introduction Post
I decided to make a Tumblr account, but I can’t say that I’m 100% Studyblr so I didn’t want to define my Tumblr as such but I will probably post a lot of study content. I might post my old travel photos whenever I’m feeling the wanderlust, since I can’t go anywhere right now due to COVID-19.
And now if you want to get to know me/be friends/follow me on Tumblr or if you’re just curious about this Tumblr newbie:
- Name: you can call me Sorang
- Age: I think age doesn’t really matter for this but my birthday is on the 23rd of December
- Countries: born in Thailand, grew up and currently living in Germany.
I visited South Korea twice (I was in Seoul this year for a term abroad - at the Yonsei University).
A country I have never been to but always wanted to visit is Australia, since my parents used to live there for many years and always told me stories about what they have experienced there (they love it there) since I was young.
- Hobbies: singing, making music, dancing, reading, drawing, travelling, fashion, baking, eating good food
- languages: German (fluent), Thai (fluent), English (fluent), Korean (advanced), French (beginner), Chinese (beginner - only speaking), Japanese (barely)
____________________________________________❤
Other things about me: - I am majoring in Empirical linguistic (Korean) and my minor is Music Studies
- I do music production, singing and songwriting (only as a hobby right now) in my free time; I especially love writing lyrics (have written lyrics in English and Korean; want to try Thai next) -> hit me up if you want to do a collaboration for fun; fav music to produce (right now - it changes from time to time): lo-fi jazz, lo-fi hip hop, pop, jazz pop
- I love dancing (I’m not good at it though) - but the dance styles that I find most intriguing to learn is hip hop especially popping and contemporary/lyrical jazz
- My parents are both half Chinese but they both can’t speak the language :(
- Sorang is my mother’s Chinese name (Teochew Chinese - not Mandarin) and I liked it so much that I made it my artist name
