i know it feels difficult.

it’s not pleasant to kill your flesh and take up your cross. it’s not easy. you’re going to feel bruised. it’s going to hurt. it’s going to cost you.

but it is so, so, so worth it to count it all as loss for the sake of Christ–the ultimate treasure. He is more precious than anything on earth.

i know it feels difficult. sometimes it can feel so slow, like you’re not going anywhere.

trust in His grace. pore over every word in the Scriptures. be with a community of believers. be in prayer. turn from worthless things!

put one foot in front of the other. walk. crawl.

you are not on your own.

He has set you apart before the foundations of the world, planned out your salvation from beginning to the end. you are covered in His righteousness. you are blessed. and His Spirit whom He has sealed you with is working in you moment-by-moment, enabling you to do His will, until the day comes where you will be free from sin completely and be with Him in all His glory.

let this be your peace. Christ is greater than your sin and the work He began in you He will finish; not because you are strong, but because He is able, and He is faithful.

King Edmund the Just: Narnian Aesthetics

After the battle, he has a crown and a kingdom, but he is not a king. He is a child with a sword and an aching heart (because he knows what he is: a traitor, only alive because a lion took his place).

He is too many things for a boy of his years—a brother, a fighter, a soldier, a traitor, a king (he recognizes his life is no longer his own). He now bears the burden of knowledge—the heavy understanding that he was saved for a purpose (to fulfill a prophecy, to guide a country…to support his siblings for as long as he lives, for it is they he betrayed most of all).

It is a long process—this kingship. It is years of practicing and training and learning over and over again. It is days of bruised limbs and heavy swords; it is nights of tired eyes and worn parchment. But he does it.

He teaches himself Narnian laws and writes new ones; he leads armies into battle and becomes his brother’s steady right hand. He allows justice and mercy to soothe his soul, and he learns to carry his crown with a calm and balanced grace.

King Edmund the Just, his subjects say. It is the title he earns through years of toil and exhaustion and devotion and joy, through the painful remembrance of his betrayal and the awful awareness of the power of mercy.

in october (aka reformation month), fridays are five solae fridays ;) today’s sola is ‘sola gratia’, or ‘grace alone’! • sola gratia; grace alone for by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. -ephesians 2:8-9 ‘the reformers understood the importance of the grace of God to the Bible’s teaching on salvation.
