I decided I didn't like the posing/proportions on the original file so I tweaked it a bit. :v

Still chugging along at that new reference... for all my "I don't draw humans" mentality, I sure am putting a lot of effort into this reference for my one human OC. The one OC I'm arguably the most self-conscious about bc when I post content it gets anywhere from little engagement to loss of followers. :D Oh well I'm doing this for me and nobody else!

So to sort of be able to go "I'm technically done with the important part!" I've thrown an incredibly simplified ref together while the actual giant reference sheet is still under construction.

Sleep Token provides one hell of a fun vibe to draw to. I could not decide between an open-mouthed and closed-mouth look so I just went with both.

Fun fact: Wick technically does not need to breathe through their mouth, the openings on their sides and back are spiracles that they can and do breathe through. Hence the smoke coming from both locations.

Felt like doing a glowy, ghostly Wick in a forest setting, like they've just been happened upon by a random observer. Wick doesn't have any sort of canonical reason for why they have such a variable appearance other than "this would look cool". They're my monstersona and I get to do whatever I want. :V

I like to think this version of Wick is not a malicious entity, but I can't imagine looking at whatever black hole effect is going on with their eyes is good for your vision. It's probably like looking at the sun for too long but in reverse.

leave it to me to plan out a piece and then get lost as hell in the rendering of a singular dimension of the piece that was supposed to be blurred to begin with

eh I'll probably just blur the tall grass in the foreground.

I can just imagine how nuts I'll go when I actually get to the rendering of the subject and then the background aspects.

If you don’t mind sharing, I'd love to hear some fun facts about Videre & headcanons about her and Genji's relationship :)

uhhhh let's see what I have in my google doc of nonsense...

idiots. they both have known each other since Blackwatch and it took them until post-recall to actually officially pursue a relationship beyond besties-that-might-also-be-into-each-other, all because they respectively did not feel Good Enough for the other.

they take turns maintaining their respective cybernetics that they cannot reach on their own. it's very calming for both of them.

jumping from that, there were a few times early on when Videre thought she had genuinely broken a piece of Genji when it was just a detachable piece, he hammed it up to make it seem more serious than it was. In the moment it was terrifying for her, imagining all the repercussions of breaking him, but in hindsight it's hilarious.

Genji is a huge tease and Videre often mock-strikes at him when he gets too bold. You can tell she's not actually mad because of her own laughing or other such amused body language. She's pretty reserved normally so seeing such a reaction out of her is enough incentive for Genji to do it.

air jail is something Genji has to deal with when he gets too out-of-hand. That, or if Videre is fed up she'll literally walk up the wall and sit on the ceiling where she can't be reached. Gravity manipulation has its perks.

speaking of teasing, Videre and Genji have an asexual relationship, as Videre is asexual - not a problem for Genji as in my headcanon he doesn't have the parts or libido anymore after becoming a cyborg. Some of the teasing involves "bedroom" comments that to others might seem to have lewd connotations, but they are quite literally just about sleeping in or cuddling in bed.

they aren't big on PDA, but the way they both are so comfortable being in such close proximity in public and engaging in casual contact (brushing past each other with a hand on the other's shoulder/waist/etc, leaning against the other, etc.) that it's clear to others how close they are without the need for overt affectionate displays.

Videre likes to cook and experiment with recipes a lot. Genji is always eager to "help", though to Videre he isn't much help as he has trouble offering any real critique and is notorious for sneaking bites before anything's actually done.

between Genji being a parkour expert and Videre being able to fly/manipulate gravity, the two of them have the ability to get into locations that would be impossible for anyone else to get to. They have a lot of "just them" places they can go hang out if they need to get away.

Videre actually met Genji's spirit dragon before she knew that it was his. She nicknamed him "Wasabi", after the green color, and since then the dragon has been partial to being called that. Wasabi will check in on her independently of Genji at times, such as when one of them is away on a mission. It's unclear how exactly he manages to go such distances.

I have more but uhhh I'm shy and they're very specific to my interests. :V

thought I got away with not getting sick after holiday traveling (stupid acid reflux flare-ups aside)

woke up at like 2 AM with the worst burning throat I've had in years, and it's still present despite taking cold meds. raw burning sensation in throat and upper chest, no actual cough but all the discomfort, light-headed, everything feels hot…. tried to scribble something to represent it w/ Wick

I feel like I should be able to breathe fire or something and bc we just went over this new attendance policy at work and I am on call tomorrow I have to at least try to show up and can't just call off like I normally might :) :) :)

Art summary for the year. Lots of reference sheets and zora.

As usual, I experienced the most production in the late spring/summer, and the least moving into the holiday part of the year. I nearly didn't do anything in August (post-Art Fight burnout) and only did some vague thumbnails last month. Nov-Feb are usually my worst art months, and you'd think I'd feel less bad about since I notice it's a regular pattern, but nope.

Hey look I finished that sketch! It's... well, it's acceptable, I don't feel like I can mess with it much more. I tried throwing some sea foliage in there to make it feel less "empty", but it directly contradicted the "empty ocean depths" feel that was in the original doodle.

Ponzu's reflective eyes flashing in the deep.
