You know it's actually scary that Las Plagas evolved a complete immunity to their most detrimental hazard ( sunlight / UV ) over the course of 458 years. The only other animal in existence who achieved such an evolutionary feat was Tuatara, the sole survivor of a lineage that is as old as the first dinosaurs. BUT, the evolutionary feat was 1.56 sequence changes per base every MILLION years.

Las Plagas is also intelligent enough to sense & avoid impending carpet bombings, hibernating for generations DEEP underground & only resurfacing when suitable hosts come by ( which is virtually any living organism ). They can also persist as microorganisms & infest natural water, which is more or less impossible to treat on a wide scale, especially in remote / impoverished areas. More so remote / impoverished areas that are affected by warfare & dangerous for humanitarian aid. ( Both Valdelobos & Kijuju fall into this classification. )

It's genuinely frightening how far the parasites have come in the era of 2012-2013 & it's not addressed at all in any of the later installments post 2016? It's very disappointing how Capcom completely dropped the ball on something so ridiculously infectious. The only cure is surgical removal at this point, that's VERY VERY bad!

Can you imagine the image of hospitals being completely overwhelmed with patients needing emergency & high risk surgery to remove a parasite from their chest cavity? If not sterilization tents being set up outside for institutions that ran out of rooms to occupy? The amount of victims that end up with permanent nerve damage or paralysis from said surgery ( Ex: Buddy from Damnation ). I CAN! Medication has to be used within a few HOURS to destroy an egg, otherwise it's completely inaffective! What about all of the animals that are infected that pass the parasite to other hosts that run rampant ( BIRDS BEING THE BIGGEST RISK FACTOR )? It's genuinely mind-boggling & not talked about enough!!!

This is going to be a heavy post with religious references, blasphemy & self-inflicted injuries so I'm putting it under a read-more for comfort, but I want to drabble for a second with the references:

So I've been thinking for a long time that Lord Saddler canonically bears stigmata's of their Lord ( Las Plagas ) which undoubtedly fed into his ego since he was born & why he is revered as a 'divine relic' rather than an actual breathing, living being. Osmund has no identity outside of Las Plagas because he is SEEN & literally IS the mouthpiece for it. It's hard to notice at first, but he does have scarring / punctures upon his wrists ( similarly to the nailing of Christ ) which is how ancient Prophet's used to be bound upon an altar for heresy & sacrificed. There is also his scalp being covered with scales ( & sometimes horns ) which represented demonic blasphemers & apostates in the past. Hosts of Las Plagas also practice a form of inedia where they go extreme lengths of time without consuming water or food with the exception of "The Eucharist" / Parasite sustaining them. There's no doubt in my mind he's also covered in pretty hideous scourge / self-mutilation marks hidden underneath his robes, as he practices what Los Iluminados preaches & obviously leads by example. There's also the whole "bleeding water & blood on/off" symbolism which is present upon the zealot's / militant's ( & Osmund's ) body in the form of punctures / open wounds. Need I go on?

This has been on my mind for long but I’m gonna do this - please reblog this if you’re comfortable with pre-establishing relationships. I do not mean “met at the grocery store two weeks ago” or “have a common friend”, but rather stuff like “have been best friends since kindergrden”, “go for a beer every friday”, “friends with benefits”, “dated in highschool”, “hate each other’s guts because -insert reason-”  etc. Something meaningful (but not necessarily shippy) and I mean with muns/characters you have not interacted with, because I cannot believe I am the only one who prefers jumping right into the heart of the human interaction.

hey, tumblr rpc. we're a deeply parasocial space and we need to accept that!

i've noticed an uptick in people preferring to remain insular / friend focused or indicate to not immediately express familiarity, or say that they owe their mutuals nothing. and that's true! this isn't to say that you can't make true friendships, or come to know someone fully, in the roleplay community: i'm a part of it, and i've met friends i now have known for more than ten years. but there's a difference between people having conversations that aren't just about rp (e.g., personal life, depending on each other for support on tough times as the people involved slowly open up) for extended periods of time, and having casual conversations solely about rp over 6 - 7 months and going no further than that. to some people, that may be friendship, but the reality is that you really don't know that person, and we need to do better and respect that boundary. being mutuals isn't automatic friendship. seeing what your mutuals post on the dash is only a fraction of what they are actually like, and it is their prerogative to share as much or as little as they want. unfollowing, soft or hardblocking isn't personal. you cannot press people to share about themselves when they do not wish to. when people specify "i owe nobody nothing", it refers to acting on an unearned sense of familiarity. pursuing friendship is natural! but in online spaces where activity varies and people are now mostly offline due to busy personal lives, it's imperative we remain courteous and respectful. again, this is a parasocial environment, and that's fine. do better, get to know people naturally, and don't hold boundary establishing against them.

It's hard to pick only one, but I normally choose songs that represent The Devil / Lucifer from a nuanced perspective or his victims.

I write from HIS point of view which has a degree of self-victimization. In HIS mind, he is made / born from God but unjustly punished / banished to Earth. In HIS mind, he believes the absence of free-will IS Paradise because it is best suited to serve him & that only he can "save the world" ( hence deceit / lies, as Las Plagas desires assimilation, not salvation ) . Osmund has a messiah / savior complex & is so zealous that he cannot be convinced that he is evil. The abuse / torture is justified by heresy / sin & that "teaching / punishment" is an act of penance / love. Lord Saddler is as much as a seducer / tempter as he is "Almighty", so there is a bit of dual-facet nature, it is a unique interpretation of The Devil. Songs narratively about the victims apply as Lord Saddler is known to have an intoxicating / addictive presence. Las Plagas for the majority is a drug / high because not only does it fulfill their sense of purpose or grant miraculous power, it conditions them to enjoy their perpetual state of everlasting servitude.

I've always had issues with the 2005 iteration because Lord Saddler was a remodel / recolor of Oswell Spencer from RE3.5's Castle Vers. & I want to separate myself from themes of Nazism / Eugenics as much as humanely possible. It's partially why I don't really care for the games spanning from 0 - 3 & lost interest in Sergei Vladimir / James Marcus over time.

On the topic of the English Localization again, the blatant American / Foreign xenophobia they introduced was in extremely bad taste & rooted in The War on Terror influence back in the early 2000's. I was overjoyed when this was completely removed in Vendetta & the remake because what purpose does it serve for a religion / religious preacher to be discriminatory in that way that is hellbent upon world domination with a mind-controlling parasite?

Thirdly, because I'm always at Capcom's throat, they are ( but slowly getting better ) SERIOUSLY bad with stealing ( art in general, coming from someone who studied art history ) iconography & symbolism from closed cultures / practices that suffer discrimination, racism & harmful stereotypes to this day. They are also bad with using real world events for canonical history without considering the implications it might have on the average consumer. Instead of listing individual sources, there is an entire wikia page ( I hardly trust the wikia but these sources are legitimate ) dedicated to how The War of Terror initially influenced RE4 & / or the remake. There is also Mesoamerican / Mesopotamian leftovers from early builds of 3.5 & 4 which again, carries harmful stereotypes when it's representing a sacrificial death cult & religious extremists. I would have preferred a RE4 that was delayed & completely original artistically instead of... what we got.

Final thing but his full name is absolutely stupid & it drives me up a wall CONSTANTLY.

I've always had a thing for religious horror for as long as I can remember, more than likely due to my own trauma & escape from a religious institution / community. Before I discovered Resident Evil, my first jump into horror video games was Silent Hill, which I was obsessed & identified with for a long, long time. Picking up this character allowed me to safely explore grimdark themes ( some that are present within reality ) at my own pace & in a controlled environment, which can be beneficial for trauma victims undergoing exposure. Secondly, the blasphemous Abrahamic aesthetic & overall antagonism of Lord Saddler truly represents him as THE Devil, incorporating every imaginable sin of humanity in the worst way. Michael Gough, Jose Mandril & Chris Jane truly brought the character to life in a disturbingly seductive / sexual manner.

It is in the sense that I include lore pertaining to Las Plagas / Los Iluminados from RE4 ( 2005 ), RE5 ( 2009 ), Damnation, Vendetta, & Umbrella Corps, as they take place upon the same timeline as noted by the developers. If a remake of 5 releases, I will undoubtedly alter the lore of my portrayal again. What is truly "divergent" is that I prefer the Japanese Localization over the English localization, as the western scriptwriters will occasionally shoe-horn in unsavory elements influenced by North American culture / propaganda, which I'm very uncool with. Osmund was NEVER intended to be a terrorist grifter using religion as a front & I will continue to stand by that. Michael Gough's acting is astonishing, but the scriptwriter did a disservice giving him Bond Villain stupidity when that was never the intent. Otherwise, I'm pretty compliant / in-depth with canonical lore & as my blog states, I urge my mutuals when interacting with me to do the same --- I'm not really interested in writing Osmund any other way & after giving it a shot multiple times, it's not enjoyable for me to make MASSIVE changes to his characterization.
