Watercolor painting just for fun. No idea what this is. It started as a heart but then I just kept adding bizarre details to it.

You guys all know me as a medical illustrator, but I also teach Anatomy, Illustration, and Project Research at two different colleges in Chicago. In addition, I've recently been teaching a series of Anatomical Figure Drawing workshops at the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts. Each workshop focuses closely on a different area of the body, so you can pick and choose the areas you enjoy drawing most-- or those in which you need the most work! The next workshop focuses on the bony and muscular landmarks of THE BACK, and it takes place on March 23. Click through my flyer image here to register!

Motor branches of the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V.) Adobe Illustrator. This shows a lateral view of the left side of the mandible and the muscles in the area  these branches innervate. This was for an anatomy and physiology book. One of my favorite parts of the project was illustrating the twelve cranial nerves and their branches. It was a good review!

This is a spot illustration I did for a magazine for teen girls awhile back. It was done with both Illustrator and Photoshop. This wonderful publisher used to give me a spot to do almost every month! But then they started using mostly stock images. I miss the old days.

Simple illustration of a neural synapse for an anatomy and physiology textbook. I made vector shapes for the neurons and then rendered them further with paint tools. The arrows and labels were created in Illustrator and then composited with the art.
