It probably shouldn’t have come as a surprise to Kaidan that Shepard was the type to enjoy risky hobbies. After all, she routinely charged ahead in battle with little more than a shotgun and a biotic barrier between herself and the enemy. 

Yet here he was, heart in his throat as he watched her scale a sheer granite wall with absolutely nothing between her and the rocky, unforgiving ground 10 meters down. It was a mystery to him how she even managed to find her way up that high. There seemed to be zero visible handholds or footholds, but she’d managed to climb up it with unnerving ease.

“You sure you don't want to join me, Alenko?” she called down, pausing in her ascent to look down at him. “The view up here is pretty spectacular.”

“I don't know, the view from down here is pretty good, too,” he responded, looking up at her, or at the part of her that was the most visible to him on the ground. He caught a glimpse of her answering grin. Bold of him, he knew, to comment so brazenly on his commanding officer’s ass. And while that particular view was genuinely arresting, it was hard to focus on it while simultaneously trying to calculate the size of the mass effect field he’d need to generate to catch her if she fell.

Aedan stared at her and swallowed. "Don't worry about it. Happens when I'm..." she flicked through her options and went with- "Stressed." When Lawson looked back up, Aedan shrugged. "Look at it this way. Reasonable sign that I'm actually me."

WIP Wednesday

The main fic-in-progress is draining me a bit this week, so have an older WIP featuring Xiomara being a terrible influence as per usual!

“It’s a bad idea,” Kaidan says, and from across the room, Shepard smiles.

He knows that face; the one she makes when she takes a normal, matter-of-fact statement and turns it into a challenge. Things like, The food is really hot, or that hill has a dangerous slope, or Ambassador Udina looks happy. “Because this shore leave is meant for errands,” he adds immediately. He knows where this will lead them, so it’s good to get the facts laid out before she starts trying to persuade him. Before he starts letting her.

“Pressly can handle the staffing.” As she speaks, she closes the door of her cabin behind her. Does not bother being subtle about locking it.

He meets her gaze and begins shaking his head slowly. Xiomara, no.

She takes a step towards him. Xiomara, yes.

Tonight's writing has gotten sidetracked by trying to figure out if sounds played through a subdermal bone conduction transmitter would distort underwater.
