90-Second Recap of Boruto Chapter 9 From My Phone Because My Clingy Dog Has Me Pinned to The Couch

Toupee Man says he detects Kurama’s chakra inside Himawari. Team 10 points out that this makes no logical sense. Toupee Man admits he’s as confused as they are, but he doesn’t really care if he eats a Kage or a child so long as he gets that chakra.

He tries to eat Himawari, but Team Ten saves her. Chocho becomes the first and only person in Konoha who has landed a hit on Jura.

Meanwhile, Kashin Koji tells Boruto that break time is over, and he has to go save Konoha again.

Once Boruto arrives, Kawaki wakes up from a dead sleep and tries to fight him. Boruto knocks him on his ass, then basically says “While you were partying, I studied the blade.” Then he runs off to save his sister.

Himawari asks Inojin and his Eagle Uber to drop her off alone outside the village so no one gets hurt on her account. The team tries to lecture her about the value of a functional self-preservation instinct.

Himawari has a spiritual awakening mid-conversation and meets Baby Kurama. The fandom proceeds to lose their minds.

I like how Jura spends a third of the chapter lampshading how random it is that Kurama’s chakra is inside Himawari. He’s just like, “Whelp, this is awkward, but I guess I have to kill a preteen girl now. Eating her is the only way I can tell what the hell is going on.”

Look say what you will about Himawari having Kurama but I'm literally seeing some BS and I need to rant.

I keep seeing people say Himawari should've had more to do with the Hyuga Clan and I'm sorry but I gotta disagree

Just fucking LOOK at what Kishi did to the 2 most prominent Hyugas!

One was killed off in the shittiest way and the other got nothing beyond being the MC's wife in the Boruto era

The man had TWO chances to make a Hyuga be relevant and prevail but he somehow managed to drop the ball on BOTH of them and completely destroyed BOTH of their potential

Why in the fuck would I want that kind of fate to befall on Himawari? 

At least with Kurama, that can almost guarantee Hima remaining at least somewhat relevant to the story (since Kishimoto adores Kurama)

On the other hand, Kishi straight up does not appear care about the Hyuga clan in the slightest and its evident by the fact that he initially forgot to give Hinata's OWN CHILDREN the Byakugan 

Call Kurama an asspull all you want but let's not pretend that Hima would've been any better off with Hyugas ESPECIALLY not Hiashi lmfao

Cause Kishi was never gonna explore the Hyugas, even if Himawari's hidden power had turned out to be anything else

It is a damn waste he never explored the Hyuuga clan in Boruto, considering they’re the Otsutsukis’ descendants. Even without the alien connection, it would have made sense to at least acknowledge Himawari’s heritage. Choosing your own path is a huge theme in this series, and showing Himawari’s or Boruto’s attitudes toward their Byakugan (or lack thereof) was SUCH low-hanging fruit.

But at least Himawari and Kurama can be each others’ plot armor.

I know the entire world is talking about Himawari right now (valid) but can we talk about how freaking BADASS Team 10 were in this chapter!?

After years of being ridiculed, mocked, and being called "Fodder" by the Fandom they managed to turned EVERYONE’S heads!!!

They got intel, analyzed the situation, and actually stuck to their word of protecting Himawari from Jura.

Chocho Friggin CHOCHO of all characters actually managed to get a hit in on Jura which is something that not even BORUTO OR KAWAKI have been shown to do yet

They are FINALLY giving the Side Characters their rightful justice and I AM HERE FOR IT!!! 🙌

Yes, Team Ten were definitely the stars of this chapter. I’m so glad Chocho got that hit in. And it’s great Jura acknowledged the tactical importance of nonverbal teamwork.

Plus I just love their big sibling dynamic with Himawari.

I would like to add some things from the Speaker of the Dead series that show OSC was never normal about relationships and gender.

The all-male Piggie aliens try to give their beloved human ambassador their cultural rite of passage that turns him into their version of an adult man. This means disemboweling him without anesthetic.

Ender has a computer AI that acts as his platonic wife. She says something sassy to him, and Ender turns his communicator off for a few hours to sulk. During that time, the AI’s hyper-quick mind goes crazy from isolation and boredom. So when Ender turns the communicator back on, his AI refuses to talk to him. Essentially the protagonist ruins his longest and healthiest relationship by selfishly taking time to himself for a nap.

One of Ender’s stepdaughters finds a way to save the female Piggie aliens from being cannibalized by feeding the male larvae fake meat or somesuch. Ender then screams at her for interfering with alien culture, since if females were supposed to survive past childbirth they would have evolved differently.

There is a passage from one of the Ender’s Game sequels that lives rent free in my mind every time I enter a public restroom of like… Bean thinking very hard about which stall to select because appropriately masculine men never select the first stall, if you take the last stall you’re trying too hard, but you can’t take a stall next to a stall next to one that’s already occupied…

Welp. It turns out Himawari isn't the only person who needs protection from haters

People are being absolutely abhorrently homophobic towards poor Mitsuki because he talks to Eida about love and apparently he says he loves Kawaki (Boruto)?

Though some are saying it's a mistranslation, even if it is, that STILL doesn't give people the excuse to be disgusting and be angry at even the POSSIBILITY that a male character in a Shonen could be Gay or anything other than Straight.

I'm utterly disgusted by the way people have been acting towards this chapter. The Homophobia AND Misogyny really jumped out. Nice to see the Fandom showing it's true colors 🙄

I don't know why anybody is surprised by Mitsuki's confession. He's spent the entire manga claiming Boruto is his sole purpose for existing and calling him the Sun to his Moon. He's said his goal is to spend the rest of his life by Boruto's side.

The anime even has Mitsuki tell his team not to assume someone's straight. (I don't remember the arc, just the line "He could also love a boy, you know.") The only way this boy could get more queer-coded would be if he started wearing a rainbow flag pin.

Homophobes are just mad that they got their plausible deniability taken away. Just because someone doesn't like the BoruMitsu ship doesn't mean they have to be hateful.

I saw someone saying Himawari is "Selfish and aggressive"?

I'm very confused by this because while I can understand being critical of Hinata, I cannot think of a single thing Himawari has done that can be considered "Selfish"?

I saw them point out how Hima "sulked and acted like a crybaby over her father missing her birthday"

Like are you serious??? Of course she's gonna be upset that her own father missed her birthday? She's was just a little child 🙄

As for the aggressive part I'm assuming they meant when she knocked Naruto out, it was literally a gag moment that only happened ONCE in the series and Hima has never displayed anger like that again. (It's also MASSIVELY hypocritical considering the MAJORITY of women on the Narutoverse are shown to be pretty aggressive)

Like while, I like Hinata myself, I can at least understand some of the irritation towards her but Himawari? That little girl does not deserve any of the unfair hate she gets (and her hate has only risen with the newest chapter reveal)

Yeah, this isn't surprising. The more page time a character has, the more hate they get from members of the fandom, simply because nobody wastes time hating NPC #25 when they could hate a unique character instead.

Himawari's come a long way from her cute little sister role in the Chuunin Exam arc. Now she had Plot Relevant status, AND she potentially has the same powerset as the protagonist of the original manga. So I'm expecting a lot more posts criticizing her every word and action from now on.

We need to ask ourselves one VERY important question

How do you think Naruto and Hinata would react to finding out that their Daughter has Bijuu Chakra (or maybe even Kurama himself)? 🤔

While I doubt he'd be angry, given everything Naruto went through, I also really doubt he'd be exactly thrilled to know that his own Daughter is going to risk the burden of being hunted down by enemies for the same reason he was hunted down by the Akatsuki

And to make matters even worse, Naruto would probably believe this to be technically HIS fault for passing this onto Hima 😭

I've got a new theory that this is technically Kawaki's fault.

So according to original Naruto manga, the Tailed Beast chakra is always in circulation - even if you kill a Tailed Beast, eventually their chakra will reform and the will reappear in the world.

At the end of the manga, Naruto was carrying all of the Tailed Beasts' chakra and acting like a psychic chatroom for them. But when Kawaki caged Naruto in the other dimension, it's possible that the Tailed Beasts' chakra couldn't transport dimensions along with Naruto. So all that chakra needed another host, and Himawari was the best genetic match.

As for how Naruto would react...I think he'd feel bittersweet. On one hand, his daughter now has a massive target on her back. But on the other hand, Himawari was probably going to be targeted anyway due to being his daughter, and at least she has some remnant of the Bijuu's power to fight with. That's as good of plot armor as any.

Well I'm not gonna spoil anything but goodness a certain spoiler from the new Boruto Chapter has completely split the fandom in half (and we're still no even sure of the full context)

For better or worse all eyes are on poor Himawari now.... (including Jura's)

If it’s real, my guess is it happened the day Naruto became Hokage. That’s the only time in the manga canon that Himawari would have had ‘contact’.
