Summary:
Colt was aware of a few methods that the GAR held in its back pocket—a few cruel and creative ways of ramming the Alphas where it hurt the most. Desk jockey assignment caused a large amount of chafing. Stationing too many of them at the same command smarted even more.
THIS IS THE LAST TIME I TRY TO SHARE THIS LINK TONIGHT!
please click through to AO3 to read the credits as I don’t have the energy to re-write everything. Again. Prompt fill for @ct-1994 post that I can’t resurrect and bla bla.
These were color studies, working in limited palettes that worked with each commando’s color schemes.
I’m still completely obsessed with that game. Republic Commando is the best and all I want is a sequel as amazing as the first. So EA better not touch it.
“Sometimes a wild god comes to the table.
He is awkward and does not know the ways
Of porcelain, of fork and mustard and silver.
His voice makes vinegar from wine
And brings the dead to life. “ - Tom Hirons
How coincidental that I’ve just been thinking about alpha non stop for the past couple of days lol.
I feel like Alpha doesn’t get enough appreciation. He was the original Rex. For anyone who doesn’t know Alpha, he was one of the only clones to be hand trained by Jango Fett himself. A special kind of ARC Trooper who had more freedom in terms of opinions and following orders. The only reason he was renamed Rex in canon is because Filoni felt like there were already too many named beginning with A (Anakin, Ahsoka, Artoo, Asajj)
It’s a crime this man wasn’t in TCW
Here are some of my favourite Alpha moments
words cannot express my undying love for this clone
Currently yelling about how the ranking system in the GAR doesn’t make any sense. How was Alpha-17–one of the first ARCS and a decorated war hero—only a CAPTAIN. (He was put in charge of training the army’s most elite COMMANDERS??) I’m sure this issue has been explored at length by others but it’s still frustrating me, and therefore worth mentioning yet again.
Getting into the weeds piecing together the history of Rancor Battalion. So many accounts of the creation of the Alphas, who they were, where they were, who trained the ARCs, and what exactly happened during the battle(s) of Kamino, that it’s impossible to find a reliable source that’s completely cohesive. For instance, since Alpha was never included in the Clone Wars show, parts of his history were given to Colt with the effect of the two characters having a conflated backstory.
I’ve taken up audio notes in an attempt to organize a narrative around this time period, and I realized I could probably start a podcast. Just me talking at length about obscure Clone Wars military lore.
imagine being the guy who discovered microorganisms trying to explain to people that you promise there are millions of little secret guys on everything
this is an absolutely horrible post that makes no sense but last night i told my roommate that trying to take the lord of the rings, the silmarillion, and the hobbit and explain the tonal and narrative difference and what it all means as a series is like if you only had three sources about what happens in england (a made up place, as we all know) and they were geoffrey of monmouth’s ‘the history of the kings of britain’, modern doctor who, and a singular episode of peppa pig. and you’re out here trying to force these to be part of a cohesive narrative
