A new uniform

A sort of continuation to this. Fem Genya had a costume change before the events of Sword smith Village arc but during the Mugen Train. When she bumped into Tanjiro to get to her check-up, he was concerned about her clothing. (just kept walking and ignored him, not showing her face was red.)

Genya had gotten himself injured on a mission. It was a negligible slip up, and Genya was able to regenerate. But when Sanemi had caught wind of this, he hadn’t reacted well.

Shinobu took it upon herself to calm the wind hashira down. It wasn’t an easy task, with Sanemi yelling and whipping chairs against the floor.

“I’m going to fucking kill that idiot! He isn’t strong enough to he a part of the corps, I’m going to break his fucking arms. Over and over, until that bastard leaves!”

Sanemi was scared. He was terrified of the prospect of losing his little brother. Why hadn’t he fought harder to kick Genya out? He could have tied him up and dropped him off at the nearest village and be done with it, couldn’t he?

Shinobu soon agreed to give the man some space, and left him with some tea and ohagi on a table. Sanemi continued swearing and punching the hardwood floors until he heard the sliding doors open. He whipped his head towards the offender and saw his little brother.

Sanemi had him by his collar within the second, pushing him against the wall.

“What the fuck were you thinking?”

The hard grip he had on Genya reassured him a bit- he was here, he was alive. He was warm. That was good.

He remembers holding his siblings’ cold bodies- he remembers his mother, and squeezes his eyes shut.

“I can’t… fucking lose you too, alright?”

“I’m sorry, Nemi. I’m okay, really.”

“Not the fucking point!”

Sanemi’s vision blurred with hot tears so he loosened his grip, pushing Genya to the ground. Genya frowned, quickly getting back up and shifting closer to his older brother. He wanted to wipe away Sanemi’s tears, but felt scared. He hesitated for a few moments before reaching his hand out, his hands gently caressing Sanemi’s wet cheek. Sanemi’s eyes shot towards his younger brother, shocked that he’d do that. Sanemi wasn’t sure how to feel- should he be mad? Should he push Genya away like he always had, in hopes of protecting him?

Sanemi bitterly wanted to laugh at himself. If pushing Genya away with his violence would’ve worked, he’d be long gone by now. Obviously Genya was here to stay, and Sanemi vaguely felt relieved. He didn’t trust many of the people here- Master Ubuyashiki and Iguro being the only real exceptions. But his brother, he loved deeply. He wanted nothing more than to care for him.

Genya’s hands were soft, so soft. Sanemi forgot what softness felt like, so accustomed to his calloused palms, rough grip, hardened body. Genya wasn’t like that, not yet. He was still so young. Sanemi knew that Genya’s body was littered in scars, just the same as him. But they felt out of place on Genya, too harsh on his pale skin.

Sanemi had bit his lip as he got lost in thought, and didn’t realize it was bleeding until he heard Genya gasp.

“Aniki, your lip..”

Sanemi blinked.

“It’s nothing.”

Genya’s brows furrowed as he gave his brother a nervous smile.

“You worry so much about me, but never yourself. Can’t we focus on you for a change, Nemi? Here, come sit…”

Genya took his hand and guided them both into sitting positions, Nemi scowling as he took a seat. Genya grabbed the ohagi from the table and held it up to his brother’s mouth.

“Say ‘ah’?” Genya tried.

“Not a cha-“ Sanemi’s words were cut off by a piece of his favorite snack being fed to him. It was really nice, though he had the feeling he’d kill anyone else had they tried that. Sanemi slowly chewed, letting the room fall into a comfortable silence.

Genya noticed how he loosened up, and started to smile. He continued giving Sanemi the pieces of the dessert, stroking his free hand through his messy white hair.

“…’M sorry. I just worry about you, Gen. You’re the only one I got left, and I…”

“I know, Nemi. I’m not going anywhere. I’m safe, and we’re here together.”

Sanemi was exhausted from his outburst, his puffy eyes soon fluttering closed. He leaned his head on Genya’s shoulder, and Genya stiffened up. He didn’t want to disturb him. He continued to stroke Sanemi’s hair, and craned his neck to plant a kiss on his older brother’s forehead. He whispered softly, his affection obvious in his voice.

“I love you, aniki.”
