It was 13 or 14 years ago. From what I remember you just shouldered aside the mastodons, went into the Tumblr cave and carved your mark on the wall, telling people you were now signed up for tumblr, and then they would haul memes on animal hides past you. Back then it was mostly cats doing amusing things, obviously, but we would watch them by the flickering firelight, and chortle to ourselves hopefully before leaving the cave and trudging back to our lives.

PSA: Don't use Open Office

I keep seeing people recommending Open Office as an alternative to Word, and uh... look, it is, technically, an open source alternative to Word. And it can do a lot of what Word can, genuinely! But it is also an abandoned project that hasn't been updated in nine years, and there's an active fork of it which is still receiving updates, and that fork is called LibreOffice, and it's fantastic.

Seriously, if you think that your choices are either "grit your teeth and pay Microsoft for a subscription" or "support free software but have a kind of subpar office suite experience", I guarantee that it's because you're working with outdated information, or outdated software. Most people I know who have used the latest version of LibreOffice prefer it to Word. I even know a handful of people who prefer it to Scrivener.

Open Office was the original project, and so it has the most name recognition, and as far as I can tell, that's really the only reason people are still recommending it. It's kind of like if people were saying "hey, the iPhone 14 isn't your only smart phone option!" but then were only ever recommending the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an alternative. LibreOffice is literally a version of the same exact program as Open Office that's just newer and better – please don't get locked into using a worse tool just because the updated version of the program has a different name!

So if you guys haven't heard, I have gone back to school in order to obtain a bachelor's degree. My school requires that I study abroad for the degree and so I have to study abroad to obtain my degree. I have been accepted into a summer program to attend a Japanese language school for intensive Japanese study this summer.

I have gotten scholarships to fund the actual program but I will be in Japan for a little over a month and will have to pay for all my own food and daily necessities and with the current savings I have, the budget might get a little tight. If any of you are able to donate even a bit it will be a huge help to me obtaining my degree.

Also, if you want me to translate anything for you or buy you any merch that is hard to get, let me know! We can work something out!

Yeah cousins isn't going to stop any Japanese shipper. You're crazy if you think that's going to stop them.

I don't think it was actually intended from the start 30 years ago. Kaito Kid came out first. Gosho Aoyama wrote it in 1988 and didn't start Detective Conan until 1994. They didn't cross over at all until 1999/2000 when they made the first movie with Kaito and Kaito appeared in volume 16 of the manga. Kaito appeared in a couple of movies in the years after this, but they weren't based on the manga so their connectivity to the main plot is dubious at best.

So I think it's a connection he decided to make later... though I could be wrong... maybe he really did decide to make a 30 year slow burn for this series (I don't even think he thought Detective Conan would last this long). There were minor connections over the years between the two stories. It was heavily implied that Kaito's dad was killed by the same people who made Shinichi into Conan (also he probably faked his death but that's a different issue lol). MUCH later in the series we got references that Kaito's dad was the one who taught Shinichi's mom to disguise herself and Shinichi's dad was the one who came up with the Kaitou Kid name.... so there were plenty of hints there was a connection there after a while.

Besides the fact that that people comment that Kaito and Shinichi look so similar that they can pass for each other ever since his first appearance in Detective Conan.
