Severance is about rebellion, about people who were literally created to obey finally questioning and breaking through that conditioning. There’s a storyline about someone doing a complete 180 and choosing to rebel when they realise they have a child that they’re not allowed to see, and I love that the storyline wasn’t given to the female lead, but to a previously comic male character. There’s a storyline about breaking protocol because for the first time ever you have fallen in love, in intense, overwhelming, impossible love, and I love that the storyline wasn’t given to the female lead, but to a pair of awkward old guys. The storyline about grief and guilt also goes to a guy, to the male lead.

I love that the female lead is the only one whose radicalisation comes entirely from within, the person motivating her is her, she’s not doing it for anyone else, she wants her freedom, and failing that, she wants bloody revenge even at the cost of utter self-destruction.

Hey I’m not over that tiny 10 second subplot in severance that had a woman undergo severance just so she wouldn’t have to feel the pain of childbirth. The thought of a woman existing with no idea of who she is or where she is just to give birth and then never see the child again and essentially die until this woman has another kid is like. The most terrible horror story I can comprehend

thinking about severance and the core self and the unchangeable nature. thinking about how masterful it is that innies and outies never feel like different people. how mark is self destructive to the core in that he will shred the map of the office or tear up the photograph of his wife, but in both instances he does it out of pettiness and a sense of masochism. how both his innie and his outie instinctively know right from wrong and are battling his own shitty choices. how both helly’s are fighters until the bitter end. how they will stop at nothing to achieve their goal, how their strength and resolve are absolutely equal but in exact opposite directions. how both irvings are lovers and artists and find beauty in everything, even in what is supposed to be a sterile liminal space where self expression is limited to the extreme. how both dylans are protectors, ready to go to incredible lengths for their respective families. idk man just. you can take memories away from a person and start with a ‘clean’ slate, but you can’t take away their very core. their spirit. and that’s kinda neat, innit
